  • holy shit..first time listening. MIND EXPLOSION>

  • Hmm. Velvet Underground, Iggy and the Stooges, Pixies and Nirvana fan (etc) just listening to The Vaselines for the first time ever tonight. Why the hell wasn't I shown this band 10 years ago?

  • yaaaaa this song is pretty good ehh!

  • loves it

  • I see I'm not the only one here cause of Kurt

  • i've found and impact to My Bloody Valentine too........even to Kurt

  • Nirvana, Pixes, Wipers, Joy Divison, The Vaselines, old Weezer, Fugazi, Minor Threat etc. were excellent bands from the 70s to 90s. Today we have The National, The Shins, Arcade Fire, Interpol etc. - good music exists everywhere, it's just hard to find through the pop so stop complaining about WHEN you found it, just be happy you're not listening to Ke$ha and thinking that she creates "music".

  • @TokoYami200 modest mouse, built to spill, portugal the man, as tall as lions, the cat empire, sts9, and city and colour are all fucking amazing

  • Greats song, going to see them in 2 weeks

  • Jeez. Kurt covered a few of their songs AND he cited Beat Happening's "Jamboree" as one of his favorite albums of all time. Great tastes.

  • This is my favourate 2001: A Space Odessey based video on youtube.

  • so these guys stole a nirvana song? dicks

  • @fuglymidgets Is it deliberate that you are a moron?

  • @fuglymidgets Bahaha. It's their song. Ignoramus.

  • @fuglymidgets nirvana actually covered their music! if you were a nirvana fan then you would know this already!! so......... who is the dick now eh?

  • @fuglymidgets you have to be the number 1 most retarded person in the world first thing if you do the same song as someone mostly the same words same title and stuff its a cover number 2 nirvana covered the vaselines

  • Eugene and Frances make a beautiful blend of voices, much like Kevin Shields and Bilinda Butcher.

  • first song i've heard from the new Vaselines songle and I knew I'd Love it!!!!!!!!

  • hahaa, nice vid, no wonder kurt liked them

  • Good thing Kurt loved 'em so I found about this kick ass Scottish punk band. They stopped in Portland, October, 2010.

  • Going to see them at Scala tonight!

  • @RolexTharsus

Saw them in Edinburgh last Wednesday. F'in awesome!

  • This is one of my favorite Vaselines songs and matching it with 2001 was brilliant. Thank you for posting this!

  • just fell in love

  • I used to think the chorus was, "I - I- I'm hanging on!" and it used to give me so much happiness and motivation during tuff times, but it fuck'in turns out to be "i'm hanging out" (how trivial). Oh well, in my mind it's gonna be "I'm hanging on."

  • @SEXUALMONEY I dont care how good you are at the skin flute, your opinion of music sucks, Kurt Cobain's original and innovative as fuck

  • Comment removed

  • "Milk it" is not terrible. The guy who thinks nirvana is terrible is nuts.

  • @limitedwhole no i guy who thinks Nirvana is terrible isn't nuts, they just have a different opinion than you and If. Big deal.

now stop talkin about Nirvana so most of the rest of us can enjoy the Vaselines.

  • I fondly remember this song along with The Falls How i wrote elastic man.

  • @TheAth3ist yeah seriously. nirvana are the most overrated band of all time, theyre fucking terrible, and i dont really care that much if 'most of the people in the 90s' agree with you, they still sucked

  • @SEXUALMONEY your entitled to your opinion has is theAth3ist. end of argument.

  • @csamson94 THANKS, i also really dig this song

  • @SEXUALMONEY woah woah woah kid! you seriously need to have someone buy you "In Utero" and you know, get deeper into their demos because Nirvana is actually the best band and im not saying just because everyone says it but its the god damn truth. All their songs have meaningful lyrics about alienation and divorce that we can all relate too.Dumb fuck go listen to them first before saying that they're shitty.trust me

  • Music just doesn't get better than this. Faultless.

  • This band is soooooo gooood

I am only hear because they are going on tour - and I just read about it.

I am trying to get a train of people to go to the Paradise in Boston.

  • Why are 99% of these comments about kurt cobain & nirvana?

This is the vaselines NOT nirvana!

  • @0999number9 I KNOW!!!

  • oh... pathetic rock kids trying to seem more original and cooler than one another with your comments... there is going to be nirvana comments here, nirvana made this band well known. there music is great, but not everyone is going to know who the vaselines from the late 80's are...

  • @wafflepistol It's sad, but true...

Shit, half the results in here are Nirvana doing their cover of Jesus Doesn't Want Me for A Sunbeam, and Molly's Lips, and Son of A Gun. Oh well. It's not to say either of them are bad.

  • I found this band because of nirvana, but thats just me

  • i need a bag of weed

  • fucking losers talking about kurt cobain pretty fucking lame

  • @Sometimescloudy and remind me why are you so mad cuz people are talking about kurt?

  • nice song. You need a good video though!

  • @SEXUALMONEY seriously? nirvana's the best band of the 90s... Hell, the best band of all time if you ask me and most of the people in the 90s

  • @SEXUALMONEY thats fucked up.

  • rockandroll

  • Kinda sounds like Syd Barrett.

  • How can i be happy when i need more weed.....sucks ass

  • @MrTokeHard same problem here

  • this is like heaven man : ")

  • reminds me of iggy pop brilliant !

  • great

  • epic 5/5

  • nice song ?-l

  • rip elvis

  • Kurt Cobain has good taste in music

  • @r0cker1992 and so does anyone else who like this band.

  • @r0cker1992 good morning! :D

  • @r0cker1992 but he made bad music! weird!

  • @lemonsqueezermunich You better hide from all the flames man

  • @r0cker1992

    had good taste..

  • i cant wate.... there opening for mudhoney... yay

  • Awesome song! i really want to properly get into The Vaselines! x

  • Seriously. I fucking adore this song more than words can possibly describe.

  • Jesus fucking Christ.

    This is absolutely fucking incredible.

  • Gene+Frances=sweet!

  • Absolute Glaswegian genius!!!

  • Fact is most people only recognize vaselines because of nirvanas cover.

So most people are sitting in their chairs right now typing in the vaselines in their toolbar hoping to hear some other music.

Dont hate guys, both are great bands.

  • Yea, one of the great things about Kurt Cobain is that he always championed all these old bands. For me, someone who's 16 and wasn't there for Flipper and Fang and all that stuff, this is simply the most accessible way to some great music, and yea, both great bands.

  • Totally agree. Nirvana got me into great music and I will forever love them for that.

  • Jajaja so true :)

  • so great song by the vaselines and they were the first who made it

  • Stop fucking talking about Nirvana, Jesus Christ.

    This is a Vaselines song.

Nirvana is not relevant to this video.

  • you can come up on a lot of good stuff listening to covers. I never heard of Joe Jackson until I heard Got the Time performed by Anthrax, same with this killer band by way of Nirvana. And even to some degree Dylan by way of Hendrix or Jesus and Mary Chain via the Pixies.

  • @ParisianDream Kurt gave them a lot of exposure...People can and will make the connection whenever they want to. Thats how I discovered the Vaselines music.

  • @ggggggggwar yea i agree 100% so did i

  • @ggggggggwar

I discovered the Vaselines through reading about Kurt Cobain's tastes in music. I think he found something pretty swell with the Vaselines, XD.

  • @ParisianDream Nirvana.

  • @ParisianDream Some people are saying that they found this band because of Nirvana, snd I think thats a good thing. The more people who listen to The Vaselines and enjoy it, the better.

  • Comment removed

  • @ParisianDream - THANK YOU!!

  • @ParisianDream actually yes,Kurt was influenced by this band so we loyal Nirvana fans appreciate this type of music.Without this type of music,it would be boring and without Nirvana my life would be different.

  • @ParisianDream - thank you. Even that band would be annoyed by how many times people bring them up here.

  • @ParisianDream How many time am I allowed to vote a comment up?

  • @ParisianDream

How many times am I allowed to vote a comment up?

  • @ParisianDream kind of ironic that the second favorite comment is nirvana-related

  • @ParisianDream they are because they cover alot of thier songs

  • @ParisianDream now do you see how other people feel when we cant listen to old rock songs with some saying how music today sucks.i know it does but cmon everyone knows

  • SPACE ODESSY! =)

  • sblargh? hope u r kidding :s

  • This band like Nirvana so much they made Nirvana covers before Nirvana existed.

  • HAHA!!! Whoever gives that a thumbs down is a jackass with no sense of humor!

  • lmao :]

  • it's the other way around.

  • NO WAIZ

  • no they make the songs before nirvana and then nirvana covered some of the vaselines songs

  • no perros!_!

  • 2001 nice

  • they were influencial in the grunge/alternative movement but they themselves were not grunge. just like many ppl say the who were the first punk band. they are not punk but they were influencial to its early years as were the rolling stones and the kinks.

  • The Vaselines were late 80s distortion-fried psychedelic revivalists, twisted twee popsters and just bored, snarky Scottish hipsters in general. Grunge was mainly an American thing that didn't have nearly as much of a concise pop focus as the Vaselines. Listen to Psychocandy by the J&MC. Listen to this. It should be obvious that this ain't grunge

  • The Vaselines is not grunge!

  • for fucks sake they were both amazing bands, the thing is with the alternative 90s scene, all the bands are connected, so stop complaining about them sounding the same-like them all!

  • i think its pure alternative.. but not the original , (80s alternative= The Original Alternative " ; 90s Alternative= "The Decade of Alternative")

  • errm....the vaselines were from the eighties dude

  • No it i not Grunge.

  • WHO CARES??? GREAT SONG!!!

  • Some people think the rolling stones invented grundge, pretty sure your smarter than them.

  • new wave!

  • Fucking amazing song. End of!

  • screw you

  • your life sucks...

  • Just excellent.

  • Great juxtaposition.

  • Great word choice ^ AScoppa gets a 5/5 lol.

  • WHY!! are these retards talking about kurt cobain *nirvana* when this is the vaselines omg ppl fuck off!! nirvana is different to the vaselines there both great!!

  • I know! It's so annoying that now Nirvana is becoming COOL again, anything that KURT liked is now known for that sole reason. Don't get me wrong, I love Nirvana, but I'm getting sick of seeing comments about Kurt Cobain on videos for Vaselines and Pixies and whatever else he liked.

  • I found a lot of my favorite bands because the connections Nirvana had. Meat Puppets, Pixies, Vaselines, Dinosaur Jr, Mudhoney, Scratch Acid, the Melvins, Sonic Youth, etc. etc. and on and on.

But yeah comments about Nirvana on a Vaseline song that wasn't even covered by Nirvana is a tad much.

  • Yes let's refrain from such pretentiousness. Now excuse me while cue up my Phillip Glass album.

  • I didnt even listen to the song because of all you dicks arguing about bullshit.

  • Holy crap man! this guys sure know how to keep the godamn beat!!

  • senza dubbio...FORZA VASELINES !!!

  • I really like this song. This band should have never broke up.

Too bad the quality on this song is bad. It would sound so much better if they had a good producer.

  • I fucking love the Vaselines.

  • The vaselines are awesome!

  • Lovely!:)

  • excellent, tx.

  • vive les vaselines!

  • Kurdt (cobain, duh) named his daughter after this girl.

  • I thought he names her after Frances Farmers?

    Nice song

  • No, after Frances Macknee from the Vaselines ;)

  • i extremely disagree. that would go to pearl jam Nirvana way exceeds anything else

  • Pearl Jam? I see what you mean... After Ten, it was all a bit downhill. Nirvana are brilliant! Kurt Cobain definitely had the best voice in grunge, possibly in music, but each to their own I guess. Alice In Chains are good too, but not quite as good as Nirvana.

  • totally agree :D

  • I like The Vaselines, and all the Aerosmith's 70's albums (you should listen to'em, it's great albums) especially ROCKS, LIVE BOOTLEG & TOYS IN THE ATTIC. And i'm from Brazil, not America.

  • you're from America. Brazil is in South America. And please have some sense of humor. And yes the early works from aerosmiths are pretty decent.

  • Yeah, i forgot that, thanx for remember me :) i'm listening to Thelonious Monk now.

  • you know nothing about Grunge or America, so don't talk shit.

  • You aren't making any sense. What does making money have to do with Kurt Cobain liking Aerosmith and the Vaselines? And who made the rule that if you listen to the Vaselines after Nirvana you know shit about music? That's just your opinion, which you are entitled to keep, but not entitled to shove it down people's throats.

  • Capitalism!!!!!

  • See, the problem with comparing those two is that they are entirely unrelated bands. Nirvana was influenced heavily by the Cure, and the Melvins, and other dark, moody groups, while Pearl Jam, on the other hand, was influenced by The Who, the Ramones, and other aggressive, upbeat, highly dynamic bands; they're almost the complete opposite of Nirvana.

So, yeah, why should we compare opposites? It's pointless.

  • Opposites? Both bands were labeled as "Grunge" and in all other terms the two bands would be considered as in the same category, so why do you want to change everything up now?

  • Grunge was a bullshit marketing scam. both bands were different forms of alternative rock. Niether bands should be argued about during a vaselines song.

  • truth^

  • but kurt never wanted that to happen.retards started 'listening' nirvana cause they thought it was cool, that's true, but kurt cobain was someone special and so was nirvana,as a product of his brilliant mind

  • i discoverd them 5 seconds ago and they are pretty good

  • me too

  • 2001 and the Vaselines really is a great combo. Well done! :D
