Hmm. Velvet Underground, Iggy and the Stooges, Pixies and Nirvana fan (etc) just listening to The Vaselines for the first time ever tonight. Why the hell wasn't I shown this band 10 years ago?
Nirvana, Pixes, Wipers, Joy Divison, The Vaselines, old Weezer, Fugazi, Minor Threat etc. were excellent bands from the 70s to 90s. Today we have The National, The Shins, Arcade Fire, Interpol etc. - good music exists everywhere, it's just hard to find through the pop so stop complaining about WHEN you found it, just be happy you're not listening to Ke$ha and thinking that she creates "music".
@fuglymidgets you have to be the number 1 most retarded person in the world first thing if you do the same song as someone mostly the same words same title and stuff its a cover number 2 nirvana covered the vaselines
I used to think the chorus was, "I - I- I'm hanging on!" and it used to give me so much happiness and motivation during tuff times, but it fuck'in turns out to be "i'm hanging out" (how trivial). Oh well, in my mind it's gonna be "I'm hanging on."
@TheAth3ist yeah seriously. nirvana are the most overrated band of all time, theyre fucking terrible, and i dont really care that much if 'most of the people in the 90s' agree with you, they still sucked
@SEXUALMONEY woah woah woah kid! you seriously need to have someone buy you "In Utero" and you know, get deeper into their demos because Nirvana is actually the best band and im not saying just because everyone says it but its the god damn truth. All their songs have meaningful lyrics about alienation and divorce that we can all relate too.Dumb fuck go listen to them first before saying that they're shitty.trust me
oh... pathetic rock kids trying to seem more original and cooler than one another with your comments... there is going to be nirvana comments here, nirvana made this band well known. there music is great, but not everyone is going to know who the vaselines from the late 80's are...
Shit, half the results in here are Nirvana doing their cover of Jesus Doesn't Want Me for A Sunbeam, and Molly's Lips, and Son of A Gun. Oh well. It's not to say either of them are bad.
Yea, one of the great things about Kurt Cobain is that he always championed all these old bands. For me, someone who's 16 and wasn't there for Flipper and Fang and all that stuff, this is simply the most accessible way to some great music, and yea, both great bands.
you can come up on a lot of good stuff listening to covers. I never heard of Joe Jackson until I heard Got the Time performed by Anthrax, same with this killer band by way of Nirvana. And even to some degree Dylan by way of Hendrix or Jesus and Mary Chain via the Pixies.
@ParisianDream Kurt gave them a lot of exposure...People can and will make the connection whenever they want to. Thats how I discovered the Vaselines music.
@ParisianDream Some people are saying that they found this band because of Nirvana, snd I think thats a good thing. The more people who listen to The Vaselines and enjoy it, the better.
@ParisianDream actually yes,Kurt was influenced by this band so we loyal Nirvana fans appreciate this type of music.Without this type of music,it would be boring and without Nirvana my life would be different.
@ParisianDream now do you see how other people feel when we cant listen to old rock songs with some saying how music today sucks.i know it does but cmon everyone knows

Don't be so forward. What is important is the sequence of music. If after Nirvana you're listening to Vaselines then you know shit about music. If after Nirvana you're listening to Mudhoney and after Vaselines to Pastels then you have a pretty good grasp of music. I hope you get my point. Oh... and i spent couple of years in the States.
