i have a question. i draw mostly on pencil and paper and good at coloring in acrylic, copic ,colored pencil, and pen and ink but not digitally . Should i keep practicing on the Bamboo and slowly move up to the Cintiq or just go straight to it?
@bio419 It all depends on the need. If you NEED a tablet right now, then get the 12 if you can afford it, if not, wait one more year or by whatever time you can to get the 21, it's what I'm doing.
I have aserious question, can you use different drawing programs with it, or it specifically used for one program, and do you have to buy the pens sererate or does one come w/ it. Also, does it double as a monitor, or do you need a seperate monitor?
@desiraejean13 you can use the tablet for anything you can use a mouse for, but the pressure sensitivity only works in certain programs (like photoshop, painter). It comes with a basic pen (like the one in the video), but you can buy specialty pens from wacom. And it works as a monitor as well.
i was thinking of buying one of these but i dont know. I either want this or teh laptop my sequental art teacher has. Its a laptop with a swivel screen that you draw directly on.
@rockstarhinata i was misinformed. at the time that this was filmed, it was widely discussed that the rumoured Apple tablet would be a pen display, not a multitouch. Sorry to disappoint. I shouldn't even have mentioned it.
If you aren't already aware of it though, you should look into the Axiotron ModBook.
@TedBelton OK thanks cause im just a beginer and i dont need anything fancy BUT i need a tablet where i dont have to look up and the screen and and do random movements on a pad
well, you can actually but a used one derectly from wacom website. The sell displayed or test ones with discounts. Not totally cheap, but still more affordable =)
I've always wondered if this thing was completely independent with it's own processor or if it's just an extension of your system with a tablet display?
it's an "extension of your system with a tablet display". no processor you can't install on OS on it or anything. It's just like any old monitor you would plug in, only you can touch it.
FYI, its a lot different using a cintiq as compared to a pen-tablet.
Cintiq is worth getting if you are interested in creating digital art at a professional level, mainly because its a lot faster than using a pen-tablet, your workflow speed will increase GREATLY.
@pickitrm Well, check cgsbgs channel see what a real artist does with cheaper instruments, the guy in this video is a joke.Watching this video is like listening a dude play same 2 notes on a 2500 $ guitar .
@AmurgAprins ok hes awesome but ya know everyone has there own type of style like realistic drawers, cartoon drawers and others just because he draws cartoons with less detail doesnt mean hes not good *just sayin*
@pickitrm I agree with that , realistic drawing can be only an exercise of skill , there are plenty different styles to explore ,all are great ,none is the best. But my first comment was an advice for people who have no idea about drawing and plan to buy a cintiq cause it looks cool.
Who is the guy that said "every student should have 1" ??? Cuz he is right! This is totally freakin awesome! I'm only 14 and I'm already going to try to save money to buy this.
i think the wx12 is usefull when you got to be flexibel and have to use it at school or university oder what ever but if you just want to use it at home save your money and go for the 21". i talked to a car designer of mercedes and he said that the 21 is much better than the smaller one but he even prefers a normal tablet because the hand gets sweat while working on the warm screen but i still would prefer the wx21 =)
I only have a Bamboo at the moment. All i can afford is the 12wx. Do you think it would be ok, I know the 21 ux is better but i can't afford it and i'm not really professional anyway
@Totocaca76 yah i got super excited and got a pricey wacom tablet, rushed the shipping and realize OH i can't draw! i thought it came with the skills but apparently you have know how to draw lol ;>_>
@Totocaca76 WOW good for you I've been saving too and im half way to the smaller model and if i sell my crrent graphics tablet i will have enough for it but, good for you :D
@Justenxster To answer that with a bit more info, it is basically the best gadget you could get at the moment, although this one was already upgraded, so if you havent gotten one yet, there is a better version now.
@Justenxster it is at every stage of your learning, if you can afford it at your age. But if you are a newbie at drawing PLEASE NEVER FORGET ABOUT THE FEELING OF GRAPHITE OVER PAPER. No matter how big are Wacom´s efforts to bring a sort of (tool-like) experience -it´s just never gonna be the same-
You have to know that the experience with a tablet or a cintiq is a direct response of your previous relationship with traditional surfaces like paper, canvas, wood, fabric, etc .
@Justenxster nah...you dont need this..you need PENCILS and real INK on Paper skills...
All of these tools were created to simulate real drawing tools...
if you learn with simulated tools...you will never have a crasp of what you're tools are emulating...
you wil be trapped in a digital aesthetic without understanding any alternative medium.
For example...you will never understand how different texture paper creates different marls, or how paint soaks into paper and how that effects emotion
@xpez anyway there is a whole universe of techniques and mediums to learn that these tools can barely compete with. The only advantage these tools have is the convenience of the computer...
Learn real world media first , pencils, pens, ink, paint, chalk, gouache, acrylic, whatever...and then you will have authentic motivation actually manipulate these synthetic tools to achieve authentic results...instead of digital garbage!
well, it depends. i'm a pretty big person, so the 21 feels great in my hands and i can handle it pretty easily. the 12, for me at least, seems slightly more flimsy and i would probably be less likely to use it on my lap.
that being said, the 12 is certainly worth the money you pay for it. it's much more portable than the 21, but is almost useless as a second computer monitor, like the 21
i would buy the 12 for portability and the 21 for comfort and large working area
what? the Cintiqs are monitors, not computers. NONE of them save images :/ they just display like a regular monitor, and have tablet functionality. Youre thinking of a tablet PC, which arent half as good for digital painting as the Cintiqs.
if i remember correctly, for the inking and colouring i was using a 19pt 100% hard 0% spacing brush with 'shape dynamics' set to pen pressure, 'other dynamics' on, and smoothing and airbrush turned on. i think it was also set to about a 85% flow. i was switching back and for between brush and eraser of the same settings to sculpt the lines. it's sorta my basic set-up these days lol
I originally wanted the 21 although I'm afraid It might be hard to rotate because of it's weight when I place it on my lab, also that it might break easily..
The 12 has problems and is less updated, also I don't want to obtain it and want the 21 later.. although it's easier to rotate, i'm worried I will run out of space..
I'm already planning on getting a job, I just want to know which one is more comfortable..
