The thing the Bose 161s excel at is unobtrusive, inoffensive background music. These speakers would be good for a small restaurant or someplace like a bookstore where extremely powerful output is not required, but the sound should be smooth and natural and should have a wide dispersion. Admittedly, their bass is on the anemic side -- they only thump down to about 80 Hz or so, which means that adding a subwoofer will make a night and day difference.
I like Shattered Dreams Johnny Hates of 1987, I have a 161 with a JBL control now. JBL good bass sound better, the change of 161 per Acoustimass 5. 161 used for surround sound. not for stereo. subwoofer does not play, now my stereo sounds great with the JBL Control Now and Acoustimass 5. install and can be the 161 in the dining room and tell them bye
Hi,i know this is a bizarre question, but could you please tell me who is the artist playing on the first part of the demo, before Coldplay, its a great track, thanks
Just a reminder, that unless folks have a good pair of audio speakers, their not going to hear the speakers anywhere near to what you hear. So its superfluous to record speakers on You Tube. Thanks for trying.
You can get a pro system thats in another level for a cheaper price than bose. Bose is cheap and not real clean sound. You cant compare pro studio monitors to consumer junk.
Sad thing is, Bose is using the same exact drivers in these $150 speakers as in their $1,200 set of speakers. That's just a fact. Also, speaker enclosures should NEVER be made of plastic, but it saves them money. They love raping people, and lying to them. They LOVE hiding all of their real specs, they are nearly impossible to find, fact. Not trying to be a dick, but Bose is literally a waste of money. The company needs to be burned to the ground.
i have the bose 161's and they sound great. i have heard others ive spent literally days researching the speakers that would be nice for our game room. ive compared them to maney others like klipch and jbl and polk. they sound great and fill the room. most people give them bad ratings for bass. they arent made for base hence the subwoofer.
@amppeters I got my one at Audio Solutions a retailer store, because it is on my way home, guys nice to talk to, but possibly you get it everywhere cheaper now too
Do you think you could do an installation video? I just got mine and the instructions aren't the best. I'm not telling you to disconnect them from your system, just from the wall. Thanks in advance.
Bose learn from their mistakes with past products. If anything, they have proven relaible. The olympic games use BOSE Panaray LTs (Run a google search) and have been happy with them for years.
Sure, they used to use paper an awful lot. Infact there's a bookshelf speaker that uses basically tracing paper/tissue as the cone, and is used in recording studios.
Bose uses a special mixture to develop a cone that's as light as paper, has similar properties but has durability of plastic. No more foam rot either. :-)...

It wouldve been better if you took a step back show you can display how it sounds if you are not directly in front of it.

Thaose are house surround speakers not PRO speakers so your comparison isn't fair, Pro speakers are for pros.

For surround sound speakers, they are very hard to beat and I've found them very reliable.
Cross them over on the amplifer at 80Hz. Use a subwoofer, and have an amplifer capable of pushing at least 100 watts per channel.
They are not 100% paper cones, but thats a different story.
gazr52 4 years ago
I'm not saying there all paper cones, but most bose audio is made out of paper cones.
