  • These guys tore it up...............RIP Tommy

  • Did Tom Ardolino pass away recently??? This song prompted me to check out the web site, and his pic comes up showing 1955-2012??? Please no!

  • @04026970 He passed away last night...

  • Many how I love to watch Terry Adams bang on the keys, and his brother was the backbone of the Whole Wheat Horns... the Q are truly a phenomenon to watch and dance to!!!

  • First heard this song in the 60's at The Shack in Oakville, CT. back when Al was in the WildWeeds. He was incredible then and still is.

  • The drummer and every body else in the band does good justice to this almighty classic instrumental song.

Hats off to the Rockin Rebels and NRBQ !

  • A studio version of this song would be awesome if anyone could put it up.

  • Best live band I ever saw. Saw them one time with Carl Perkins. They all came out in boxing robes. It was incredible. I think it was in West Harford, Conn. but I could be so wrong.

  • What a fun band they were to see live.

  • wayda go bro, first time I've seen this performance with vid&aud synced.

  • As usual Tommy's back there like a clock. Fun.

And to all the "this version is better than that version" folks–Why are you here listening and commenting. If you've nothing nice to say then best not say it.

  • Cris Farley on guitar haha

  • I love it! Good enough for me.

  • nrbq Windsor ct woot

  • This is the best cover version of the song I've heard.

  • @pantherproof - Then you must be nuts, even The Thunderbirds did this better, but the best version is the original by The Rockin'Rebels

  • @jt123egypte Listen to the version by Tinsley Ellis and the Heartfixers awesome instrumental!

  • @Darthbelal -

I did that a year ago and left a message! that cover of Tinsley Ellis is a great one ! Ten times better than this clumbsy thing.

  • RIP Chris !!

  • These guys are fun to watch/--Im sure the Rebels are cool with them,

  • Sounds great, you made your point, now you certainly don't need to continue to hanging out here, take care.

  • If you don't like it, don't watch it.

  • @fallonhadley 4 real!!!

  • You're more like a Rockin Rebels troll

  • I'd say he's more a rockabilly poser. Calls NRBQ a bunch of amateurs, but Brian Setzer's version of Summertime Blues is the first video on JT's page!

  • Perfect band, deserved much more than they got. At least Joey is immortalized in Hail, Hail Rock & Roll.

  • I totally feel like washing my car in the summer sun right now. This song rocks.

  • simpsons episode song!!

    Sunday, cruddy sunday

  • heard the song also from a simpsons episode... the episode i think was "Kill the alligator and run"

  • KB On Your Radio !

  • My very favorite NRBQ CD....this song ROCKS!

  • ROCK N ROLL 4 EVER!

  • These guys are great---and the Rockin Rebels rocked too!!

  • windsor hero's 4 LIFE hometown hero's

  • Not sure when - or even if - I heard these guys before. Good sound though. Thank Jim Boggia for a new interest in NRBQ. If you haven't heard "Listening to NRBQ", check it out.

  • "YOW!"

  • Well done lads!

  • these boys don't mess around...

  • Garage band?? First "live" song?? NRBQ had been together almost 20 years when this video was made! They wrote the lyrics to this formerly-instrumental song, thus making it their own. If they had wanted to just do a cover version, they woulda hired a sax player.I love their version !

  • This tune will never be their own. They know it.

The original "Wild Weekend" was an international hit played EVERYWHERE. Radio, parties, TV, movies. I never heard this version until I sought out the original.

  • OK like you know what they know, ya know? Truth be known I don't think you're in the know, although.. if you'd just give it another listen, give it another go, you'd understand that this was a tribute to a great song by a great band...And anyway, tell you're mom it's only NRBQ Man!

  • Wow, you're right! I listened to it again and I've seen the light!! My whole life has changed!! I'm going to sell all my assets and follow NRBQ around and pray they play this song at each of their gigs!!

  • Better get a move on then, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

  • I'll give your regards to all fellow

NRBQ fans!! "I've seen the light, I've seen the light..."

  • Yikes! No sax? They should have at least used the electric guitar to make the theme song to replace the sax: In fact: It probably would have sounded cooler and got more teenagers to notice.

If this is their first live song then I understand and have sympathy.

I like the original the best so far. This sounds like a "garage band" no offense, but, That is the best reference I can think of :(

  • "It probably would have sounded cooler and got more teenagers to notice." I've read some stupid shit here, but that takes the cake.

  • This version definitely suffers from lack of sax. Sounds like a garage band of 14 year olds. Rockin Rebels rule this song.

  • Man, don't even compare them! This version was meant to stand on its own. Cars/girls/parties were the subjects of a lot of NRBQ songs, since they were the subjects of their lives, just like all of us. These guys have more musical ability under the keyboard player's fingernails than most bands acquire in their entire career. Keep listening, you'll get it. And don't be so picky! It's only rock and roll -- GREAT rock and roll!

  • Cover is cover. Very few can cover a tune and improve on it. These guys can't. Not with this one. Let them come up with a truly great original that will stand the test of time.

  • Are you at all familiar with NRBQ? Try and find another rock band that made an album with Carl Perkins! And they wrote hundreds of great originals! Why do you have to compare the two versions anyway? The original instrumental was great, this vocal version is great! Relax and enjoy!

  • Uh, OK..."Me and the Boys", which was covered by Dave Edmunds, Bonnie Raitt and others. Or for a really good example, check out the video for "Little Floater", from the same poster as this video, same episode of Night Music. Or the video of "Get a Job" - tell me if THAT'S a good cover. Pay attention to the versatility. That's what set these guys apart from the pack. I'm not ragging on you. I just think you have to give the band more of a chance to sink in.

  • How about "That's Allright, Mama?" Or

"Mystery Train?" Or "Blue Moon of Kentucky?"

These are all covers that far exceed the originals. Done by someone who played with

gosh golly Carl Perkins. I'm just saying this version of "Wild Weekend" doesn't exceed the original- Have you let the original version sink in? How far back does your music knowledge go? Sounds like to about 1980.

I recommend you start with the Carter Family,

    Robert Johnson & Hank Williams.

  • Dude -- I was twelve when Wild Weekend came out, in 1963. The song was a huge influence on me. I loved that song, especially that wailing saxophone that caries the melody. You don't understand what I'm saying. NRBQ's "It's a Wild Weekend" is not intended to replace the original. The lyrics are meant as an enhancement, not as an instrumental substitute. Look, it's okay if you don't like it. Just try to understand what it is -- it's a cool song in its own right. That's all.

  • I love both versions-hating just takes way too much juice.

  • Beats the living fuck out of ALL other versions of this one INCLUDING the original!!Big Al in fine form per usual on the lead break.

Today's "so called" bands- GET WITH THE Q AND LEARN HOW ITS DONE.

  • Really cool song and this group is fantastic!!!

  • NRBQ captured (and held) the spirit of the early Beatles from their Cavern Club/Hamburg days. Somehow, someone somewhere should take note of that. MHO.

  • NRBQ is truly up there with the most listenable, likable, innovative bands of the past century. Oh, and they're continuing to knock us down this century too. I've seen 'em three times, my teenage daughters love them. Oh that people like Paul McCartney could have stayed 1/4 as productive!!!

  • Saw this show when it aired and thought this version

was pretty kool. 20 years later it's alright but it

sure doesn't compare to the original.

  • They actually had an official video for this song, recall seeing it on MTV. They deserved so much more attention. On Wikipedia sadly there's an issue as to whether Joey's well known enough to get an entry!!

  • Old Saybrook High School autotorium, 1973. top that

  • Thank you so much for posting this. NRBQ is pure magic!
