I have been a fan of Michael Card music about 30 years now , And to me this song is simply about Faith and what it truly should be, It is right to voice your opinion about all songs , Iam sure Michael would value the input given, I dont know him personally , but have always felt his songs are inspired by the word of God, Be Blessed. Robert . From Ireland..
RE: "Fell from His fingertips:" Poetic license. Michael is probably one of the most, if not THE most theologically solid Christian songwriters out there today. AND--he is one of the most musically sensitive. I certainly don't want to speak for him (LOL!!) but the use of the word "fell" is in keeping with the rhythm of the lyrics and the attention to natural speech cadence. It's very singable. :) Enjoy. Be blessed by his work.
@belikeyeshua Simply put, the line "the universe fell from His fingertips" does not imply that it fell from His control. Like saying a word fell from your lips.. it doesn't mean you lost control of your lips, it means your lips formed the word; so too, the universe didn't fall from His control, it was created by His fingers.
@belikeyeshua : I think Brad Stine said it best..." 'Go away, God!' 'We don't want You, God!' 'Get out of our schools, God!' 'Get out of our courtrooms, God!' 'Go away, God!' ...KATRINA HIT. 'God, where are You???' " Taking credit for all the good things, blaming God for all the bad things, when it's really the other way around...
@belikeyeshua : I really think you're reading it the wrong way. Michael Card - and I know this for a fact - did not mean that it was ever out of God's control. It's simply a poetic way of saying He spun the universe ex nihilo. You are absolutely correct - God is never out of control of things - but I think you're splitting hairs at a point that isn't that controversial.
@belikeyeshua : well, He did create the universe before creating Adam and Eve. It was after He created the universe He decided He wanted some fellowship...that's when He created Adam and Eve. Then, after that, Adam and Eve wouldn't submit, "so He made a better way". It's a very linear song - creation of the universe, creation of man and woman, then the Fall.
@belikeyeshua : pretty sure that he meant that as creation... "when the universe fell from His fingertips, He decided He wanted some fellowship"...the order of the words makes me think that Michael Card is referring to Creation BEFORE the Fall.
