There's where you're mistaken, to fully understand this, I hope you already understand the concept of horsepower. 5 liter V10's rev extremely high, and incase you didn't know, horsepower is essentially an average of torque at a certain spot on the RPM range. No doubt I love BMW, their engines aren't a good example for this, they've always produced a lot of torque.

With forged internals, it's possible to have a big block revving to 8,500 RPM. There's really no need to rev higher than that.

You're going into a whole different story talking about F1 engines, they're complete race engines, I don't know too much, but aren't they rebuilt every race? They also weigh around 1,300 pounds, I'm talking about engines used on everyday street legal cars with full interiors, around 3,000 pounds.
