Alot of these guys from the grunge era screwed up. We all thought we were invincible back then, we thought we were gonna rule the world. Clinton, a young guy, was in the white house, grunge ruled the airwaves w/ a great movement, we were rebelling but lots of us messed up & never got to where we thought we'd be going. All those musicians kids idolize now are dead & were junkies back then. I miss the music but we were far from successful.

Wow. Layne's mother spoke volumes. Mike Starr wasn't able to fight his own problems. Best friends and neither could help the other. This was sad to watch. I saw that season of VH1 Celebrity Rehab. Mike was really hurting over Layne's death. I too, believe the guilt helped kill him, he probably kept getting high to drown out the pain, along with being addicted.

Heroin is one of the hardest drug to kick off it's habit especially when shootin it up. Most people who have tried to quit have died trying and the one's who made a full recovery are far few in-between because of the high relapse rate. It's either you O.D or commit suicide because of the horrible withdrawls. It's a very bad drug, it's highly addictive because it relaxes your body and nerves but the withdrawls symptoms are almost as bad as dying from it. It's taken the best from us. DON'T DO IT.
@da1stegr really depends on the dosage, I have people who will shoot on weekends only, some people can have that willpower and regulate it so it's not a social stigma or habit, they won't let that develop.
Then again I agree completely with the Withdrawals, they are fucking horrible and you tell yourself you'll never do it again but you end up just lying to yourself.
Best thing to do is stand in front of a mirror, look at yourself up and down, do you like what you see? If not, change.

@da1stegr When you get greedy for that high, the first time you do opiates, you want that feeling...the warm blanket symptoms and euphoria, your dose increases, eventually tolerance kicks in and this is the part where you HAVE to quit, I've gone through it many times.
Opiate users fear the withdrawals and exaggerate the torment, I think to myself what about those people who were starved to death in Siberia, Russian Labour Camps or other inhumane atrocities, much worse than a Opiate Withdrawal.

Addicts and former Addicts (Reformed Addicts) always make the withdrawals from opiates to be a massive terrible deal, it's nowhere near as bad as it seems, kidney stones or pancreatic pain would make opiate withdrawal seem like a few days at the gym.
@Parag0n it depends on the severity of the addiction. opiate withdrawel can be fatal..its a fact. a person sitting here giving people information on the subject should know this. you cant begin to comprehend the pain a person feels through their eyes. its their thoughts that can end up doing the long term damage, not just a drug or some other outside source, you dont know layne or what bothered him deep down, he tried to drown w/e bothered him with the drugs. he knew he fucked up by using them.

@Parag You shouldn't comment on a subject you don't know personally. Be thankful you don't. Hard opiates such as oxy's and up takes a lot longer than a couple of days. Try 4 to 5 weeks before your somewhat "normal". 1st your eyesight is blurry and wavy for a month. The first week you have to be hand fed almost by a loved one. There won't be a muscle or joint in your body that doesn't hurt. Vomiting,diareah and thoughts of suicide. Of course something fatal is worse but you are way off

As soon as you want more addiction kicks in and then from doing it on the weekends only it will go to everyday. @Parag0n Please take your own advice. I can comment because I've lived it, had loved ones die from it, and help people that suffer from hard withdrawal to this day. You should go to a rehab or methadone clinic and speak to the counselors, nurses, and doctors that work with addiction daily and spout your thoughts to them and see their response. The only thing your right about is commenting to you. Brilliant response though "dah shout the F up" can't argue against that kind of debate skill.
Mike could't forgive himself for Layne's death but Layne's Mom did. And he did recover. But you have to understand when you do drugs for that long (as long as mike starr did) it's so hard to live whithout them. To understand you have to been using drugs for years otherwise you won't. It's not just getting high but the life style,friends and the control the drug has over you. Then the relief of being away from everyone and sadness begs for you to relapse and have that good feeling again. I know.

If they didn't want to be on TV so their fans can follow them and motivate them, they would go to one of those free clinics that has a waiting list out the door, or pay for a more private clinic. You know. I am a teacher, and I want to help children, because I think education is important. Maybe, just maybe, Dr. Drew wants to help people; and, with TV, you reach people that would never go to a treatment facility. This way, people with sobriety issues can see they aren't alone in suffering, wanting help. In other words, if these rich people have these issues, maybe there is help for some "regular" guy, too!

Back in late 2010 I came across this video and it struck me as profound, but now it strikes home for me even more so because less than a month ago I lost a good friend of mine who was an alcoholic (and an AiC fan, by the way...) Listen to this video and take it to heart kids, because drugs will not only rob you of opportunities, they will rob you of yourselves. Layne's mom is right and it really is no joke. You and everybody around you WILL suffer.
Finding out about this was horrible, but It's easy to get hooked on drugs. I am a recovering addict. It is something hard to go through, going through the rehabilitation is very hard to do. There have been A LOT of times when I have wanted to relapse, but I know it will all work out, and drugs are not helping me at all.

@hilldean it does suck that the talent is gone..but some of the best music from them or any bands for that matter is when people are dealing with youth,drugs,and life in general..basically some of the music that you love would never had happen if these people werent going through their own trials and tribulations...drugs just happen to be these guys...and it did cost them all their lives..
It was hard for me to watch this scene and to hear that Mike had been avoiding Mrs Staley because of what happened to her son. :( It was honorable that she was theire to support Mike and his mother.
It's a shame that Mike went, right when he was getting his act together. But there is a positive side. Mike has been forgiven, and is now with his best friend Layne again in God's mansion jamming. I'm happy Mike is back with Layne.
Wow Layne's mom is great. I finally came to terms today after being on Norcos for almost 3 years that I have a serious problem. I had a procedure today and my GI Dr is making me get off them. At first I was upset but then realized that it was the news I needed to hear. I was in horrible denial and I'm looking forward to that boring life she talks about.
It wasnt mike Starrs fault that layne died, layne made the choice to use the drugs that killed him, its a shame that he was consumed by addiction he was an amazing artist and will be missed as mike starr will be, they both were really great guys, Mike was one of my best friends Im going to miss him, Layne to was one of my good friends , Mike and I was just getting over that , then he goes , I will miss you both

Heroin is one of the hardest drug to kick off it's habit especially when shootin it up. Most people who have tried to quit have died trying and the one's who made a full recovery are far few in-between because of the high relapse rate. It's either you O.D or commit suicide because of the horrible withdrawls. It's a very bad drug, it's highly addictive because it relaxes your body and nerves but the withdrawls symptoms are almost as bad as dying from it. It's taken the best from us. DON'T DO IT.

@da1stegr really depends on the dosage, I have people who will shoot on weekends only, some people can have that willpower and regulate it so it's not a social stigma or habit, they won't let that develop.
Then again I agree completely with the Withdrawals, they are fucking horrible and you tell yourself you'll never do it again but you end up just lying to yourself.
Best thing to do is stand in front of a mirror, look at yourself up and down, do you like what you see? If not, change.

@da1stegr When you get greedy for that high, the first time you do opiates, you want that feeling...the warm blanket symptoms and euphoria, your dose increases, eventually tolerance kicks in and this is the part where you HAVE to quit, I've gone through it many times.
Opiate users fear the withdrawals and exaggerate the torment, I think to myself what about those people who were starved to death in Siberia, Russian Labour Camps or other inhumane atrocities, much worse than a Opiate Withdrawal.

@addamictma Haha, Opiate Withdrawal the worst pain? You have to be kidding, a couple days of the flu and some nausea and sweats, you can't die from withdrawals, except for Benzo withdrawal.
Addicts and former Addicts (Reformed Addicts) always make the withdrawals from opiates to be a massive terrible deal, it's nowhere near as bad as it seems, kidney stones or pancreatic pain would make opiate withdrawal seem like a few days at the gym.

@Parag0n it depends on the severity of the addiction. opiate withdrawel can be fatal..its a fact. a person sitting here giving people information on the subject should know this. you cant begin to comprehend the pain a person feels through their eyes. its their thoughts that can end up doing the long term damage, not just a drug or some other outside source, you dont know layne or what bothered him deep down, he tried to drown w/e bothered him with the drugs. he knew he fucked up by using them.

@Parag You shouldn't comment on a subject you don't know personally. Be thankful you don't. Hard opiates such as oxy's and up takes a lot longer than a couple of days. Try 4 to 5 weeks before your somewhat "normal". 1st your eyesight is blurry and wavy for a month. The first week you have to be hand fed almost by a loved one. There won't be a muscle or joint in your body that doesn't hurt. Vomiting,diareah and thoughts of suicide. Of course something fatal is worse but you are way off

As soon as you want more addiction kicks in and then from doing it on the weekends only it will go to everyday. @Parag0n Please take your own advice. I can comment because I've lived it, had loved ones die from it, and help people that suffer from hard withdrawal to this day. You should go to a rehab or methadone clinic and speak to the counselors, nurses, and doctors that work with addiction daily and spout your thoughts to them and see their response. The only thing your right about is commenting to you. Brilliant response though "dah shout the F up" can't argue against that kind of debate skill.

But you have to understand when you do drugs for that long (as long as mike starr did) it's so hard to live whithout them. To understand you have to been using drugs for years otherwise you won't. It's not just getting high but the life style,friends and the control the drug has over you. Then the relief of being away from everyone and sadness begs for you to relapse and have that good feeling again. I know.

Maybe, just maybe, Dr. Drew wants to help people; and, with TV, you reach people that would never go to a treatment facility. Back in late 2010 I came across this video and it struck me as profound, but now it strikes home for me even more so because less than a month ago I lost a good friend of mine who was an alcoholic (and an AiC fan, by the way...) Listen to this video and take it to heart kids, because drugs will not only rob you of opportunities, they will rob you of yourselves. Layne's mom is right and it really is no joke. Finding out about this was horrible, but It's easy to get hooked on drugs. I am a recovering addict. It is something hard to go through, going through the rehabilitation is very hard to do. There have been A LOT of times when I have wanted to relapse, but I know it will all work out, and drugs are not helping me at all.

Wow Layne's mom is great. I finally came to terms today after being on Norcos for almost 3 years that I have a serious problem. I had a procedure today and my GI Dr is making me get off them. At first I was upset but then realized that it was the news I needed to hear. I was in horrible denial and I'm looking forward to that boring life she talks about.
