For example, if you have something like, oh say, a bowling ball and it's rolling toward you, and let's say you have a tennis ball, if you hit it at the right angle, the bowling ball will slowly fall off course. Actually Ceres the largest body in the Main Asteroid Belt is round. It was reclassified as a dwarf planet at the same time Pluto and Eris were. Ceres is in a stable orbit though, so the chances of it coming toward and hitting the Earth are slim to nil.

Respond to this video... Actually Ceres is round and the biggest body in the Asteroid belt. It was reclasified as a dwarf planet a few years ago along with Pluto and Eris. It's in a stable orbit though, no real chance of of it ever coming and hitting Earth.

But it is a rather good animation witg good special effects and a clear view about what should happen if a 300 mile wide asteroid us would it in modern times.

Supralightning mixed it with suitable music, which makes it a nice footage.

Currently, it's impossible that Ceres ore another of the really big (50 miles diameter or more) asteroids would hit us. But if it should happen, things like that are way too big to handle for us as humans. So in that case we can stop speculating about it and just say bye-bye to a liveable planet.

By the way: the music is really good. It does perfect fit the footages, and also when it runs on the background whitout images, it still is an quite nice piece of work. Well done!

Also, blowing up a meteor or an asteroid is probably the worst way you could ever handle that situation. Because now you have thousands of meteorite shards flying into the planet, most likely with STILL a lot of Freaking High Velocity. (A meteor going 2000mps+, isn't going to be slowed down much by a nuclear device, seeing as how a meteorite is about 1000x+ more powerful and devastating then a nuke) We can't match that amount of force, so we can Only hope to Redirect it.

Also the meteor most likely would be going so fast, that people think that the Earth's gravity would pull it in way to fast, not really the case. The meteor would either Crash devastatingly into the planet depending on how much kinetic energy it has. 1/2(Mass+Velocity). Faster it's going, more damage it will do. Most cases they're very fast....so...to change the direction would only require a little nudge, by something in the Earth's orbit, big enough, that'd cause the ast. to nudge it away.

...no...actually moving a meteor or asteroid is actually quite simple, specially when it's going faster, the smallest nudge, if we had something like...even 2% the size of the asteroid and it was moving say...2000 miles a second, you'd do some basic math as to how fast it would change direction. There's currently a plan to make a 'sort've' space station, to use gravity of the station itself to 'nudge' a possible meteor or asteroid away, all you'd have to do it Accurately predict where theMWouldB
