Only in a song like this can you hear the words "I'm ready for the city... Air pollution, here I come!" without environmentalist do-gooders trying to censor it.
Burned a couple cds of old school music for guy at work. He's 20 years old and after he'd listened to them he came back and said 'Jeez there was a lot of great music around before I was born.'
@kimberkley ..kids today dont know how to even act without a phone in their hand and check every other second.. They think they r so cool with a phone..Not we didn't need phones 24 7
It just doesn't get any better than this...talk about a wall of sound, from the first power chords to the ending arpeggios with that slinky bass line keeping it all in the groove. I'm a fool for loud guitars...
Many of us oldtimers ended up on some farm or commune during the late 60's and early 70's. The lyrics "tired of layin back, hanging around" goddamn how true. Couldn't wait to get back to the city.
None of the new bands can match Foghat's intensity and perfection, I mean, listen to Nick Jameson's bass on this song! Not ta mention Rod's precise, ball-breaking solo. And Lonesome Dave Peverett's vocals were under-rated (by me, too, back in the day!) and are really top, top-notch.
Were you stimulated by "Slowride" back in the day? Well take a listen to BuckCherry's "Too Drunk". Though it be lewd, the song musically kicks total ass. Also check out releases from Filter, NIN, Jane's Addiction, Foo Fighters, Velvet Underground, Arctic Monkeys, Hot Hot Heat, Avenged Sevenfold, or Alter Bridge. These current bands will rock your f'n socks off!!!!!
now hold on a second, these young musicians are reflecting the times of this age as Foghat did in theirs. Give 'em a break. No need to dog them....the music has changed as one would expect. But hey, I do love this music!!!
i'm a rocker and a fisherman and this cover is the sest !!! great song by a great band. rockin' blues..we miss you lonesome dave and rod price. rip they were two of the best.
@Apoplectic1 I believe it's because we're becoming less and less satisfied with what we have, because all of the material goods we're chasing after is taking us away from our real purpose in life and we end up feeling pointless... but that's just me. ^_^u
this song reminds me of when my best friend got his first place, and he only had a record player and only one of his records and it was this one, we ate some shrooms and danced all night to this! good times! =]
I can almost guarantee you won't hear the lyric "Air pollution, here I come!" in anything out of today's music. One of the oddest yet greatest lines in any song, ever.
@bucky468 Although I respect yout opinion not all of today's music is crap I enjoy listening to this band very much but I also listen to current rock, metal, and death metal.
@Chronosassassin I was referring to the mainstream pop crap from today (some are calling Britney, Lady Gaga & Katy Perry who all use autotune & other such crap enhancers "rock" which is totally false.) Certainly not all of today's music is crap. Airbourne rocks, Wolfmother is good, some Jack White/White Stripes is good, Black Stone Cherry rocks, the Exies rock, HellYeah rocks, Crossfade is good & Silvertide rocks (they should've stayed together.) I don't mind Adele, KT Tunstall & Grace Potter.
@Chronosassassin When you finally look them up tell me what you think of those bands you never heard of. Jack White is a unique modern day guitarist. He can play arena/classic rock, alternative rock, prog-rock & the blues. I personally like his side project the Ranconteurs more than I do the White Stripes. Silvertide was a modern rock band whose roots were based more on bands like Foghat & AC/DC.
@StratsRgreat Old school rap is nothing like the (c)rap from today. Gimme a Run-DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Sugarhill Gang, Curtis Blow or UTFO album any day of the week over Kanye, Nelly, Jay-Z, Eminem, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Niki Minaj or any of their ilk. There is a huge difference.
