  • the commercial has made such an impressin. my friends still sing the rap into my answering machine...

  • The number still works!!!

  • I remember when we were kids in the 80s we couldn't order it (we didn't have a credit card) so we memorized the "wait for the beep" song and just sung it into our answering machine for the outgoing message. It sucked because we didn't have accompanying music or anything, but we get a laugh over it now 25 years later!

  • It sounds like B- Real from Cypress Hill on the "Wait for The Beep" hook.

  • I enjoyed the apparent rhyming of 'home' and 'long' during the rap!

  • I really like the answering machine zone one.

  • Hearing this commercial in my childhood, I honestly admit that everytime I listen to Beethoven's Fifth, my inner mind voice starts singing "Nobody's Hoooooooome. Nobody's Hoooooooome."

That's the power of memories long past for you.

  • oh my god

  • fuck this.

  • I called just to hear that again!

  • The best $14.95 I've ever spent.

  • family guy referenced the rap one and 80's novelty answer machine messages.

  • Every single night for how many years on the USA Cartoon Express? I love "The Rap" Even that answering machine rap song is better then 90% of the rap music today.

  • "Hi this is Jerry Macguire. Show me the message! Show the message!"

  • I sat through this schlock 14,000 times back when it was originally on the air, and then come back intentionally look it up twenty years later. Some ads just never die. Thanks for preserving a great little piece of history :-).

  • i have this lol

  • Nobody's home.....Nobody's home....!

  • I need this.

  • I to remember this while watching the price is right on my grandparents living room floor! I wonder what the old gangster who sang "The Rap" is doing these days!

  • They alluded to this on "Family Guy" and my boyfriend thought they were making it up. Thanks, YouTube!

  • Rap one wins big time :D

  • YES!!!

  • I prefer the george kostanza answering message

  • I just want to say I LOVE YOUTUBE. Moments ago, a flash of a memory from an old commercial popped into my mind. "Wait for the BEEP! Gotta leave your number, gotta leave your name! Wait for the BEEP!"

I just look up "answering machine commercial" and the very first one on the search is the one commercial I was thinking of. A rush of nostalgia has come over me. Thanks YouTube!

  • and thanks nebulax!

  • You're welcome!

  • I ran across this randomly...but oh, do i remeber this...

  • @cherrydelro the EXACT same thing just happened to me....

  • @cherrydelro Ditto! I did the exact same thing! I used to hear this commercial all the time on the radio back in the 80s! Never knew there was a TV version. Glad to run into someone else who felt the same way about this ad as me!

  • @cherrydelro yep...same here! lol

  • exact same thing happened to me just now. I started singing wait for the beep and my wife looked at me like I had 2 heads.

  • Yeah, I have this on an old VHS tape, and my lil bro, who is 15 years younger than me, actually said, what the hell is a cassette....I feel way older than 29 now....

  • Does anyone know where I can find these in full? I had one for my last cell but I got a new phone and cant find any anymore..

  • Try Rapidshare, You can get anything on there nowadays!!

  • haha i heard that on family guy im like madly in love with that show so i was searching the episode and yeah hahahahaha

(I saw the last one on family guy. o.o)

  • pure 80's i remember this commerical..there is also a diff version with a doo-wop kinda song after the rap...god times.

  • Man! In the 70's and 80's we had it good!!

  • I have this tape somewhere!

    LOL!

I used it a good bit, and my callers were not amused. Well, some of them were, but most of them were not!

  • wait for the beep you got leave your name you got to leave your number wait for beep lol I use to use that one all the time back in the day.

  • This truly brings back memories! The favorite by far was "Nobody's Home"!

  • Where can I get this tape?

  • Good question. I don't think it's made anymore, so eBay, maybe.

  • lol i remember calling someone who had this! You couldn't even understand the words because the quality was so bad, so you'd just figure that you'd dialed the wrong number and not leave a message.

  • I remember this from either the late 80s or early 90s. LOL My favorite was the Beethoven sounding "Nobodys home! Nobodys homeee!!!"

  • How much better would this have been if they'd spelt it 'Krazy' or even 'Kerrrrazy'

  • LMAO

  • awesome!!!!!

  • i miss the eighties...

  • OMG, thank you so much, me and my friend used to do the rap and say nobody is home.

    WAIT FOR THE BEEP!

  • I remember this commercial. For some reason the song's creeped me out.

  • wait for the beep! I wanted this so bad when I saw it, but at the time we didn't even have an answering machine. (Actually, I've never owned one- always used voice mail!) GOOD TIMES!

  • OMG I can't believe I found this!

  • LULZ...I love it!

  • Whoever used this tape lost what few friends they had.

    Sad.

  • Holy crap, I actually remember seeing this commercial a few times when it originally aired! It was sad then, even sadder now.

  • lol i wonder who actually bought that

  • lol that was sooooooooooo funny

  • This commercial inspired so many of our answering machine messages. It also was the commercial for all 3rd graders to mimic.

    Janglar said it best...

  • haha.... this is real too! lol

    I want one!

    XxSarah

  • only 14.95!! lol

  • I remember making these in college -- like the one where it says things like, "You've reached Dial-a-Shrink - if you have OCD, press 2 repeatedly" and so forth. I always wanted to get a recording of Rupert Holmes' forgotten single "Answering Machine" to play on my outgoing message, and now that I could do it (thanks to MP3s), it's really far too late.

  • never forget it, thanks for posting this, it really brings back memories.

  • I still use wait for the beep in my conversations and what not. Classic commercial. Love it!! Share with younger people that would have never known this joy.

  • OH MY GOD, this is awesome. What horrifying memories!

  • I paid $29 for the reel to reel version. Now it's on compact cassette for half the price! I KNEW I should've waited.

  • LOL

  • I just downloaded this video and Ron Darian isn't going to see a penny. Shouldn't someone do something about that?

  • I've been waiting my whole life to see this golden classic again. Wait for the beep, youu gotta leave your name ya gotta leave your numba

  • wow.. my dad wanted this when i was kid.. we never got it... ill have to share it w/ him now.. ha

  • I can't believe I just found this by searching. I figured no one would remember this. Crazy!

  • lmao.

    is this even real?

why wouldn't anyone pay $15 for this?

    but it's funny as hell.

  • NOBODY'S HOME! LOL This tape rules!

  • Wait For The Beep!

  • I just called the number and orderd my very own tape!!! AWESOME!!!

  • Do they have that for a micro tape answering machine??

  • Hey how did you get one of these i would seriously like to get one my self let me know thanks email me on youtube if you get my comment would really like to know how to get one

  • I don't think these message tapes are made anymore, but you might find one on eBay.

  • Gawd, my father used to think this was funny, and he'd torture us by using these outgoing messages. I hijacked the machine one day and left a snotty outgoing message and got into trouble.

  • i remember this from back in the day. "wait for the beep" never gets old.

  • WTF??!! LOL!!!!

    What tha?? are you serious???

  • I remember this, now wait for the beep! lmao.

  • LOL 80's rap. :D

  • You could call this a reverse prank call.

  • NOBODY'S HOME! I've been looking for this ad for years. Thanks. Wait for the beep!

  • I remember when this was advertised on television back in 1984.

  • $ 14.95!!!!

  • WHat kind of fucking rap was that??

  • that is oldskool when it whas newskool. I think it was mc answer.

  • All I know is that I do that rap whenever I feel like being a idiot. Which is more often than I care to admit.

  • As good as any rap in my opinion

  • LMAO! Thanks for posting this one!

  • I remember the last song at the end of the commercial after the last beep was a doo wop like message "I'll call you back when I get home...Oooo Weeeee Ooooo Ooooo"---too bad they didn't clip it! LOL

  • Those not only fucking suck, they're expensive.

  • Is that a rotary-dial phone in the background?

  • $14.95...? That was a lot, even then! Probably like two people actually bought it!

  • I wonder what the other two were like.

  • I agree with all of you. Even now it's not wise to tell someone you're not home.

  • We use an answering machine that uses tapes.

  • Hilarious and weird...

  • "The Rap." There is no need for the definitive article.

  • Back in those days, I always heard that it wasn't the smartest idea in the world to announce to the world on your answering machine tapes that you weren't home. Oh well. :)

  • I remember this commercial. I even wanted that tape. In this day and age, I think I'll pass.

  • WAIT FO' TH' BEEP! (muthafucka!)

Holy SHIT, I totally remember this stupid-ass commercial!

    And $15? What the HELL?!

  • how the hell did this work? How can it record a message without recording over the other songs?? Was one side left blank?

  • a lot of the old machines had two tapes -- one for outgoing and the other for incoming. But for the ones with one tape, i believe the machine would scan forward to search for a tone at the end of the outgoing message and the end of the incoming messages that haven't been heard yet. That's why if you had a lot of messages it would cause a longer beep for people waiting to leave a message.

  • Ours uses 2 tapes.

  • Me too! Nobody's Home!!!

  • No one outside of Chicago will remember this but... Remember the Larry Lujak commercials from the early to mid 80's Larry Lujack Larry Lujack the bird dog wolf howl well I one left a were not here now were not here now leave a message after the beep. Also my Uncle had one with Rochester Jack Bennys servent always craked me up

  • - "Do you have insurance on this car?"

    - "Nooooo...."

    - "It must be Eagle Man!!"

  • Awesomely bad. :-)

  • This was mentioned on the Daily Giz Wiz podcast! Awesome, I loved this ad!!

  • OMG I LOVED this one. I talked right along with it...must have been my fav back in the day cause it is just not right that i knew EVERYTHING about that commercial.I am happily ashamed with myself..love this commercial tho!!!

  • I was just singing the rap in this commercial the other day. I can't believe you have this. My husband thought I was making it up. Awesome

  • This SO Obnoxious..

  • Where's "Believe it or not, George isn't at home...where could he beeeeeeee?"

Ha, I remember this spot. Ugh.

  • This was the coolest back in the day. Anyone still have an answering machine that actually can take a cassette tape?

  • weird

  • HOLY SHIT do I remember that!!

  • ohh. shit.. yeah, i remember this. But even for todays prices...$14.95.. they can eat there own crap.

  • thank god people got over this. i dont see it done anymore.

  • Man, that rap was corny near the end LOL!!

  • I remember that commercial.
