That's caused by the palette swap. It's the same reason Knuckles can't be played in Sonic 1 like he can in Sonic 2 with the Sonic & Knuckles cartridge.

Slightly silly question. Did you include a debug hack for super form? (super sonic was usable via debug mode, or clearing with all 7 emeralds in 1 inings, which enabled debug mode without using cheat codes).

That is a silly question... this is sonic 1, Super Sonic was introduced in Sonic 2..

Actually no, not many people know, but if you collect all emeralds in 1 inning the debug mode has an extra special stage, if complete you can set one of them items setting to allow super form. It took me and a mate 2 months to do the whole lot in 1 try, the bonus stage requires a 1 try complete to work otherwise you don't get the change. No special stage fails, and no continues used. It was made close to impossible but we done it after 2 months trying for 5 hours a day.
