Im having an annoying problem with my taskbar/internet Browser where the browser is partially under the taskbar.......this is keeping me from things i need to get to.... Anyone have a solution?
This one is funny but Windows 7 is to move forward. And you should know by now that Windows never play'd well with others. I know this vid is old but eh shows how people are too dumb to figure out new things.. You get comfortable in old things and when new different things come out you freak out or lose your mind. NO don't change windows, then my suggestion is stay with vista or xp... I dont care what changes come im ready for anything.
@cookiedough786 Oh, you've had that too!? Same here, happened after my Adobe plug-in crashed. What I did was turn the computer off completely (no restart) and booted it up again.
Applications that minimize to a hidden tray? Confusion? You should add frustration because they probably don't know what's slowing down their computer as them open up more windows.
i have a question : i was using windows 7 and everything worked perfect ... until one day when i click on internet or msn or skype... for example im opening skype : i click on it and what happens is that we see the window of skype go to the right of my screen. it does the same for msn and internet . so plz help me !!!!
Thanks man! So now I know the graphic card is the problem. I already thought it would be the graphic card but just checkin' is not a problem so.. I'm gonna look for a new graphic card. thanks! :D
What should be noted here is that the application DOES minimize to the tray as required. Since the taskbar and the quicklaunch area in Win7 has been combined, it may be confusing to some (clearly the poster of this video) that a new instance of the program is being opened. However, Win7 give the visual clue that it has not been minimized by not outlining the box at the bottom. And just like you would maximize a program from the quicklaunch ordinarily, you should know not to click it here.
Also, this only happens to programs that you have selected to be pinned to the taskbar, not every program. Unlike what the video description says though, this is not "ridiculous behaviour", just the same behaviour as XP/Vista presented a bit differently.
It's certainly ridiculous behaviour if you no longer are able to take advantage of the actual "pinned" functionality for any pinned application that minimizes to tray.
"you should know not to click there" is a pretty interesting UI rationale. I wonder if they use that on those big red buttons that launch nukes. You know, no need for a label, just make it a regular button, and if someone hits it just say, "Duh, you should have KNOWN it was going to launch a nuke".
Realistically, though: if a UI causes confusion to "some" (it's debatable how large this "some" really is), it's obviously not a good UI decision. More importantly, the behaviour is neither consistent nor idempotent, because when you click the minimize button on an application, you don't yet know if it will minimize to tray or to taskbar, and the behaviour can change at whim.
And if you think 3 pixels is a "visual cue", consider yourself observant.
Right, but if the big red button turned to green and I knew that that button served two purposes (one of them being the launch of nukes and the other perhaps to deploy more defense), then I would know what to expect when pressing the button. Now I realize that the difference in the two modes of the button is not quite as jarring as red and green, but the button does serve two purposes (launching a new instance or maximizing a program minimized to taskbar) and the appearance changes accordingly.
The question is whether you want to take advantage of pinned functionality or tray. You can't have both. I agree though that the behaviour should be consistent; either it should always minimize to the taskbar or always to the tray, and not change this behaviour.
And its not just 3 pixels, its a whole border plus a huge difference in the shading and highlights. I have no difficulty telling which programs are currently minimized and which ones are unopened (or in the tray)
Could work both ways, if software developers are aware that this is the nature of windows 7 then I think developers would want to avoid making stuff like that.
Just as many people get confused when an application is thought to be closed or minimized to the taskbar and it lands in the tray by default. Now THAT is annoying.
As shown in the video, you don't get the preview of the open windows because it's minimized to tray (and therefore no longer in the taskbar), which is [part of] the issue.
You are right: this is an issue. But I would say it is partly the program's fault. It shouldn't minimize to the tray, but rather to the taskbar. I am guessing that if ti was windows vista, the icon from the taskbar would dissapear and show up on the tray when you minimized it.
I *want* it to minimize to the tray. I suppose Microsoft is moving away from programs that have such behaviour, but I find it rather useful. Still, the difference would be that in Vista you wouldn't be fooled into thinking the quicklaunch icon was what you're expected to press to re-activate an application.
It seemed logical to me clicking twice would open a new instance of the program. If you hover over the button it shows you a preview of all open windows and lets you choose one to maximize.

Please check these:
1.Your graphics card supports Aero
2. It is turned off in Personalization
3.Your system is not low on Random Access Memory (RAM)
4.Programs are not using too many resources
these are some reasons people do not have the transparents taskbar.
Also, in personalization you can select Windows 7 under Aero Themes.
Try a troubleshooter (Start and search for Troubleshooter, it should be under Appearance in there) and it will disagnose the problem.
Hope this helped!
