@waterflowzz I've been to all the major cities from Shanghai to Tokyo to Singapore and everything in between. Seoul's layout and vibe is similar to one of a Japanese city (similar, not the same) but in general, asian cities have a distinct unitary feel. It's like Berlin and Paris. Different, but similar due to the underlying culture.
Seoul is great for nightlife.. although musically it's still too homogeneous. You wouldn't notice on a 2 week holiday, but after a few months, hearing the same 30-40 kpop and pop-hiphop songs in clubs really starts to grind.
@tomsega i totally agree with u - that's y it's important the indie scene gets as much exposure as possible or the airwaves won't have balance nor will it evolve.
@patleezy right on bro, I'm not a youngn anymore nor am I an old fart but that commercial stuff can only do so much for me musically LOL, pop is the worst. You did a great job capturing another aspect of Seoul. We've all seen the touristy things and made for foreigner spots, but what I really miss about the ROK is the great times I have with Korean friends each time I go and all the off the path places. Thanks for making me homesick...my second home that is.
@tomsega i guess you missed out on hongdae.. yeah the mainstream stuff is kpop but there's other styles in the indie scenes. You just have to look around for them cuz they aren't as publicized.
@waterflowzz - I've been here 18 months and I'm ten minutes from Hongdae. Of course there is SOME different music available, but for a city of this size there's very little variation on offer and you've really got to be looking. On some random Wednesday night, it feels like the average English city of 200,000 has more varied live and club music going on than this city of 20 million. I might sound critical but I'm just describing one way in which this already-great city could improve.
That made me second-home-sick, leezy :) Thanks for putting it together!
@tomsega It's quite like Toronto in that way. If I didn't search out good music, watch out for posters and listen to word of mouth I'd just be listening to the same top 20 pop tunes everywhere. :) Seriously - Yonge St. ruined Adele's Rollin in the Deep for me. :(
An older Korean band (more than 5 years) that I love - Blue Dawn 푸른새벽. Well worth checking out.
This reminds me of the wonderful times I had in Seoul this past summer. What a romantic, beautiful city. If you ever have the chance to go, don't hesitate. It'll change your life.

I'm sorry but almost every other (developed) Asian city looks like this at night besides the food and language.
Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Seoul look the same.

@uberredden Yes it might look like that on cam but if you actually go to the different countries the atmosphere is totally different.
