  • I don't have Mantorok spells. Is it still possible to beat him

  • I'm stuck at this bos... I try attacking him while he's vulnerable and a zombie goes to town on my brains. My timing sucks and I'm on the verge of throwing my Wii out the window this boss is that difficult T_T

  • Ok my last comment was too long... Use three point allognment to save magic

  • Arg

  • tus videos tan chingones :D

  • Huh. And here I thought Japanese history was the only one with giant enemy crabs. Oh well, you know the drill. Attack its weak point for massive damage.

  • I just noticed something as I was watching this again - it's taking so long cuz he's not really using the level 5 spells. Use the highest level possible at that point in the game and you can kill any of the villians off alot quicker.

  • @SnotRockets55 No, it was because I didn't know the timing back when I recorded this video. I don't think the level of the spell does more damage to a Black Guardian either.

  • @moseslmpg It does, seriously. The stronger spells pack more damage in each time, makes killing it a way quicker process.

  • I see the purple orbs! Another person who actually bothered to backtrack all the way through that one level to get that last rune. Doing that is a pain in the ass but it comes in handy later because the purple one is the most powerful of them all.

  • 33,300th view

  • JEFF I AM SO NOT IN THE MOOD FOR YOU!

GET BACK IN THE SUBWAY RIGHT NOW!

  • I'm gonna need more butter

  • zara!

  • This one has the hardist.. Are the ancients like Easy - Xel, Medium - Uly Hard -Chatt?

  • It's funny how in every game, the Big Monster never do the job himself he's always have an army of little monster ^^

  • Shoot the energy balls that he fires at you. Just trying to dodge them is a pain.

  • @Zyxxs OK, just let me go back 4 years in the past :P

  • @moseslmpg I was making a general strat comment. You don't have to be a sarcastic jerk about it.

  • @Zyxxs It was more tongue-in-cheek than sarcastic, so you don't have to act so hurt about it. A lot of people do actually address such "strat comments" to me as if I am playing the game in real time. After 4 years, I think I have earned a little leeway with my responses.

  • nice masonic floor there

  • @LeonaRulez You know, something in me is telling me that Freemasons didn't invent checkerboard. Masons might have put the tile down, since they build stuff.

  • @moseslmpg maybe, but its a symbol they use with their logo.

  • I love Peters face when the guardian brings the energy barrier right up to him, hes like <:(((((((((((((((((((

  • I don't know about you guys, but the more I watch that thing, the more I want to eat it. It looks like a lobster. I wonder how long it would take to cook?

  • What does that puple spell do?

  • @Dudex225

It creates a shield, if you mean those little things floating around me. The other spell is a magickal attack.

  • i use the five-point magick attack spell most often...there seems to be just enough time to do it. but i actually never heard any of the black guardians talk; that's how fast i beat them. this is the first time.

    |the kid|

  • you didn't need to get that close..

  • why did you not use the seven point attack spell for the first to rounds

  • @bringmethehorizon12

You already know the answer to that question: I didn't know.

  • lol, took me awhile to beat this thing too....

  • IF I AM TO GUARD THIS PLACE, THEN I WILL DO IT, AS I SEE FIT IT! BEGONE!! LEAVE ME, AND I WILL GUARD THE ARTIFACT, AS YOU HAVE IN-STRUCTED!!! (Poor Paul, wtf I still remember this black guardian quote, even though I honestly haven't watched this cut scene for the last 7 years... I guess it left an impression

  • Mantorok was worshipped as a fertility god but is known as the God of corpses. His element is Chaos and order.

  • so the black guardian can be an avatar of either one of the ancients?

  • only chattur´gha and xel´lotath

  • why do the black gardians look like the gods?

  • ...why wouldn't they?

  • Actually I found the guardians design more intimidating than the Anciens.

  • Going insane couldn't be more fun :P

I remember playing for the first time, and after I stopped everything seemed to be tilted slightly.

  • Epic music.

  • Not only does the music rock during this battle, but the boss is fun to fight.

  • Eternal Darkness is a kick-ass game! The voice acting and the feeling that you're being told stories in all kinds if time is just awesome! =D

  • How did u get him to talk twice? Does it work on the other two guardians?

  • Just keep shooting.

  • is it just me or does Chattur'gha kind of remind you guys of King Dodongo from Oot?

  • This game is a classic. Ok the graphics and everything aren't that great, but the game in itself is excellent. Play it before you knock it please.

  • You should do stand-up. You need to work on the punchlines. I can't speak for Alone in the Dark, but I will: ED blows each and every one of those out of the water. You wouldn't understand unless you actually played it.

Actually, the earlier Alone in the Dark games probably compare in some sense, since they are Lovecraftian as well.

  • And why are you playing with infinite magic, sanity, and health? >_>. I think you also have infinite bullets as otherwise you probably wouldn't finish with guns. During my 4 play throughs, I almost always used melee weapons cause I was too greedy to waste bullets D;

  • I hadn't played the game in a long time when I recorded this. I know how to fight them. Anyway, I am playing through on Eternal mode or whatever, because my objective was to record. Also, I don't think whatshisname has any melee weapons.

  • Peter has a gun if i recall...

  • if u go upstairs in the chapel place u get the sword from anthony an the biship guy well what thye used lol

  • actually if you would have when in the old tower, if i remember right, there is the two handed sword there, and his name in Edward Jacob i think, but don't remember

  • Yeah, I can't remember if you can get it with him though. In any case, it wouldn't help in this battle.

  • If i recall it's the monk who can get the two-handed sword but your pretty much correct

  • if you find the sword as andrew,

then you can fight him for it as th monk

and if you kill him as the monk, youll be able to find it in the old tower as peter

it makes the game alot easier than just useing the guns.

  • It's been a while since i had the game so i had actually forgotten

  • You mean Anthony, not Andrew.

  • You have no idea how to fight it do you D:. The first time it took melike three hours without making absolutely any prohress. You HAVE to stay far away from it (as in in the hallway iteself and not anywhere withint its melee range) itherwise it will attack you forever and not go into its vulnerable state :P.

  • greatest game ever...

  • YOU BORE ME FLESH AND BONE

  • Mantorok's spells have an alternate effect than Chattur'gha's, Xel'lotath's, and Ulyaoth's. His Shield is offensive (it attacks any enemy that gets near, for a piece) and it blocks sanity damage (in the same way). Mantorok's dispel dispels all kinds of magic, and damages all kinds of creatures as if their weakness was being used against them. Enchanting a weapon causes the striking weapon to do damage over time after the initial attack. Recover heals Sanity and Health, and Pool heals all 3 stats

  • Omg i just realized that that thing looks like "Jeffrey" from Men In Black only he grew lobster claws

  • You can make a seven points spell rite after the third zombie appears its easier since the zombies die too.

  • it's a....ITS A GIANT LOBSTER GET THE BIGGEST RUBBER BANDS!!!:0

  • you know if you use Mantarok's pool spell you can have steadily recovering magic, sanity, and health, so you will have no need for shields or anything else.

  • I have infinite magic, sanity, and health anyway. The shields are still helpful to counter knockback.

  • @galdon2004 mantorok is the shit.

  • That boss was solid, but well worth the kill!

  • I had some gripes about the magic system, mostly the way that scaling up to more powerful spells just added more of the 'power' rune.

The game seemed to get easy towards the middle and end, but then again, it's a psychological game more than an action adventure.

Also, if you can get in the more powerful attack spell on the boss, you don't have to hit him quite so often.

  • I think Chatturgha's path is the game's hard mode. All the enemies seem to take more hits, and do more damage. Xelo'tath is the easiest.

  • Haha it's so easy I have completed the game like thirty times now :P. But it's still is so cool. I like Edwards story.

  • I always loved Peter's story in the game. Theres something very interesting and inspiring to see a human like Peter defeating a higher God. Its like - wow. Nice story, btw. Two sacrifices in the past to make someone in the future live. Inspiring. ^_^

  • I didn't know that you could get a Mantorok rune, I have only beat it with Xelototh, do you have to play other alignments to get the Mantorok rune?

  • no, you get it as lindsey if you backtrack through the level a bit when you have all the runes for summon trapper :)

  • thank you! what are the benefits of the rune?

  • I think it works well aganst all the other gods. Mantorok was the one keeping them supressed afterall!

  • Holy crap! :O The Black Guardian of Xel'lotath is a lot easier to defeat!

  • Why do you do all this finishing?

The game is much more fun, if you allways play at low sanity because the halucinations are the best part of it.

btw: Sanity doesn't matter anyway whith the boss^^

  • i always play with the lowest sanity i can, makes it alot more fun. I think i've witnessed every possible hallucination available

  • so that's how you kill the guardian... wow!

  • Just summon a trapper and let him go trough the small hole In the room behind the wall there will be a thing that you have to stand on with the trapper.

  • Sorry, that stupid youtube wouldnt let me post it in one piece!

  • And Crissangelfallman,if you want to know where to get the mantorok rune, you can find it when your playing with edward linsey. The will be a hole in the wall that was protected by the magic schield.

  • If you do that the wall will explode(there are 2 big monsters in there but i forgot there names)and you can go to the switch. You will see a spiderweb, just use your brush and voila! You got the mantorok rune.

  • I'm stuck at this boss right now, and really, I'm giving up on him. x_x I can't hit him when he's summoning the zombies, when he's doing that red shining thing I try to do the Magick attack of five or seven spell, but it hits everyone except the monster itself.

Anyways, good video you got there, but I'm already losing it aganist him lol xD

  • The guy below said that you should charge the 7 point spell as soon as he starts summoning zombies. Either that or you use a 3 point spell just before he flashes.

  • Yeah, apparently that worked, after the third zombie was summoned, I started the 7-spell and it damaged it right on time. :P

    Kudos to elgato xD

  • The game Eternal darkness sanity's requim is easy to beat.I already did it 3 times in different aglintements and now i have got the jump to game mode and the eternal mode.

  • I almost forgot that the Guardian laughs at you if you try and shoot it...

  • Dude I love eternal darkness OMG OMG OMG OMG ZOMG

  • At 3: 20 did you use the Mantarok Rune for that shield spell? I didn't get the Mantarok Rune, so can you tell me if I can still beat the game??

  • All of my spells are using the Mantorok rune, but you don't need it to beat the game.

  • Ok, thnks. I just beat the Xel'lotath Black Guardian, (1st time through) so I really wanted to know. Thnks.

  • A little hint: when these creatures, god-like guardians, start summoning those mummies; try to use a seven-spell attack. Because this spell takes time to charge, it will hit the guardian right when he changes color. It's easy to kill him if you do that. You should have the seven-spell stone, or whatever it's called, by now.

  • OK, appreciate it. It took me a while to see what triggered the vulnerability.

  • I play on invisible and fully shielded too.The first black guardian I fought was Xel'lotath's.I must have beaten this game over 10 times no exagerations. Its always still so interesting, this is the best game of all time.

  • I love playing this game with a minimum sanity meter! XD very trippy! LOL

  • this is one of my all time favorite games.nice to see someone else played it. no one i knew touched it.

  • I remember reading an official statement of Nintendo saying that E.D. was not that successful that a sequel would make any sense to them. I was quite outraged coz it's again a money-problem which sets an end to this unique story. Thanks for the Lovecraft hint, I never heard of him before. I've just checked the web - is there any special book you could recommend?

  • Why don't we start up a petition? ;)

They should create a sequel, shouldn't they? If you complete the game with all three "gods", there is this final ending movie. It's an open end and didn't they say something like: Now only Mantorok is left, alone in the depths of his tomb, slowly dying - waiting for his chance to have his revenge on humanity?

It's such a great story, someday there really should be a second part of it.

  • Well, the names make a lot of sense to me, i.e. they are easy to remember. The -aoth ending is common for me.

Anyway, Denis is working on Too Human now, but he has expressed desire in making a sequel. Making a petition won't do much until Too Human is over though. In the interim, you could just read some more Lovecraft.

  • Mantorok is never hinted to have anything against humans. If it wanted to it probably could have wiped humanity out long before the 3 other Ancients ever made any plans to escape.

  • Um, apparently you didnt beat all 3 demons and watch the end scene.

  • I did see that. It Mantorok was that it was "plotting".

  • ...okay...so how is that not an implication that mantorak will be a future villain? It seems clear as day to me.

  • Considering how unpredictable this game's plot is, I don't want to make any quick assumptions.

  • @inevergetit I dunno. Mantorok always seemed like a pretty swell guy to me. He was good to the people who worshiped him, kept the other three Ancients in check (for a time), and saved the world by guiding the game's characters to defeat Pious and the three Ancients. Every time someone died in his service, he memorialized them in his shrine...highly doubt that Chat, Xel, or Uly would've even shed a tear for Pious.

  • @Zyxxs yeah but the special ending cutscene totally paints a different picture. Every "swell" thing Mantorok did also benefitted himself. He had to use the Roivas' family as well as others to survive the other three ancients. I think it's safe to say there was another motive within it all.

  • Actually, wasn't it said somewhere in the game that Mantorok was a god of fertility?

  • I don't remember hearing that.

  • No, it didn't state that specifically, but there was the mural that showed what looked like Mantaroks tentacles and the text when you examine it says something about it being considered a god of fertility by the natives (or something liek that, it's been years).

  • I believe mantorok was the god of chaos and corpses.

  • it was the fertility god for the khmer people, than pious came and fucked up his reputation, thats what happens in the game.

  • Not bad, dude. Surely, you can beat the Guardians much faster using the larger spells. I remember you had to hurt him three times on each level with a 3-spell or so. Using the 7-spell wisely, you can get his giant ass kicked within just a minute.

Concerning the voices: Ulyaouth (did I spell it correctly now?) is the best one, I think.

  • I don't think speel size matters, you just have to hit them 3 times. And it's Ulyaoth.

  • Cheers, I knew it. Ah, why did they have to choose THESE names at all? Sure, they sound pretty nice, but spelling them...!

And to stick to my theory (in fact, I've just tested it an hour ago to check it out): I used the free chapter selection menu to get to the guardian and indeed, after a few critical hits of the 7-size spell, he was history ;)

  • how do u get the purple thing?

  • Mantorok's rune is in Lindsey's chapter A Journey into Darkness. You have to go around and dispel the magicks in corner rooms around the temple, and then use a Trapper to get in to a hole behind a wall in a hallway. It's self explanatory from there.

  • Could you do videos of the other black guardian battles?

  • Alright, I'll get to it later this week.

  • i have a liking for cha tutaga the way his voice sounds when the spells are dsaid brrr sounds so cool lol

  • I've waiting long time for this video and I can say 2 things. 1. The video is COOL, GREAT, WONDERFUL, EXCELLENT. 2. I don't knew that you can do Mantorok's spells, the voice is AMAZING.

  • Oh well, I'm glad you liked it. My personal favorite is Xel'lotath when doing spells.
