Never liked paul when first shown,still dont like him,the thought that hector would have been unfaithful to molly is just so wrong,he adored molly.Molly as well would never have got involved with andrew or golly as she does later,she would would have felt like she was betraying hectors memory.
Hector wasn't unfaithful though. Molly had left him and had gone back to London when Hector met Paul's mother and had a brief relationship with her. Molly came back to Glenbogle afterwards and then she and Hector got married.
Paul is totally clueless about life in the Highlands. Why did he ever bother living there if he isn't willing to consider the traditions of his father.
The director wanted to portray Paul's persona as a complete stranger to the subtle ways of Highland Culture.
