I think Tite Bond I or II would work well and could be cleaned as glue oozes out of edges. The poly type glues are strong, maybe overkill for this app. And it is messy but can be wiped while still wet with isopropal. Maybe test this on something other than guitar to make sure. It does take a good amount to "cut" the glue, but can be done. Also suggest trimming the clamp board a little smaller, to allow access to clean up. Of course hindsite is always 20/20. Good idea of clamp method though.
