@USSpecOps93 100%. But I had mine chambered for .308, at the ranges that we work at (< 750m) 168gr BTHP .308 is perfect. For longer I'd agree with ya on a .300 win mag. Get a Nightforce scope, the best, but expensive. Col Chandler is a good man and makes a quality product, it won't let you down brother
Don't you think it's a little misleading to call it an "M40"-anything? Nothing's an "M40" until the military adopts it and designates it "The M40..." To date, there is no M40A6. There are EXPERIMENTAL USMC rifles being unnoficially dubbed "The M40A5", but so far the currently newest USMC sniper rifle is the M40A3 with either the old Unertal or newer Schmidt and Bender scope.
Ha, well you would lose that bet... I have shot a lot and I mean a lot of firearms and nothing in the 308 class that I have handled past bench guns does anything any better.
Well that has a lot to do with the muzzle break on the end, directing a lot of the discharge energy and noise angled back toward the shooter. Break guns are always very loud compared to a normal barrel setup because of this factor.
But the reduced energy of kick and muzzle walk is well worth the sacrifice for fast followups and keeping on target.
Actually I think its more a reference toward the stock option.
As far as I know, all the barrels on IBA rifles are bulled like this one.
But I am no professional on the topic of name designations. However when my friend ordered the rifle, he showed me several of the other models and this was the only thing I could see that differed.
Yeah, I can't wait till my friend gets to come home for a while so we can make another vid.
As grateful as I am, this was never intended to make front page news on IBA's site, as it was just a test vid I threw together to see how things would look before making a final copy. The next one will definitely be more intense, and will show targets at range in detail using an HD camcorder. It will then be worthy of front page posting I promise!
Col. Norm, Jack McMillan and especially Odle Wood taught me how to get behind a 700. I will always be grateful and in their debt. I wish Iron Brigade had time to tune my 700 to a higher spec, maybe one day.
Terrific video. I own an IBA Precision rifle. It regularly shoots 1/2 M.O.A. groups. It the finest rifle I have ever, or will ever, own. My grandchildren will be shooting it long after I am gone. Thank you Norm and the IBA gunsmiths!
I know what you mean. Its by far the finest rifle I have ever had the opportunity to shoot.
Once at the firing range my buddy brought this rifle out to knock down a few targets. A bunch of other guys where shooting their high powered 300s. When they where done shooting a decent group at 300 yards, my buddy ask them if they where done with the target. When they said sure, he shot off all 4 clothes pins holding the target with 4 shots.
The guys watching took a hard look at the rifle at this point.

1) Hold your breath.
2) Copy all of these steps.
3) Go to two other videos.
4) Paste it in the comments.
If you can do all of this without breathing you're a good pot smoker :]

i've noticed that very few rifles have as large a barrel profile as the m40.
anyone know why the barrel profile of the m40 is so massive?
rustyoneone 1 year ago
@rustyoneone
Its because a standard equipped M40 is a "bull barreled" M700 Just like the one in the video.

I was thinking of ordering the Chandler Custom M40 but with an A5 stock and in either .338 Lapua or .300 winchester. Would you recommend it?

Absolutely if the pocket can afford it you won't find a better rifle anywhere else.

If your one of those politically correct people, I suppose so.
However not that it makes any difference toward your reasoning, IBA professionals are prior Marine gun smiths to my understanding.
I say if they can make a rifle as nice as this one, then they can call it anything they want.

@ktphotog39 Why do you have to do so stupid.
This dude is reliving his childhood dreams and you go spoil it for him.
Just get a job so you can pay one too.

Ha, yeah it would be that. But its intention is geared more toward people I am afraid.
Hope he never has to use it for that, but should a time call, this thing will deliver.

Making the front page of
"death from afar (.) com"
is stellar!
Just so all of you viewing this vid know, my buddy shown shooting the rifle is now serving in iraq, so wish him luck and keep him in your prayers.
