This is such an awesome video! I was accepted into medical school for the 2012 cycle and hearing your stories makes me nervous yet reassured at the same time. It is so great you all took the time to do this for students intereseted in a health career. Again, I (and many of my friends what watched it) are so grateful and loved this video. It was motivating, inspirational, and great to know we are not in it alone. Thank you!
@Micael326 Your limited size brain also missed the main point of my original comment. I DONT CARE WHAT RELIGION IF ANY YOU ARE, BUT TO CRITICIZE THE VIDEO OR THE SCHOOL FOR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS IS IDIOTIC. whatever one chooses to believe is not the issue here, you being a moron is.
It's sad how some of the people that commented on this video can't be respectful that LLU is a Christian university and the people in this documentary are Christians.
I love this film. Anyone have more to suggest similar to this? It definitely gave me a sense of excitement about what expectations to have after hardwork.
God bless this documentary, its helped me alot understand how med school would be like when i apply to one, since im only in the 11th grade i have high hopes for it
@renascut7 Wow, way to fill the stereotype right down to the period. Did you also know that nearly 50% of all religious americans believe that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old?
Then again, xenophobia coming from a religious American should not be so surprising.
@mrkosilathi Remember that scene from Hancock when he saves Ray from a passing train by simply stopping it with his bare hands? Remember when everybody is yelling at him because he simply did not lift his car up? And, finally, remember when he's just smiling and nodding his head basically letting them take swings at him because they're insects compared to him and cannot possibly understand how he thinks?
How do the religious aspects ruin the video??? Your getting an inside look into medical school and make no mistake, LLU is on par with any given SOM in the country. They take the same boards and have students that match into highly competitive and prestigious residency programs.
Loved this video ! So well done, and inspiring. At 42 yoa and an Army Combat Medic, I've found my second calling. Can't say enough about Loma Linda's time, effort and thought that went into this video. You guys kept God in it, and he is the great Physician. Eternal thanks!
Fantastic. I'm a junior in highschool, spent 8 hours volunteering at Barnes Jewish Hospital shadowing doctors and helping them with patients.. @Ipikop What did you expect? It a religious school. Thats like going to a movie theater and being shocked when you see a movie being played. Stop being ignorant.
@Ipikop You should have known Loma Linda is religious and a Christian School. Go back in your hole . Don't be ignorant, do research, don't "assume". Ya... Thats what i thought. Thanks and BYE. Dont bother replying ...unless you have NOTHING to do except argue over a computer screen :-)
@Ipikop Haha yes, because religious "slant" has definitely made aspiring doctors worse... Take Dr. Ben Carson for example, he was an SDA during med school and he turned out to be an awful doctor, I mean pretty much anyone could separate conjoined twins, especially those with completely fused heads!
I'm 3 weeks away from the end of 1st year barrier exam in medical school and am starting to burn out a little bit, but this video perked me up and really put things in perspective for me. Thank you thank you for providing that extra bit of inspiration to get me over the line.
Hello everyone. I can't believe that 35 minutes has past. I really enjoyed the video and I was smiling all the time. It gave me huge inspiration. I'd like to thank you all of you students who were describe the feelings. Especially the married couple!
Dear god medical school in Great Britain is so different, my tutor who started yesterday told me that in a class of one-hundred and fifty only THREE students are white British
GREAT video. I'm a 4th year and I've been going back thinking about the past 3 years of medical school. It's amazing to see the growth and change you go through in medical school from 1st year orientation to Match Day and graduation. This video is very very accurate describing each year of med school.
@AlanDavay you are not forced to believe them. this documentary shows them, and they choose to show their faith. it has nothing to do with what you want to do. :)
@IvanTheHealer Yeah, that's very true! I wished I had watched the whole thing before I posted, because for some reason, I thought that clients had to be religious to be treated. Out of curiosity, how do people interwine medicine and religion together? It has always sort of baffled me when people endorse science AND religion simultaneously... because so many people see bad things happen in medical school / nursing school...where is God providing protection, you know what I mean?
@AlanDavay hmm...its interesting that you see it that way. most of the time (all the time) medical school only spurs excitement for the faithful about how God is amazing and created such a complex, extraordinary system.
it in no way pushes them to doubt their faith. One billion people starve for months without food/water, millions of children. you can ask, what is God doing then? there is an answer.
@IvanTheHealer Where is the answer? Nobody has given me an answer yet, for many of my christian friends believe strongly in god. Which is fine... but all the time, I am thinking... where is god to protect those in need against the corrupt people or things in the world? Yes people do bad things and the innocent get hurt, but where is god to prevent such situations? We could go on and on about religion. All the religious people I chat with, I still can't orientate the logic of God.
@AlanDavay God protects those who believe and serve him. he most certainty does not protect other people as much as he does those who are faithful to him. Why should he? But the protection of God is everywhere. if you go to medical school, you will be amazed how we survive, some parts of our body are so fragile, in a blink of an eye we can die if a couple of molecules get to the wrong place. God is not obligated to shield everyone from all bad things. people make decisions, they have free will.
@IvanTheHealer If God was to have punished japan he would not be a just god. God is pure, good and understanding he would not take away life just because it did not belive in him. He loves us to much and know we can change. By saying God punished japan you make god look mean and like a tyrant.
.its not all about rainbows and happiness. "God is pure, good and understanding." he is also JUST, and wants people to believe in Jesus to be saved. God didnt cause the earthquake, he lifted his protection that prevents bad things from happening. God speaks to nations through problems, like he did throughout the bible. you see, God doesn't take away life, he removes protection. Like he removed protection from the children of Job and his estate, everything got destroyed and all the children died
@AlanDavay but if you really really want to know, you should read the bible, like one part of it first, like Matthew. start with the new testament and finish with the old testament. if you have time try it, it might help you orientate the logic of God.
@AlanDavay Whatever we know of the God of the Scriptures (the Bible) is revealed in the Bible. the Bible truly is a very logical book consisting of pretty much a story of humanity and God's relationship to manking and how mankind has responded to their creator over thousands of the years, it also depicts the rise and fall of empires.
Christianity isn't merely a system of thinking but a way to explain life. everything in the universe isnt made randomly with purpose.
@AlanDavay We believe that God made us with a purpose - to be fruitful, multiply, worship Him, and tell others of this. however as much as we may believe that there isn't a tangible way to prove that God exists except through reasoning arguments, and comparing what the Bible says with what is happening in the world. Belief in the God of the Bible or any religion requires faith. (Belief in evolution requires faith too since it takes leaps and bounds to try and explain the origin of life)
wow...I would love to study here lol...In South Africa, you have 6 years at school, then 2 years internship and then 2 years comm serve (community service)!...toat of 10 years and I'm in 2nd year! Long way to go! lol:) I'll graduate at 23 though...YAY! So I'll be a doctor by 23!
2:40, is he suggesting that pathological processes in vivo are secondary to "sin"? When faith and science become entangled, silly statements like that aren't too far off.
I just turned 18 and will start medical school in 3 weeks. I live in England so the experience will not be identical but this video has given me a better idea of what to expect, in 5 years time i will graduate as a doctor and there will be a lot I need to learn and experience. I hope to be able to look back and know it was all worth it and to make a real difference.
@TheCoffeeNut711 No, you sit the UKCAT and apply to university for medicine (which in england is 5 years) and then you have two foundation years as a junior doctor. I am not sure what age you graduate in america but here it will be 23 for me. I think it must work out similar in america??
@cookieandcream1 um no not even close. closest age to start med school is 22. 4 years of med, 1-7 years of residency depending on specialty and 2-3 years on THAT SPEACIALTY. oh yeah thats the US
@TheCoffeeNut711 wow i guess that is different but i was not including residency and specialty training in the 5 years that will be extra even in the uk haha
I love these kind of videos, it gives you a real look of what med school is like, most videos on youtube is just acting and playing around am happy to see what it is really like!
This video is a inspiration to me, when i feel like giving up my dreams of being a doctor, i will just come back to this video and watch it!! yess medical school is hard but nothing in life is easy, just know that it will be worth it at the end. By the way i am 17 years old and this is my dream career :)
This is truly an inspiration! I am 17 years old and I am going into my junior year in a few days, and I am realizing that I truly want to be a doctor. Im taking Ap bio and Physics this year! I hope that I can make it! Thanks so much for this video!
watching this sorta stuff makes me worried that im a 4th year medical student.. years 1-3 i partied, and breakdanced much more than i ever even remotley went near a book :S not quite so sure how i passed lol
Very informative, was a pleasure to watch. :)
