  • actually it would be smart to do change strings one at a time because the truss rod is always applying counter pressure against the strings. When you take them all off at once, the rod is bending the neck and it is as if you tightened the rod a whole turn! it wont kill your guitar, but i know i like to treat my instruments as best as possible.

  • 188188 viewer ;p

  • thanks for the video man....I've restringed my guitar but had no idea for hours how to lower the bridge down heheh...you helped me big deal..peace :D

  • I only know that if I break a string attached to a Floyd Rose, I can still use the string, cuz the Floyd Rose doesn't need the ring of the string.

  • Never string your guitar one string at a time. When stringing I like to run my strings thru the tuning machine tight then back it of an inch. That way the string will wrap around 3 or 4 times. On a Floyd you should do that before you put the nut back on, and tune flat.

  • no its not time to rock yet

my guitar's intornation needs to be set :(

  • hey I see this is Licensed Tremolo

Is it usually not in tune? thanks

  • Does the kind of string matter, can you have a regular or super slinky pack of strings to use or do you need the heavy duty kind?

  • Is that James Gang?

  • ive been trying to fix my brindge so its parallel with the body for hours but can fix it with the tuning and the bridge getting prallel

  • Hey uploader great vid, and cool name - Mustardeth!

  • Almost perfect....just change the string one at a time!

  • So I went for the whole "4-5 wraps around the peg" and my D string snapped. Thanks a lot, asshole. Don't follow this tutorial, people.

  • @Spunkalish dude that just means you didnt give it enough slack

  • @clitmastapoopyvagina Yeah I ended up figuring that out eventually. My apologies for the outburst.

  • I only got like 1 wrap around the tuning peg. Does it make much difference?

  • @Spunkalish in fact i believe the least wraps the better. less slack, easier to keep in tune even without a floyd

  • Simple, quick and well done, nice tutorial, thank you :D

  • the clamps on the nut are so important? because they are not on my guitar and sounds perfect, so I want to know the purpose of these

  • You princesses worrying about your neck magically bending if you take the strings off at the same time have no idea how hard maple is. You could hit baseballs out of the park with that neck all day and it would still be straight as a ruler. HTFU!

  • what about the intonation :(

  • thank you so much for making this video you saved my life.

  • Attempting to calculate number of frets at 1:04 ...

  • You lieing bastard that was a new rag!!!

  • Pro tip: 1:04

  • When wiping down would an old shirt qualify as an old rag lol? also would you use fretboard polish or cleaner?

  • Ha i have had a Epiphone Future for about 6 months now and couldn't tune the guitar for life within me so i just left it on the side xD so time to make the money worth and im going to try and tune it soon, thanks for the vid

  • I don't see how taking all the strings off at once can hurt the guitar.

  • this has just put me off getting a floyd rose style tremolo... fuck

  • @jibbie001 He is wrong you do one string at a time, they are really easy to do i just restrung my floyd in 30 minutes and it was my second time doing so, all you need to do if you buy one is get it setup in a specific tuning.

  • Someone is trying to destroy people's guitars. You don't take all the strings off at once!!!!!!!

  • @crowhbc No I'm not. Doing this hasn't destroyed my guitar. It's just personal preference and takes more time to adjust the level of the bridge afterwards. It doesn't destroy hard tail guitars when you take off all of the strings so it doesn't make a difference unless you don't mind fooling around with the bridge after. Also, if you have a floating trem you can stick an eraser underneath the trem to keep it level with the body while changing strings.

  • @mustardeth common sense really. think about the tension that the guitar neck is supposed to deal with. damage will happen in the long term if you continuously relieve and reapply this tension. But whatever if you want your neck to bow thats up to you.

  • @legewright I've had this guitar for 4+ years with no neck issues besides needing new frets.

  • @legewright I hear what your saying about neck tension when removing all strings.....but most FR's allow you to "dive bomb" to the point that there's little to no tension on the strings then in a fraction of a second your putting all the tension back at once as you release. Isnt that the same thing but infinitely worse because your removing and reapplying tension so quick, not to mention over and over? Wouldnt people like EVH constantly be bowing and warping necks?

  • @legewright This only happens if you leave the guitar for a long time without strings. Otherwise, every neck needs adjustments from time to time as it is only natural for wood to flex a little bit.

  • @legewright what do you think you are doing when you use the floyd???? besides if you put the strings right back on and DON"T LEAVE THE GUITAR SET long enough it could experience a humity level change, wich can be overnight in some climates, you won't hurt it there are so many guitar repairs/ changes that require string removal to blame a style of string changing on what most likely is ageing/curing wood is not accurate.

  • @legewright That's utter bullshit. The neck can easily take the change in tension. That's a common misconception.

  • @mustardeth so, if I relae all the strings, the bridge will get ''soft'' and I will have to adjust it later?

  • @mustardeth No its not good to do all at once , should do 1 by 1 and it will spare a major headache.

  • @crowhbc thanks dude, couldnt figure out for weeks

  • fuck, i just changed the strings on my dean from hell (floyd rose) for the first time, i took of all the strings at the same time, now my whammy bar sticks right out, fml.

  • @crunkycocky Hey dude i have a dfh as well, i did the same thing you did, i had a broken string and i didn't change that one i change the low e string and i fucked it up completely. What you need to do is take it to a guitar mechanic and he will fix it for you, if you look at my vids i do dive bombs and never go out of tune, its pretty easy to change the strings to i just changed them for the second time and it took me 30 minutes.

  • LOL, Your guitar isnt even intonated!

  • Does this apply to the Ibanez Edge too?

  • @AJD7DC any Floyd rose, so yes

  • @JamesOnPiano Pretty much nothing. The floyd rose is designed for lighter strings.

    I'm pushing it using 10-46's.

You're just going to have to start using lighter strings, or so I've read.

  • Don't forget to stretch the strings eh!

  • hi ive wasted 2 sets of strings trying to change them, and its my first floyd rose floating trem thingie. everytime i change the strings and tune them up to around the correct tuning range, i realise the trem has snook upwards and it is ridiculously angled towards the bridge. do you know why this is and how to change it? Im guessing it is something do do with these fine tuners and they need adjusting, but like.. how do i know when theyre set at a good level? sorry for my low guitar IQ. thanks

  • @7thS0Nofa7thS0N take off the black cover on the back of the guitar, the biggest one. under there, you will find the trem springs. if your trem is floating up or down, tighten or loosen the screws on the trem spring until the trem is straight. I find this the biggest pain in the ass when you deal with floyds, but once you got it down, its easy and second nature.

  • great vid thx

  • i do what you tell me to do but when im tuning it the strings just pop right out of the bridge! mainly happens on the top E string :/

  • Thanks for the help and well illustrated. I'm stringing my Rich Bich now. just seeing the bridge drop in after made me think to make sure im doing it right. Thanks

  • hey. Can anyone help. When undoing one of the saddles. The unit 'popped' down....does anyone know why and how I can fix it?

    Any info appreciated

  • when you see a floyd rose system you think that it's hard to change the strings but is not the hardest thing of the world.

  • Is there some object I can use to keep Floating Tremolo up? A buddy of mine suggested I use a battery or something around that size.

  • @brianvaughn21 9V battery works i guess

  • @brianvaughn21 A few years back I bought an elastic capo. Its a shitty capo, but it has a rubber piece on it that works perfectly on the flyod rose. And its not super hard on the guitar.

  • I got my Ibanez yesterday and the e string broke withing a couple hours. When I went to change the strings, THE FUCKING SCREWS THAT HOLD THE STRING IN THE BRIDGE WERE STRIPPED!!!

  • Probably should of watched this before I took mine and snapped the D string because I had no idea of how to tune a floyd rose tremolo -.-

  • @AlongTheHorizonLine omg ikr i did that today actually like an hour ago

  • or watch FLOATING TREM STRING CHANGE w/STEVE BRAND by ovrdrvn he shows how with a trem block (the piece of wood is used)

  • watch HOW TO CHANGE GUITAR STRINGS ON A FLOYD ROSE BRIDGE PART 1-4. by rockguitarpower. One of the first things he says is never take them off at once, always do one string at a time for floyds. hope this helps

  • i , personally , would not do this method, especially if a beginner. start with turning tuning keys on the trem bridge to half way. Then starting with low e string, remove it on both ends, cut ball off new low e string and thread through the trem and down the neck to the peg, tighten and tune the best you can at that moment. do the remaining 5 strings the same way, ONE AT A TIME, and tuning them after every one that you do ONE AT A TIME. this saves the tension in the trem springs.

  • THANK YOU!!!! Finally... I found the right model online. I needed a closeup of the screws that hold the entire bridge in place and discovered I wasn't crazy: some gnat's ass had replaced the original screws with two having smaller heads so the whole f'ing business was popping out of the guitar. Thank you... problem solved. Need new part! EASY!

  • 3:31 ñiii waak your penis!

  • best tutorial on youtube.

bout to do my first FLoyd rose string change..feel alot confident after watching this

  • yeah...think im sticking to my fixed bridge :P...

kidding, well, anyway, i thought it could be a problem to take out all the strings at once when restringing a floyd rose brige?

  • I never lock down the locking nuts for at least a week of playing, for the strings to settle..and to keep the trem level, place a 9-volt battery in that empty space under the bridge..its a perfect fit!

  • SEEMS LIKE A BITCH TO DO THIS COMPARED TO STANDARD BRIDGES BUT ITS WORTH IT CAUSE THE FLOYD ROSE IS EPIC.

  • You sir, should be knighted for this video.

  • why am i watching this i have a les paul!!!

  • AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO ONLY TAKE OFF THE STRINGS ONE AT A TIME?!

  • @LehmannDaHero yeah dont take them all off

  • @LehmannDaHero You dont have too, i learned to take em all off, it really doesnt harm the guitar at all its just a bit harder to tune. The best way to tune a floyd rose is to tune the E string, then the A string, then the E string again, then the A string again, then the D string, the the A string then the D string again, etc. This ensures the bridge will not life as much

  • you don't necessarily have to cut the ball ends off as i found out you can just install the string backwards with the ball end at the tuning peg and it works as normal

  • @nuclear1250 That's an epic Idea... That way you don't gotta worry about the "locking method" at the tuning key when restringing.. Awesome Idea

  • @nuclear1250 I've done this as well, but I've also found that the top part of the string (the end without the ball end) isn't quite as strong and likes to unwind when you whammy.

  • I need strings that can bend smoothly and without any tug/pull. any ideas?

  • @race1717 Try D'adarrio .09 gauge. They're really nice for bending and whatnot cuz they're small

  • @race1717 get a lighter gauge, thats the FIRST place to start. 9's are about as light as you want though..any less and you're probably going to get a really breathy tone with no meat or muscle. Its gonna be really thin sounding and your volume is gonna be a bit lower too. Also if you go too light, you'll go out of tune a lot quicker and you'll have to compensate by having a MUCH lighter technique. Stay at 9s if you want less pull but still have tone and tuning.

  • i feel like a noob watching this

    ive played for 5 years

    first floyd rose

  • @kohit7 been playing for 7 :P

  • @kohit7

same ere XD only ive played for 6 years

  • @kohit7 dnt worry dude..your not alone hahaha. just got my first floyd ross!.. been playin for arnd 4years!

  • @kohit7 haha i know what you mean, my gf's dad had me restring his guitar and it was a floyd rose and i had no idea what to do and ive been playing for 7 years lol

  • @kohit7 haha me too dude

  • @kohit7 same lmao

  • @kohit7 I had the same exact feeling.. =/

  • @kohit7 I've played for 8 and same thing haha never knew how to do the bridge lol

  • @kohit7 Same here

  • @kohit7 Same here... i've played for 3 years and i wanted a guitar with Floyd Rose... now i'm starting to change my mind

  • @ciromanzar don't it will be the best decision of your life.

  • What Van Halen song is playing in the background and where can i get it.

  • @digadam it's called walk away and it's a cover of the James Gang song I found it on lime wire

  • casco18 and ZXSynysterXZ, im a guitar tech for a music store and have been doing it for a long time. i ALWAYS take off all of the strings. if you change the string gauge, then ya it will change but other than that, i have been perfectly fine through all these years.

  • @MrGuitarcollector5 some of us prefer our necks to not have to be readjusted, but you may not have to for some odd reason

  • i use DR's DBG

  • nice explorer, or is it a thunderbird?

  • dude you have way to many wraps on your wound strings. theres no need for that many winds. for one you have a locking nut there not going to move while playing. secondly you just dont need that many its pointless.

  • I was told by somebody to place enough post-it notes or other object underneath the bridge between it and the guitar body so it doesn't change the action when the string tention is released, something to think about ...

  • Ernie Ball hybrid slinky cool

  • thanks man, this vid really helped me!!

  • i bought an esp alexi 200 and im trying to tune it but the strigs keep popping out on the end i cut the ball off and if that doesnt happen the strings dont stay in tune at all!!What should i do?

  • @ktobias112233 cut the ball off but don't cut the wrap around wire close to the ball end. It helps the screw grip it. ;)

  • ? dude...

First off, don't take all the strings off at once.. Do one at a time... You can do them in a row, or you can do the low E, then high E, then A, then B, then D, then G.. however you want. And don't cut the balls off the string, just feed them backwards through the post, and leave yourself some extra string in case one breaks while your playing. One of the best attributes of a Floyd Rose is how easily you can fix a broken string during a show.., as opposed to a regular setup.

  • 3:37 is a bad ass pick haha

  • so what happens if the block things that keep the strings held get stuck...does that mean i tighten them to much?

  • @VAVELGreekMetal Ye, of course on some guitars you won´t notice any change, but is always a good recommendation don´t to take off all the strings at the same time, at least where I know Ibanez always has this advice in the Users manual....

  • you stealed my tuner...

  • how do i raise or lowen strings on a rose?

  • You need to keep some of the strings on otherwise you can't get to the string tighteners on the floyd as it sits back into the cavity if it's not under tension.

Also, you need to retune after adjusting the tension screws at the back of the guitar, until it is in tune and is flush to the guitar.

  • i put new strings on mine but it seems that when i went to hit the wammy a string just slipped out and i noticed the trem was a bit tight is there somthing i missed

  • @funnymanify the string holders on the bridge that you fix with an alan wrench are loose. you probably picked up the bridge to tighten it. there was no tension on the string, so it kinda flopped out as you tightened it. you either need to tighten it as much as you can without stripping the wrench or bolt, or you need to get a new string.

  • @linkinman48 thanks man also if i change the guage what will i need to do?

  • @funnymanify ehh...it shouldn't do much. just make sure you keep the bridge even with the body. the tension might be changed, but that'll just take a quick fix with the springs. just make sure to tighten everything down all the way, but not too much

  • @linkinman48 thanks dude

  • @funnymanify You need to open the plate behind your guitar then adjust the springs. or even remove one. Warning, you should always have at least two springs!

Sorry About My english, I speak French,

    Rock On Guys!

  • @XrhapsodyXx thanks man

  • Thanks now i can get my damn Ibanez out of Drop d-drop b. What a huge fucking mistake.

  • @Dethkill14 I made the same mistake with my jackson!

  • @MusicOfNickF I went through this strange Slipknot phase and decided to play some of their stuff. Then i figured out they basically bullshit with their guitar parts the entire time.

  • Great video only thing is its alot easier to take one string off at a time

  • @jesuspunk33 so u can put the string into the bridge, pay attention

  • ok i have a floyd rose and i can pull up on the bar as far as the bridge hitting the pad in the guitar and no strings break can some one tell me what that means????

  • seems like such a hassle its a good thing i never break strings but every few months ya kinda have to change em coz they get crappy ill probs just take mien to the shop to do it

  • SWEET!! I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SPEND 50 BUCKS AT THE SHOP XDD....not no more >:D

  • DAMN THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO HELPED A LOT ON PUTTING NEW STRINGS BACK ON MY IBANEZ RG5EX1. NOW I CAN START PLAYING IT AGAIN, ONCE AGAIN THANKS!!

  • Don't cut off the excess strings for at least a week or so, this way you know it'll stay on there, saving you a lot of trouble and frustration.

  • This song was played with a guitar with no Floyd Rose, in case anybody was wondering.

  • you shouldn't take all the strings off at once

cause that will like unlevel the bridge or something like that

  • I kinda want to put one on my Strat... but what a pain in the ass.

  • @DarthKazi don't, it's too much of fucking pain, not worth it unless you whammy bar the shit our of every song

  • @rockdfunk, also depends if it's a real strat :P.

  • @rockdfunk Dude I completely agree. Though sometimes you just want to go home and whammy a song so much it sounds like shit.

  • nice video, helps a lot, still going to have pros do it cause i know i'm gonna fuck it up some how.

  • I got a guitar a couple days back and it was in e standard with floyd rose set up. I didn not realised you cannot change the tuning on something like this without taking it to a pro(or so the guy who sold it me says) I tried to tune it to drop d and then realised there was some heavy buzzin. So i took it back to e standard but it still buzzes :S any help?

  • Thank you so much.

  • DUDE WALK AWAY IS BYE JOE WALSH

  • You will also need approximately 3 cases of beer.

  • i have a roadstar series 2 ibanez and i can't get it

  • what size allen wrench do i need. cause mine will simply not work

  • So i need to change just one string on my guitar, but while im at it i want to set it to drop C , so before i change the one string do i still set the fine tuners to the middle?

  • how do you unclamp the bridge?

  • you should be carefull with the screws on the back sometimes it can be, that the fretnote isnt more the same!!

  • aria guitars suck!!!

i had an aria xx-1 and after two days ive selled it on ebay!!

  • @axegrinder89

ive got the same thing and i think it isnt a problem

  • sukablianah - have you tried putting an extra spring on the bridge and make sure the screws are slightly loosened on the front of the bridge to allow movement. It worked when I had a similar problem, just a thought.

  • instead of cutting the balls from the strings, you can put em on backward with the ball through the tuners...makes winding easyer if you arnt using a winder also...

  • bs dude. jacksons are great floyd roses. they r mad flex. and easy to restring kuz of the flex

  • just another reason why not to buy a guitar with a floyd rose. sure looks easy. but try doing that on stage when u break a string, not gonna happen, be prepared and bring a backup guitar. break a string on that your screwed. i can change a string on my les paul in under minute. u could never do that on a guitar with a floyd rose no matter how good u are. nothing better than watching a crappy metal band break a string & stop the entire show for 15 minutes just to change 1 string on his ibanez.

  • @Butthouse dude , with a floyd you NEVER break a string. I once broke the string between the tuner and locknut ... that was a month ago and I still have that string not attached to the tuner + its still in tune. I also abuse the whammy bar and nothing ever happens. My floyd is a LICENSED Jackson jt580lp.

  • @JacksonShredder777 Not true i have one on my jackson and i always break my low E String .

  • @JacksonShredder777

lol my bottom E just dewound from abusing my flloyd :L annoyed now :(

  • Comment removed

  • @Butthouse

Yet another problem that you fail to realize, is that any skilled guitarist isn't going around breaking strings. If you do, then you shouldn't be touching a guitar at all. Secondly, it's not like you have to restring a guitar everyday. Once every 6 months for casual guitarists, and about half that for the people who play their guitar extensively.

  • mine 2

  • i cant make my bridge be parralell!! cause it just doesnt go down when i screw that shits in the back! it remains hight enough to make a bigger distance between the string and 12th fret! :(:::::

  • wow really but i cant say the same to you becuse your mom hase i dick sry maybe your dad hase a hanging sack vagina

  • hybrid slinkys are the best damn strings

  • really appreciate this...i used it to restring my guitar...thanks a lot :)

  • ok thanks for answering my questions guys, my bc rich is abit old now can i fit another bridge on it or am i stuck with this one?

  • lol,mustardeth.

  • hey wassup, i got a question. i have a bc rich warlock with just a normal bridge i was wondering is their anyway to change the bridge to a floyd rose??? thanks

  • There is a way to put a floyd rose tremelo on the guitar but it would take alot of work( routing of the body ect.) that is why i would not recomend doing this also it would cause problems. the risk is too big you could easaly damage your body to the point of no return. and it would require neck alterations or a c
