They could have just changed Mike Bison's name and left the others, but the morons at Capcom USA thought 'Vega' sounded better for a Spaniard's name (coincidentally, it does fit). The original final boss Vega (known as M. Bison in the West) was actually named after the star Vega (in the constellation Lyra) and had nothing to do with the common Spanish/Latin surname, Vega. Supposedly, they also felt that 'Vega' was a weak final boss name (but "Gill" and "Seth" apparently are...).
