  • RIP Ballard Berkeley, aka Major - legend of English tv, don't make them like him any more!

  • People have to understand as well this show is years and years old. back then saying racist comments on a tv show probley wouldnt have been such a big deal as they are now a days -___-!!!!

  • One of the funniest satires on racism ever shown on TV.

    RIP Ballard Berkley.

  • Why's everyone whining about PC-gone-mad-censorship etc, this was on cable really recently. People need to get their head out of the Daily Mail and into the real world.

  • It's a parody ON racism, and people are too stupid to appreciate it.

  • Whites are the least racist...

    /watch?v=InpDvWMXQ7U

  • Everytime my dad puts the cricket on and India are playing I always remember this xD

We always joke and say 'No no no Niggers are the West Indians, these people are wogs!' xD

  • haha he said nigger haha

  • God bless the Major!

  • MAJOR FOR PM !

  • Brilliant

  • I'm not racist but has anyone thought of using a remote to change sides or clicking on another video if you are offended by anything. Instead of crying to the goverment or start protesting the fact that this is politically incorrect. Personally i think this is funny but you dont have to be racist to enjoy this skit. Anyone that cant get that into there skulls are just people trying to get attention and get all the spotlight. Do it the right way like John did with hard work to give us great TV !!

  • Too bad that some can't see that the skit is actually ANTI-racist.

  • god you guys are dumb have you ever watched an interview with john cleese we wrote it to illustrate the type of racism that was around at the time and how crazy it was

its anti racist by showing how these views were only held by the older generation being major.

seriously john cleese is not gonna stoop to racism for his comedy he is a genius for gods sake

  • The bone heads who would ban this obviously don't realise the whole point of the scene was to poke fun at the generation of Britons represented by people like the Major who still had delusions of imperial superiority even though he is reduced to lodging at the world's worst hotel. BTW I'm Irish and I don't take offence at the 'Orilly men' stereotype of the thicko Oirish cowboy in The Builders episode. Grow up!

  • Splendid!!

  • And of course this is missing the punchline.....

Fawlty: "As I was saying, no capacity for logical thought."

    Major: "Who?"

    Fawlty: "Women."

Major: "Oh yes, yes.....I thought you meant Indians."

    :)

  • Of course it's not racist; it's precisely the kind of language that a character like the Major would use in the 1970s. He's a product of the prewar colonial era, and that's what Cleese is sending up. It's a genius line though; the Major's fastidiousness is perfectly observed, and beautifully played by Ballard Berkeley. As a sitcom, it will never be bettered.

  • Ah, the days when not everyone on the planet wasn't a victim, someone in need of an excuse for all their problems, and when people could see comedy for what it was and didn't phone the BBC and claim they are outraged and offended at a TV show they never actually watched, but read about 3 weeks later in the Daily Mail.

  • I'm not racist at all, hadn't seen this episode in years and had completely forgotten about that line. It came on TV the other day and I nearly wee'd myself. People need to seriously chill. If a fictional character like the major has certain qualities that some may find offensive, I see absolutely no reason why that shouldn't be exploited for the sake of comedy. In this context it should definitely not be taken seriously, as it seems to be taking the piss out of casual racism.

  • Yes what Episode is this from ?? Would love to see it in context but I fear the BBC wont replay this one LOL

  • @Kwales66 Episode 6 Season 1

Episode I laughed the most tbh, you got to see it somehow. Tv.com nominates it the best one with a score of 9.7, its outstanding!

  • Well Im far far from a Racist but I still find this VERY Funny

  • can you believe australians still say 'wog' as though its normal? most racist country in the world.

  • @quillber most epic

  • what episode is this from ?

  • @VoMuzara 'The Germans'

  • I agree with Danathema, it's funny because it's a mixture of a sweet old man and some ignorance. You don't have to be racist to enjoy it.

  • People just use the race card at any chance they can to try to get pity and a bit of limelight for themselves. I think people are getting wise to the same old "racists" accusations now. Its about bloody time too.

  • I abhor racism but this is realistic (and funny because of Ballard Berkley's brilliant delivery) because this is the way that a retired old major would have spoken then. He wouldn't have done it maliciously but because he didn't know any better.

  • @Danathema Agreed... Just like Archie Bunker in "All in The Family', it was the language of that generation. Even though what they were saying was wrong, they didn't know any better, or (in Archie Bunker's case) think it was wrong. Still classic though...

  • @claygar310 Wrong? He is proven right every day - case in point: v=kxM1WSWUmxs After seeing that, can honestly say it was "wrong"?

  • @v6v10 You're a moron. Saying a word does make you a racist.

  • @professorwankstrom

    *doesN'T

    Silly typo

  • & that is why this country is so crap , we cant ever put anything like this on the air anymore because it might " offend someone" , but come on it's piss funny ! , if you cant take the British's traditional "taboo humor" then feck off !

  • Hi rammsteinlad. I have just read probably the most intelligent thing I`ve ever read in YT. Well said, and spot on !

  • @rammsteinlad Fawlty Towers is played in almost constant rotation on TV Gold and the like. Whatever gave you the notion that it was banned?

  • @squealpiggy I expect he likes to think that we're not being allowed to see it, as many other commenters seem to...it gives them an opportunity to rant about how "PC" everything is & how the "do gooders" are "ruining everything"...makes a change for them from leaving comments on BNP videos.

  • @rammsteinlad Not true, Fawlty Towers is repeated regularly. There's only "Love Thy Neighbour" that is not broadcast for its extensive use of the N word.

You may not be offended by the word "Nigger", but others are...better to understand this & appreciate others concerns, than complain that you can no longer hear racist slurs on tv. Pity so many people lazily agree with you rather than think about what is being said & the impact it may have.

  • @DidloDurante The actual thing about Love Thy Neighbour is that Eddie Booth (white man) nearly always lost! Love thy neighbour showed equal amount of 'racism' towards whites as it did blacks if not more. They should broadcast it and the simple thing is not for the racism card cry babies to watch it if they are offended, but these people seem to sit there fine watching something that takes piss out of fat people or whatever. People need to take all them chips off their shoulders!

  • @irishcrusader99

I think there is a difference. Tto be honest, and being as polite as I can be, if you weren' t so , frankly, stupid, I wouldn't have to explain this to you. But are. So I do. The difference between calling someone a nigger and fat/ginger/speccy is that fat/ginger/speccy people have never been herded to their deaths and forced into slavery. If we lived in a world where 'fat slavery' had existed your comment would be valid. We don't. So it's crap. Having said that, this is funny

  • @MrSuttie You may find it is of a similar concept, it's still making fun of types of people. It's referring to someone in an offensive way. Overweight,or Ginger people have resorted to death due to name calling? If you're bringing slavery and death into this, then most type of races have been through slavery, mostly things that happened many years ago and have not really affected the generation of today. Might add that quite a lot of slaves were them being forced into it by their own races too

  • @MrSuttie Just to add, i'm not saying i don't sit there and laugh and makes an offensive joke about Blondes, obese, ginger, whatever kind of people, but it is double standards if someone can be perfectly fine with those type of jokes/puns and then go off the scale when someone makes fun of white/black/polish/irish jokes. What i'm getting at is that i'd like to see 'racial banter' being brought more to television, there is a difference between that and outright racial abuse. Different opinions tbh

  • @rammsteinlad And would you think that if you'd been called such names at school ?

  • @rammsteinlad here here well said old boy now where's my gin

  • @rammsteinlad Well said to much fucking PC shite now

  • if that was to be on the bbc today, the do gooders and over achievers would be in tears, they would be so offended i dont think they could go on,

  • @kelso120 IF THEY ARE OFFENDED THEY SHOULD FUCK OFF BACK TO THEIR OWN COUNTRY

  • So this is why I never see this repeated on the BBC. I can just imagine the politically correct hissy fit it would provoke.

  • @hatespc You berk, Fawlty Towers is FOREVER on tv.

  • @DidloDurante Is it? I havent seen it unless your talking about satellite or cable TV which I dont have. You Twat.
