  • Nice to know that there are civillians who realize there are lyrics to this. Cav RULEZ! Infantry droolz!

  • Cadence to the opening part (only part of it)

"And If you asked her why the heck she wore it, she wore it for the soldier who was far far away (chourus/platoon), FAR AWAY (chourus/platoon)x2."

  • Lol it sounds like some kind of soundtrack to the old danish movies "Far til fire" Direct translate to english "Dad to four"

  • Love that intro!

  • this is "she wore a yellow ribbon"

  • BASS BONE

  • eeew the tuba sounds gross, this mustve been a long time ago.

  • This is "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon," an old drinking song, and cavalry song, and used as the theme of the John Ford/John Wayne movie of the same name. It sounds like it was performed by the Prague Symphony Orchestra, and can be heard by them on You Tube by searching for the name. Definitely NOT a Sousa march.

  • Hated singing this in the ARMY. Not my favorite. This composed version is much better though.

  • This tune was featured in the John Wayne movie...'She Wore a Yellow Ribbon' , good flick, too.

  • This is a beauty zzahier, but I must ask along with the others, what's going on here? This is not listed under Sousa's march, and wiki doesn't even come up witha match for this title. WHO is playling it? The orchestral style is old, but much more modern sounding than Sousa.

Please reply? I'd like to include in my year by yera archive, but I need the facts correct!

  • @chkjns I think it's because it's not one of his best known marches like, Stars and Stripes, and Gladiator. As you can see, because of the trio, this song can't be used in a parade and isn't included in SCSBOA, so no one uses it. But if the person who posted the wiki knew more of Sousa, he'd know of this song. This song is well composed, but is more of a concert march.

  • @gtradn - thanks for your feedback, you prompted me to search some more. A Sousa site with a list of (all) 136 of Sousa's marches is silent on this one.

zzahier seems disinclined to respond, which is a pity, because they've uploaded SO much great music for us !!!!

These sound like they might be by the Slovak Orchestra in Bratislava which is known for its outSTANDing renditions of American music of this genre - this sounds more 'western movie theme' than 'march' though.

  • @chkjns np(: I don't know much about marches, but I do know a bit bout John Phillip his father was a trombonist like me, haha. Btw, what's that site called?

And ya it does sound a bit western, but it does also sound patriotic and American in the B portion. American music always includes flute solos.
