okay cool.here in nz people seem to love keeping the top mounts for better response.less power but better response on there setup.im currently running 19psi on my sti motor.running a walbro pump and no signs or leaning out or knock issues.im still running the sti top mount with no faults yet.
hey im from new zealand.just a quick question how do the top mounts work on the gc8?are the a good upgrade.i dont really understand the point of a top mount.heat rises?the top mount is the highest point of the engine bay.meaning if you sit in traffic the heat will just go straight into the top mount.is a frnt mount better to use?
@kayll007 The factory top mounts were put in place for cost effectiveness and simplicity, as well as to limit the amount of material in front of the factory radiator. Mechanically speaking, no, the top mount isn't best. An upgrade to a frount-mounted-intercooler (FMIC) has very few downsides. With an FMIC you can run a little bit more boost, and won't have and noticeable lag, and the FMIC will do a better job than the stock TMIC
one thing that gets me after all that impressive talk,.... if you are running it up on a rolling road how can you tell that the intercooler works since it hasn't got air flow through it when static...
one day they should find a way to cool the compressed air directly from the turbo, using for example azote injection inside compressor inner surface to cool the intake charge, lower charge losses by lowering is traject lenght and avoid those bulky intercoolers
@carig121 I totally agree with that like using amoniac to cool down the turbo IDK if this is the right term in english but it would be as simple as installing an intercooler in the car. Some rails for the liquid amoniac and a tank for it And thats it!!!
Do you need a intercooler when you have a Aftermarket Turbo? Or can you just have a Regular car for example 240sx with an GReddy intercooler and everything else is stock.
@EvooMR well u can use a meth/water spay if u don't want to run an intercooler set up but monitoring temps is a must and it can limit the amout of boost u may want to run
@EvooMR i recomend... to spray a 50/50 meth to water after the mass air flow sensor. also get 2 egt (exhaust temp. gauge) on would go in the manifold after the meth spray and one egt will go in ur header tube closest to the cylinder on hottest cylinder.
Nope, Intercoolers are air tight and keep all the air in. If anything the rain will help your intercooler, thats why they have water spray for intercoolers.
yep it would affect it, it would make the air flow cooler witch condenses the air, then ur ECU will recognize that their is a problem and their is too much Oxygen and not enough fuel, the ECU will fix the problem by providing more fuel.................thats what all aftermarket intercoolers are for to trick your ECU into giving more fuel (that means ur car is gona gain some extra HP 15-40)
wen the boost kicks in... the air is more compressed and cooler than with the stock intercooler... hence more power... ppl say that u wont get more power from installing an intercooler... but thats not true.. i just installed a greddy front mount on my 180sx tye x and i can feel the power difference when the boost kicks in... way better than a heat soaked tiny side mount shit..
Once again - better intercooler can't give power _increase_. It makes the power _loss_ less drastic after driving with the boost comparing to the stock intercooler.
your not 100% right a larger and more free flowing intercooler will allow a small power increase from less restriction and more ability to efficiently cool the air so it is more dense hence more power
i had this good idear.....we should bugger intercooling......and just use air conditioning....instead.......so build a box around the intercooler and plumb the airconditioning through it...............
....that should be heaps better......except you might miss you air conditioner........so you might have to install a second one........
Notice how everything he says is best is based in Australia....

Do you need to get a tune after you install a new intercooler?

can you install an intercooler kit on your car with out having a turbo? will it act as a intake?

@trailerfitter usually on dynos they have massive fans set up infront of the cooler to imitate the road winds

rain would work like an intercooler water spray, would help cool the air inside the intercooler would it not?

true

Just fitted a HyperFlow TMIC to my mates 05 sti... was piss easy with a good increase in power without any extra boost.

Excellent product, their monster top mount powers me to 431HP/362Lbs in my Sti7 with corresponding mods and it fits like a glove.

or just use the water to air with a water pump and a external tank in the back with ice and water mix best shit around

what does an intercooler do? I need a real answer cuz I keep getting different answers. does it cool the intake so you can fit more gasses in?
1skiinIan 3 years ago
It cools the intake charge. The intake charge is too hot for the motor after coming out of the turbocharger.
NickJ27 3 years ago
@NickJ27 its not that its too hot. its just not dense enough. you can run turbos without an intercooler you just can't run high boost thats all
