I rode Ike out a bit farther inland than Galveston. I honestly wouldnt have the guts it took these guys to be *that* close to the ocean during landfall.  Hell, we didnt get power back for almost a fortnight, and we were on the quick end of repairs to the grid.

I was down there about a year later (picking up scientific equipment for resale) and parts of the Bolivar Peninsula still looked worse for wear. While waiting for the ferry, a local showed us a pile of car, telling us how crews were still pulling junk out of Galveston Bay close to a year later.

I couldn't believe people where at a bar on the beach the day before Ike hit. Miller Lite or evacuate? Miller Lite. Gee, some people are stupid.

THANK YOU for speaking loudly for residents affected by Hurricane Ike. This video serves as a blessing for those fascinated and indeed humbled by the power of Nature. It also serves as a reminder of the horrific aftermath hurricanes unleash. While Katrina's $90 billion outpaces Ike's roughly $30 billion in damages, both exemplify the "power of water." God bless you and may you keep on tracking; giving us all greater insight into and appreciation for these phenomena.

Great Story by the way (best video yet ) but next time go to the bayside WOW .....I have a place for your camera (view of the Causway & Bay unobstructed) just contact me through yuo tube & i will set you up right, i stayed 6 days by myself after the Storm! Had enough supplys for a month or so.... well prepared but it was unbelievable Thanks Again guys this is Fantastic!

I rode out Ike by myself with my pets on 80th street on the bayside (Channelview dr) it was way worse than any part of this video except Crystal beach. 15 homes were knocked down over here 12 foot waves destroyed my next door neighbors house before it even rained! It was terrible. We have rebuilt & i thank GOD everyday that I made it out alive!

That is one of the toughest aspects to our work- trying to be in as many locations as possible. We tried to put a camera unit on the bay side early that morning but the rising water had already cut off our pre-determined location. It was simply astounding. Glad you are up and running again- next time I am in Galveston, I will look you up!
