The ultimate irony is that ASG & CyberGun and Umarex are themselves IP thieves. Look at the gearboxes and Hop-up units used in the majority of their AEGs. Did they design them? No. Do they make them under license of the designer? No. Sodding hypocrites.
@Heinz3493 sorry ,your statement is only half true. Cybergun and Umarex doesn't manufacture airsoft guns themselves instead they get them airsoft manufacturers such as ARES , KWA ,DBOYs, JG etc which all mainly uses the TM designed systems. But if you note that TM patents expired and never renewed, but however real steal guns are patented and trademarked.
No issue with the licensing but you speak of quality when in fact 9 times out of 10 it's not something that you have produced, you've stuck a sticker on the side of it. So in actual fact they're not copying or selling counterfeit goods at all.
If CyberGun, Umarex, ASG and all the other biggies want to take responsibility and want to make the airsoft market better, they should start by respecting the airsoft collector and player by putting on REAL trades and not that laser edged half hearted trade essay and wrong markings. I would much rather buy a KSC with "illegal" markings then a KWA with "legal" markings which are messed up. Work on that and then we can talk again!
Companies pay large sums of money for the license to manufacture products. Umarex USA is owned by Umarex Germany, owned by Walther Firearms. They have a license for HK, Colt etc, no one can produce products with HK, Colt etc without license or they will be sued for copyright. Echo1 USA was sued by Cybergun for infringing their FN Herstal license. If a product is not licensed the property owner/license holder can claim "Shenanigans". Peter is right about companies need to be more responsible.
but umarex don't make any products; they just charge others a large amount of money for mucking up the replicas with fake trade marks so i take issue with the word "counterfeit".
Even though Spartan Imports is a member of Cybergun's 'extended family', Ho looks a little bit like this incident may have been a surprise to him as well, just a little bit. Something stinks in Vegas and it's not the urine soaked alleyways.
@cqrt I've got a theory that this (SECOND) lawsuit Cybergun filed over the SCAR also has something to do with Echo 1's plans to unveil more info on their partnership with Costa Ludas, Chris Costa's new company. They're not connected directly, sure, but the timing is very coincidental.
@EllicottCityATeam echo1 dont make anything from what i can tell - they bought the rifs in from china and just boxed them differently "re-brander" is more the term i would use for these guys.
