As of 1.7.2, you don't need the clock to update the signal... or at least, in my bukkit server, it's not necessary. Maybe you should check it out and update the description and annotations of the video, that will probably save someone's time.
An idea for the output signal: Converge OR-gates to an Iron door to the top floor from the outside, so you can ONLY get inside (the easy way) as long as at least one tree is grown. (Maybe even make it so 2-3 of them must grow first.)
@thunderlord2200 Basically, it monitors tree growth using Redstone. This actually opens up a lot of possibilities, such as long-distance monitoring, or even a redstone-based counter which counts how many trees you've grown.
@MinecraftingStuff ah ok, that really sounds kool. ...since i have a base far from my mine underground tree farm.... it could save me a lot of time just noing when the threes r ready instead of wasting 30mins to get there. xD (i live far. i Explore alot and found a spot.... but im to lazy to redo my tree farm witch took me 4 hrs+ to do. xD..... (trying to play hard mod with out using INVedit= no real mine-cart and tracks.. xD
Hmmm, if we were to combine this with automated cannons (ones with the piston and cobble generators) we could actually make this fully automated... just surround the parts with trees water channels so they all collect at one spot
Very cool setup! Thanks a lot for sharing this! I need a tree farm and I love automated designs! Just my cup of tee! Very nice presentation and everything well explained! Also, thanks for giving credits for the MEES;-)
I like it, although I don't think I'll actually be using it myself as I prefer to just grow a forset or two, chop it down and replant.
Also to put my two cents into your circuit design, if you hooked up the input side to the 5 clock you'd get a blinking light. Blinky lights are just cooler imo.
Very informative. I might not ever use a minimap system since I always have open-air, very visible birch tree farms which I chop down from the ground (like the caveman I am), but then maybe I might do it someday when I feel particularly crafty.
Also, wouldn't it be possible to place the circuits higher so that they only produce an output when the tree is of a particular height, so that it tells you exactly which tree is tall enough to safely jump down?
@Xhaleon You don't know how much I hate F8 mode :D
The one thing I like about the Minimap is that it can be used from "long range". It can be combined with Redstone, as well. Note Blocks? :D
Placing the circuits higher will probably result in the trees not growing. The trees require that there is nothing in the way of their Leaves. Because the leaves practically cover the entire top, we can't reach the logs. Also, leaves don't "conduct" power as logs do. So, short answer is no, I believe.
but what is the point of the redstone

@Deses Due to Pistons, this video is pretty outdated anyway. I'll probably make another after I get back from vacation.
However, in SSP, it seems that you still do need to update the tree block... Try it there, as it might be some kind of bukkit mod/glitch.

coo you came up with the same design for the rapid pulsar as my friend!
