  • I have a smokey chicken in my pants.

  • :27 seconds TOUCHDOWN!!!

  • What I don't get is why people give a hoot about his sexuality. It doesn't take anything away from his talent. If he is gay or not who gives a F#$*!!!! Just enjoy the music.

  • @moonsong66 he is neither straigh or gay... he doesn't like the fact of having sex with anyone... that why he is like over the simple things like a penis o a vagina... thats what it makes him a really deep person... not just a normal dude...

  • @sasvite I was just trying to make to make a point. I know he is Asexual but I wasn't going to try to explain that to a bunch of homophobics thier minds are to small to understand. Some people can't grasp the idea that before we are male or female we are human and it is possible to be attracted to someones mind not their gender. So my point is...I could give a rats ass about his sexuality I love Morrisey

  • @moonsong66 indeed my friend :) because for love theres no fucking sex... we are all free to feel whatever we want to feel... and thats completly right

  • @sasvite Or someone with severe OCD.

That or platonic love is common to all human beings, but many people are uncomfortable admitting to it due to the pressure of convention and the unhealthy stigma non-sexual affection has garnered since the Victorian period.

  • the idea of people going mental to mosa amuses me much and ive seen it.William it was ).

  • Being from a humdrum town, I can completely relate to the sentiment--but I've to get back to my fat girl...she'd like to marry me.

  • i wish i could dance like that

  • can anyone figure out if marr is playing the les paul in nashville tuning, Im trying to figure out how he does this one live

  • @14165rljb It's possible to play it without nashville tuning, but it doesn't sound quite as good... Unless you're Johnny Marr :P

  • Thanks for upload this wonderful music live!!!

  • I had a mental orgasm from 1:43 to 1:58

  • WHERE CAN I GET A COPY OF THIS SO I CAN PUT THE AUDIO ON A CD FOR THE TRUCK

  • @samedeepwater2 FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS THESE LIVE SONGS IN MP3 FORMAT OR CD!!! Get Realplayer, use Realplayer downloader to download the video, then use Realplayer Converter to make mp3, then go to iTunes>Import>File then find where you saved the Mp3. Then add the song, and any others, to YouTube, insert blank disc, and burn CD.

  • i would not have thought that this was on a les paul

  • I want that hat.

  • how the fuck does marr play this shit.jammy cunt lol

  • Who need Michael Jackson when you have 1:04 ?

  • @hero451

    hahahaha Excellent ! :D

  • I always confuse his glasses for an eye-patch in 1:12.

  • @hadar7773 Lol.

  • What a ridiculous hat.Of course it is Morrissey so he can wear whatever the hell he wants & still make it look like an Armani suit. (:

  • How can you stay with a fat girl !!!

  • i love the smiths, wish i was alive to see them live

  • wow

  • Morrissey resembles Fredryk Phox with that hat on. Now I see the Phox's inspiration.

  • How many bassists here have learnt this song, and then went and listened to this and thought: "Fuck! I've been playing it wrong!"

  • This whole song is a melancholic orgasm.

  • Why is Mozz dressed like a pimp?

  • @deadplanet22 cuz he is?

  • Rourke and Joyce were brilliant. They made the Smiths very danceable and one of the only 80's bands with a decent low end in recordings...

  • Extremely wobbly vocal performance.

  • the intro is killing man, gives me the willies

  • Check out 1:05 -- looks like an homage to Ian Curtis.

    God bless Manchester.

  • I think this song is very similar to "This Charming man..." is about a man telling another man that it's ok, that he doesn't really have to get married and get a job and do what is expected of him. That it's ok to rebel, to not care about the crap everyone else cares about, like marriage, and a mortgage and babies.

I love this man. I think Morrissey's lyrics transcend gender. I'm a woman and I can totally relate to this song.

  • Johnny Marr is a real genius of the guitar.

  • Great bass, nice drums, totally messed up vocals...what were u doin Morrissey?

  • Smiths & Morrissey night @ Indiependence in Wigan.....Saturday 13th March 2010...£4 Entry....Open 9pm - 6am!! WITH VIVA MORRISSEY PLAYING LIVE ON STAGE!!!!

    Search Facebook - "INDIEPENDENCE WIGAN"

  • Can't believe all these ridiculous ideas about who or what the song is about. Would have thought it was obvious that it's about the film "Billy Liar" - Morrissey said so himself, though he hardly needed to. Maybe these people are too young and have no knowledge of ol films?

  • the fat girl is williams girl.. william was a guy morrisey fell for.. Would You Like To Merry Me.. And If Youl Like Il Buy The Ring.. She Doesnt Care About anyone..

  • That's not how i interpret it; date a fat chick who wants you to get her pregnant and then fuck your friends when you're not home, you'll see where i am coming from. Never mind what the song really is or isn't about.

  • There is nothing wrong with being gay you homophobic twat.

  • Andy O'Rourke is one of the best bass guitarists of the 80s fact. Taught by Johnny Marr who could have asked for a better teacher??? He has influenced my playing bigtime big respect to him and mike joyce they dont get the regognition they truely deserve it wouldnt have been the smiths otherwise.

  • Absolutely agree with you Spartan2549. Listen to that tone and those nice licks. Love O'Rourke's style all around. Suits this genre of music very well and helps define The Smiths' sound.

  • @spartan2549 According to the misanthropic, malcontent Morrissey, Rourke and Joyce were really nothing more than glorified session musicians! Of course, money played a part in him coming to this opinion (the court case). I seem to remember Paul Weller saying something similar about Foxton and Buckler. Rourke was originally a funk bassist and gave The Smiths an unlikely danceability. Nice to know you're appreciated! Tells you a lot about Morrissey and Weller, diamond geezers both!

  • More bass.

  • 1. the smiths isn't punk

    2. The smiths and Morrissey have influenced ALOT of people, are you saying that all of them are wrong

however, i guess you have your opinion the same as everyone else

  • I didn't even have to go into your profile to figure out you were American.

  • hush wigger..

  • app this woz written 4 billy mackenzie r.i.p such a legend. xx

  • yeah, apparently morrissey had a crush on him. great song.

this town has dragged you down!

  • the bass makes it happen

  • I agree AdeBamforth - the bassline really shows Andy's skill - much as I HATE to say it (I feel I should be loyal to Marr and Morrissey in the division!)

I love Barbarism Begins At Home too - another superb example that Andy was more than a 'session' musician. And, (cringe) The Queen Is Dead live even showcases Mike Joyce's brilliant drumming for that song. Bugger it, it comes down to the fact that I appreciate Andy and Mike for their contributions but COULDN'T LIVE without Marr/Morrissey!

  • @ladytawny . Without Rourke in particular and Joyce The Smiths wouldn't have been the same band. Who could you imagine replacing Rourke? Michael Dempsey?

  • Apart from everything else, this clip really shows some great bass playing by Andy.

  • this concert should have been the smiths live album

  • aww mozz sure does look lovely in these glasses and the hat

  • a homophobic worst nightmare..moz

  • i didnt realy got the point of the song, like what does it means...?

  • johnny marrs riff in the beginning is genius! one of the best guitarists alive!

  • basass. haha. uh no. moody DB

  • Rourkey I Love U!!!

    LEGENDARY BASS LINES.

  • No doubt!

  • @karziflora legendary indeed, cheers!

  • Man I agree but aside from all that I can't believe they played this live! Sounds so hard to do! Awesome job The Smiths! Now get back together and quit bull shittng people with your crappy side projects and reunite already before it's too late! Please for heaven sakes!

  • *steals hat*

    muahahahah

  • Johnny Marr is a guitar god!

  • Watching Johnny Marr playing guitar is just inspiring.

  • is he wearing purple pants?

    lol

only morrissey can pull that off

  • How does morrissey make something that would otherwise seem very geeky seem very cool and effortless?

  • 'cos he is a friggin Legend!

  • Comment removed

  • He doesn't care about what people think about him. He turned his un-rockstar qualities into a trademark. Hence the glasses, the love of flowers, the books, the hearing aid etc.

  • A God Of Music? Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Paul Mcartney, Steven Morrissey....

  • Stephen

  • no its steven patrick morrissey.

  • oh god you're right

    dearest apologies

  • someone adjust the tracking

  • What I would give to turn back time and be at this show.

    <3

  • Marr really makes them doesn't he?

    My favourite song this.

  • So it´s mine... So it´s mine...

  • fap fap fap

  • morrissey has a unique voice but its an aquired taste yet he writes some of the most majestic lyrics ever. johnny marr is 1 of the best guitarists ever and the other bandmates are so underrated

  • Andy Rourke is the best bass players prbabely of all times. Hooky comes in second palce..

  • I totally agree. It's so rare that anyone even mentions Rourke, but listen to the rolling bass line on "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"--it's just perfect!

  • That's Andy Rourke. Nowadays it's hard to find talented bass players like him & Hooky.

    Melodic & unique........

  • this madrid show would have made a great live release

  • the smiths have some really deep lyrics..i love them!! it may be a bit late..but i'm catching onto the smiths alot lately...'this charming man' was one of the first songs i heard by them that made me really dig them. brilliant band..amazing vocals. I'm definitely glad this band came into existence

  • you're a wanker!!

  • grandes, muy grandes

  • And God knows i have to live mine. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

  • Morrissey's always really sharp on the singing live compared to most new bands

And andy is pure genuise on the bass

Not the mention the awesome might of johnny!

The only average member was Joyce, but he had a rhythm that suited the band. And that's all that matters(:

    THE SMITHS!

  • Marr= excellent Mozz = excellent people who think this music isn't melodic = idiotic.

  • not melodic oh dear vincent theres no hope for some people, you obviously dont understand our basic language our poetry,or hummor, you proved that with your comment, the smiths were a big figure of the 80s music, and not just in britain, its realy annoying to see, when you have not studied this band but yet you critazise them,(its simular to saying i hate oranges, but i have never tried one, do you see my point? anyway enough of me, thank you for posting :) mr marr cool as ever

  • Don't think Morrissey's singing that sharp really, it's pretty damn good!

  • Mozza sounds so funny when he says "hullo" at the beginning

  • The "hullo" is permanently ingrained in my memory of this song.

  • this is the Tribute song from Morrissey to Billy Mackenzie, from the Associates , isnt it?

anyways.. great song, thx for posting this!!!!

  • he's not sharp the whole song, but he does sound off now and again- still Johnny Marr is fantastic

  • pity he's singing sharp through the whole song

  • This is maybe a bit too good. My first ever gig was The Smiths in 1985. Probably shortly after this show. What a band!

  • They were original in every sense of the word. They might not immediately appeal to you, but give it time. They'll grow on you.

  • i always wondered what the big deal was with the smiths when i was younger. i get it now...

  • Likewise, The Beatles' greatest hay day was dull and lifeless. Elvis was a terribly mediocre performer and a horrible songwriter. You can't deny that either wasn't absolutely great for their ability to influence and invigorate their crowd, handing down a legacy to decades of generations.

Personally, I disagree with your statement, but I understand your feelings on the matter. You should at least respect them, though.

  • What's your favorite band?

  • Yeah v1nc3ntv3g4 who are your favourite band?

  • you must be completely dim to believe that this music isn't melodic whatsoever. are you not hearing the meld of the instruments? are you not hearing marrs brilliantly jangly guitar?

  • they were so ahead of their time it wasnt even funny. these days, if u r in a band and you say u werent influenced by The Smiths in some way, ur probly lying lol. love this song!

  • Nice hat, Moz. No shirt shedding in this performance though, shame.

    Brilliant band live, The Smiths.

  • completely agree, awesome bass player!! met him recently, really nice guy too

  • Nice to see Andy Rourke getting praised. I always say The Smiths wouldn't have been as good without him but some people are just obsessed with Morrissey and Marr and don't appreciate how good he was. I dont think Morrissey ever did

  • Judging from the royalties row, court battle and subsequent comments from the 'Mozfather' I would say not!!!!

  • I totally agree with you goodusernameman, I argue with people sometimes explaining how Rourke blended beautifully with marr's guitar style, that's why he's never spoken of.

    Smiths forever

  • How underrated Andy Rourke is. Even huge Smiths fans just talk about Morrissey and Marr, fair enough they're deadly but Andy Rourke was just as much a part of the Smiths' sound. Bleedin great bassist!

  • i agree

  • yeah, great melodies and tone. He was way above most other rock bassists.

  • morrissey and marr are rightly credited for brilliant songwriting as a team. but most smiths fans in the day recognized that they were an amazingly tight band as a whole. One good listen to Hatful of Hollow demonstrates it. So I think the fans I knew then credited all of the band members for their greatness.

  • Brilliant video. Loved the little captions for each of the band members. Marr is amazing

  • Johnny Marr what a guitar god. Pisses on Clapton

  • not sure about that, they have completely different styles. Marr never does solos and doesnt use any blues riffs, so its hard to compare. But Marr is definitly a god for sure, eventhough he wasnt great in this vid.

  • bwahahahahahah. ahahahahahahahahah

    ahahahahahah

    bwahahahahahah.

    wait...oh you were serious?

    bwahahahahahahaha

    ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah...

  • how can someone so young write such lifedrenced material. i mean id understand if he had of been 60 or so when he penned this material with marr, i just dont understand, smiths music moulded my personality when i was a teenager, thats for sure..

  • Because morrissey is a genius.

  • MARR wrote this song at 20...incredible

  • pure gold

  • GREAT song

  • I never get tired of The Smiths!!!!! They sound just as good today as they did when I was 15...and I'm 37.

  • I'm 40 now and was 16 at this time..and still have the WILLIAM IT WAS REALLY NOTHING EP..

  • Did you buy it from Jill dando?

  • I've got this on the Louder Than Bombs double LP.

  • True lyricist!

"Now I know how Joan of Arc felt, as the flames rose to her Roman nose and her Walkman started to melt"

    GENIUS!

  • Trilby or Fedora?

  • ANDY ROURKE = magic bass line

    JOHNNY MARR = magic guitar

  • Please respect Mike Joyce = great drummer : )

  • love em!

  • The Smiths are flippin sweet!!!!! Morrisey has the most unique voice ever!

    <3 <3 <3

  • That hat Moz is wearing is absolutly Mint!

  • incredible performance!

  • I had this video since 1987 in VHS, and all the concert also, it was in Spain.

  • Hi. there. Are you selling copies or something. I would love to have a copy. I dont mind paying. I love the smiths and Morrissey.thank you

  • sexy, adorable, MANLY, and a unique voice quality...

  • best band in the world shame they split up still love them all these yrs later

  • they are just manchester music

  • this tune has got an amazing riff. the song just well reminds me of a shitty manchester afternoon

  • must of been a bad ass show!!

  • Have you ever seen Charlotte Church from behind?

That is most definitely another bad ass show.....

  • Im sure you guys know hes still making more songs. If not well..hes making another album.

  • They must be one of the best bands of all time easily they dont get enough credit-this is a shitty version though but however what a band

  • man. why did they have to break up before i was born? DAMMIT!

  • It's your own fault......you should have been born sooner....

  • Fantastic band and music and 30 comments with not a negative in sight. A First! Moment!

  • all their musics smell england!! it's a fantastic band

  • I love his falsettos.

  • morriseey is a god your a pointless prick

  • the smiths = amazing

  • STEVEN IT WAS REALLY SOMETHING!
