You know what? your making your self look smart but your not ! the reason some people ask for help to upgrade a jailbroken iphone is because they are a afraid of losing their 100's of apps they, and your here telling them to completely restore to the original version they, well any dumb ass knows to do that, they wanna know how to upgrade without the hassle of losing their up, and reinstalling them all over again..

you will lose cydia if you update and need to re jailbreak to get it back, make sure you sync your contacts and music etc on itunes before you restore to the new version then just add them back when your done, then jailbreak for whatever version your on :)

I had a jailbroken iPhone 3G 16GB and just installed the OS 3.0 Software Update without doing a restore or anything. I would say definitely don't do that. I lost everything. Cydia, winterboard and all the apps I downloaded from Cydia as well as the lock screen and SB settings I had. Don't do the update. You will lose everything.

even if you backup its not going to back up cydia its not an apple application it's 3rd party, you will always lose all your cydia stuff when updating, yes it's a pain but the updates are important plus with 3.0 and 3.0.1 there are so many new functions well worth installing, it only took me like 5 mins to install software re jailbreak my iphone and get all the cydia apps back.

Its shift to restore custom :p.3.0 beta 5 is out, so glitchy (and you nee iTunes 8.2 pre-release). I've been jailbreaking for a while, you seem very well informed on jailbreaking, just watched a couple of vids. Subecribe xD if anyone needs a backup 2.2.1 you can get it from jima663's forum

thats what i hear. im sticking with beta 4 cause of that. i also heard it closes down mms and tethering. im not sre if thats just for those on att or everyone on tmobile or any other gsm pro. i would like to go to beta 5 cause now cydia is included with a jailbreak for it, but hardly any apps are ready.

yea, beta5=suckage. No winterboard (still), theres no mi patch yet (and its pointless to make because beta 6 is gonna be out soon). Yea, like you said most of the apps from cydia just cause the device to go into recovery mode. I'm back on 2.2.1 now, SOO happy
