The Burbs=one of the most under-rated movies of all time!! The story is both hilarious and scary at the same time and Goldsmith's music just adds so much more humor and terror to it!! Especially the track "The Sentinel"....there's something very beautiful and scary about that track all at the same time! Brillant movie.....I always love showing it to others!!

And not to take away from the truth of your observation, frankly, everyone looked gorgeous in this film to some degree. Something about that alive "breathing" natural 80's cinematography made everything look so alive, full of fresh air. It really felt like you were seeing a summertime adventure.
There should be a sequel to the burbs. The Klopeks return to terrorize the residents of Mayfield Place. Hans returns to collect Ray Peterson's skull! The burbs is one of my favourite films. However, i would like to see a sequel to the burbs with less comedy and more of a darker feel to it.
@masterofillusion1, well it's probably a little too late to do a sequel now. But if it were still possible to do a sequel, honestly, I wouldn't actually care what it was about. I loved the characters, tone, cinematography and atmosphere of the original so much--as long as they retained the same overall feel, I would literally pay to watch these characters go on a bowling trip together.
@masterofillusion1 it's funny you mention the "darker feel". When Tom Hanks signed up for the movie he thought it was going to be a more serious kind of movie. He thought the movie would revolve more around Ray Peterson's paranoia about his neighbors. . He didn't think it was going to be such a goofy movie.
@masterofillusion1 How about this? There's all new residents living at Mayfield Place. Kids tell of rumors of the the great Ray Peterson and how he beat the evil Klopeks. It's merely an urban legend. Then, like you said, the Klopeks secretly return to wreak havok. But nobody believes they actually exist. Nobody except one person (? actor/actress). This person has to find Ray to ask for help.
