  • How do i rename files seperatly faster then right clicking on get info and doing each one please reply

  • @wazup3333 If you click the file with your mouse and then hit the enter button it will allow you to rename the file with out needing to click "get info"

  • @readthename ik you can do that but is there a faster way then having every get info screen pop up

  • @readthename thanks a lot

  • thanks A LOT

  • Thanks a lot - exactly what I needed

  • cheers!

  • I have a mac and I can't believe mac doesn't have easy pc like multiple file rename feature. With this Automator it takes 2:45 minutes. In pc takes 3 seconds: command+A, Right mouse button and Rename. Simple as that. If you have simple solution, let me know pls!

  • Really explained well. Thanks for the post.

  • thanks for this, really helped!

  • Hey Mac nerds out there, it only takes windows 5 seconds to rename multiple files at the same time.

  • @Halophite That's fine if you want them all to be "filename (#).xxx" (I wish it was that simple on OSX too, one thing Windows does easier), but if you want more control like adding the time and date and for it to only apply things to files with certain criteria and so on, using Automator and this kind of method gives you a hell of a lot more control.

  • Something about your accent makes this video amazing.

  • Awesome, so grateful :) bit hard to follow seen as I am using Lion and t has a slightly different layout but i got there and man that saved me a lot of time, I had over 300 images to do :)

  • Dude, seriously, thanks so much.

  • thanks for this nice little tip and it worked like a charm!

  • Thanks a lot! looking for a tutorial just like this one! Cheers!

  • Thank you SO much for this! I have been looking for a video like this for so long and i can't seem to find one until now. I actually have an outdated mac os x. This is really helpful.

  • Your accent is awesome.

  • Thanks, that will save me a lot of time!!

  • Thanks!

  • I've gotta say I love my macbook and mac and all, but renaming files on windows is way easier... Not an apple hater or pc lover... just saying!

apple could;ve made this is little easier

  • yes! i've been searching forever for this. thanks man. great tutorial!

  • Thanks for the tutorial, it really helped me.

  • Oh man I wish I had found this about half an hour ago. Awesome. Thank you.

  • thanks

  • so helpful! thank you :D

  • So useful! Took about ten seconds. Thanks so much.

  • cheers dude

  • Thanks for this. Not only did it save me hours of work, I can use this clip to silence every kool-aid drinker who tells me how much easier it is 'to do stuff' on a Mac. PCs may suck in many ways, but in others? Macs are sorely, desperately wanting....

  • Thanks! That was what I was looking for!

  • Great really using batch renaming photos in using automator made simple.

  • That's cool mate! Short and Sharp

  • Really really, I appreciate your video, simple and useful.

    Thanks man

  • Thank you so much. Very nice tutorial.

  • Awesome awesome awesome job.

    :)

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you! Clearly, there are some things that are more difficult on a MAC than a PC--such as renaming files. But, your tutorial showed me how to solve that problem. Thanks so much.

  • wow thanks for vid mate

  • this may sound dumb but when I save it and run the workflow from the drop menu, how do I get it to let me rename the files, it just lets me select all and renames them by number? it doesn't give me the option to enter a new name. I don't understand why Mac makes it so difficult to rename files? it doesn't make sense??

  • Thank you. Nice one.

  • this helps me a lot, thank you so much!

  • Apple really needs to come up with an easier way. This took you longer than it would to rename 10 pictures manually. For hundreds of files it would save you some time but this is one instance where windows definitely got it right over Mac. In windows you simply highlight all the files you wish to rename and then just rename one file and they will all follow suit.

  • Thank you for posting this video, I had 190 photos to rename from a trip I just took and would have lost many of them because of same file names in a storage folder. Using automator was quick and easy with your tutorial which I followed exactly and it worked perfectly. Thank you again! :-)

  • Oh my GOD!! Finally!

So hard to find an explanation without having to download all the nonsense bingo sign-ups and god knows what else - so thanks a bunch!

  • Truly Thnx

  • thank you

  • I think you just saved my life. I've been searching all day for a way to do this, and it's been right here under my nose the entire time. As you can tell, I'm new to Mac so I'm not very familiar with the native apps. Anyways, after blogging this for what feels like half the day, I stumbled upon your video. Thanks for taking the time to help so many of us out!

  • What if I need to remove part of a filename in multiple files that all have different titles? Like this:

    "Sherlock Holmes 1945-04-30 Unfortunate Tobacconist.mp3"

    "Sherlock Holmes 1945-05-07 Purloined Ruby.mp3"

On and on like that, but I just want to remove the date so I can sort them better.

  • great tutorial, thanks for sharing!

  • THAAANK YOOOOUUUU!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the tip just needed the answer for this!

  • Thank you so much for doing this. yay!

  • Thank you for this I have been forever searching for this.

  • your welcome

  • Wait so.. do you have to make a new one each time? I want to be able to click and rename all like on windows. I don't mind making an automator once but it must work on any folder... in fact I don't even want to rename a folder, I just want to click on a few files and rename them. Ugh. nice video but it's stupid that its required and still not as good as the simple windows options which have been around forever.. gah. why is no OS near perfect?

  • @moogle301 Yeah, but Windows isn't really all that helpful... it just renames all to the same name with (x) after for each x in the number of files you're renaming.

With automator you can rename with your own enumeration or what have you.

  • THANK YOUUUUU!

  • cheers man, great clear tutorial..

yeah would be nice if you could just right click group selections!

    but thanks alot tho!!

  • yeh i knw! but we must do as apple say lol

  • Awesome thanks

  • Why the hell can I not just highlight several click rename and then it renames them all with a number behind it like Windows? It pisses me off. This makes it so much more difficult to rename files.

  • Oh yeah, thank you for showing me how to do this though. It is way more complicated than it should be.

  • Thanks. Great tip. I've found that if you leave "new name" blank, the sequential numbers are added to the existing file names, which is handy for me.

  • Very good didn't know that!

  • why is so difficult to rename a file in mac as with pc its right click rename done ???

  • ilove thes video

    thank you vere much man

  • tanks for that... i was looking for a video simple and direct about that!!!

  • Thanks! This is a cracking good tutorial - nice and clear, good visibility, well and easily commentated.

Easy to understand, and works like a dream.

    Cheers!

    Roger
