DQ 6 is a great game, but I do have to agree that the story is a little confusing and it seems like it's multiple games in one: like it ends but continues, ends again and continues and so on....but it plays almost exactly like the other DQ's on DS so if you like those you'll like this one as well....Make no mistake, this is a great game and the story imo is interesting..it just doesn't know when to end. The world map of this game is probably my favorite, though.

It was really bad designed.. it was tedious, grinding took a LONG time, weak story and finding a key item on the bottom of the ocean without any clues actually made me almost quit the game. You'd think i am a hater, but im not. I'm a really really big dragon quest fan. I just hate 6 :(

@Volviert Final fantasy XII sucked though. And 10 was the last good game of the series. Im just mad at 8 9 and joker for using a skill point system. They changed too much from the original dq games and it annoyed me. So I guess I am just making a big deal out of it. XD
@JeffPlaysGames Skill points were great, they added that little flair of customization to the characters that really made it interesting. Especially in 9, with unlockable abilities along the way, it really made you think about which skill you were investing in.

If I want to play something with a bunch of customization i would play WRPG's. In JRPG's I want to get through the story without having to worry about how I am going to manage my skills and characters to defeat bosses. That's why I enjoy 1-7 waaaaay more than 8, 9, and dqmj
@UltimaCrunk I disagree with a lot of the review, but he was judging the game by how it stands up with newer RPGs that polished what was considered primitive in older RPGs, and like he said: "If you're a Dragon Quest fan, or if you like old school RPGs, you'll love this game; but if you're not a Dragon Quest fan or an RPG fanatic in general, the game will bore you to tears." I agree with that statement, and while I really am enjoying the game, I can see why some people would absolutley hate it.
this game is so good whether you love rpg or just love the old school ones. its been a while since i've played a game with a good story and concept. i just love the twists in this game. i grew on me til i completed a big portion of the game. this game gets a solid 10 as soon as you beat the game. trust me
i went out of my way to get dq9 when it was released, and what i loved about it was the battles, the different armour and weapons and the graphics. in dq6 most of this was taken out.
i still really liked the story, but most things i liked that were in dq9 were taken out in this game.
@gaza1098 even then dq6 was still a part of the zenithia seriers so they made them all alike to keep the trilogy (IV V VI) to be almost the same while Dq9 was a new concept and they needed a new idea

Of course it's you're opinion, but i really have to say that I had almost never played a JRPG before when i got Dragon Quest VI, but I really loved it. Although the plot itself isn't that interesting, the whole story is amazing by it's length, and I got a fantastic adventure-feeling because they had exploited the story so well. I just loved the structure because the game was so big!
The hell? This game does not deserve just a 7, at least give it an 8. And the story isn't as black and white as IGN makes it seem, it's much deeper than explained. i really really really wanted to play this game because everyone was talking about it. So i got it on an emulator which ran very well surprisingly, and it is possibly the most boring game i have ever played. This reminds me of a game on the super nintendo back when super nintendo came out. It wasnt called dragon quest though. But i do agree, this game is awesome for some and extremely boring for others
The month I spent playing WoW made me understand why turn based crushes action systems every time. My experiences with Final Fantasy made me realize how lame it is having to cast some secret spell to exploit some secret weakness or die in 1 turn (Golbez in FF4 anyone?). Games like 2 Worlds make me realize why Dragon Quest is the finest RPG series.
I don't see what the hubbub is about the review. It's accurate; an older DQ game is only going to appeal to die-hard fans of JRPGs that appreciate the charm of simple gameplay. My only gripe about the review was that he docked the music because of the length, but it's a legitimate concern. I'd have to say the same for something like Wild ARMs.
If you like JRPGs, or you like the DQ formula, you will like this game. Most others will pass, because it's targeted to a very specific audience.
I liked playing this game in i got to the part where have to go down to the underground Temple i was enjoying mtself intill i got in a battle with a monster That Completely SPAMMED Sizzle 8 times for 30-40 damage and quickly wiped my party. Then the Quest before this a NPC told me go one place to the NE where the Tower was Visable to the NW. Maybe it's asking to much if you do a remake at least they could have cleaned the game up before putting it out there. Dislike

I think that games journalists often miss the point. Video games do not have good stories. All we need is enough plot to make the world fun and enough story to get me from point A to point B.
@Blaze4LifeProduction RPG's aren't for everyone! As for myself, I love these types of games, whereas I say the same thing you just said about Call of Duty.
Personally, I thought the Dragon Quest/Warrior series are well designed. To not follow along with the previous games in the series would invite even more criticism from avid fans. The music and graphics are not amazing, but that is also not meant to be a draw to the game. Yes, the game is monotonous, aren't all video games? Dragon Quest has always provided games with reliable similarity, yet are still enjoyable to play. This latest installment stays true to this and I for one enjoyed playing it.

He rips on the graphics, even though they're well animated in battle and quite competent for a DS game. He rips on the music for no other reason than the game being long. He rips on the gameplay, really only citing the game is turned based, "super traditional" and a JRPG to prove himself.

i really really really wanted to play this game because everyone was talking about it. So i got it on an emulator which ran very well surprisingly, and it is possibly the most boring game i have ever played. This reminds me of a game on the super nintendo back when super nintendo came out. It wasnt called dragon quest though. But i do agree, this game is awesome for some and extremely boring for others

The month I spent playing WoW made me understand why turn based crushes action systems every time. My experiences with Final Fantasy made me realize how lame it is having to cast some secret spell to exploit some secret weakness or die in 1 turn (Golbez in FF4 anyone?). Games like 2 Worlds make me realize why Dragon Quest is the finest RPG series.

I don't see what the hubbub is about the review. It's accurate; an older DQ game is only going to appeal to die-hard fans of JRPGs that appreciate the charm of simple gameplay. My only gripe about the review was that he docked the music because of the length, but it's a legitimate concern. I'd have to say the same for something like Wild ARMs.
If you like JRPGs, or you like the DQ formula, you will like this game. Most others will pass, because it's targeted to a very specific audience.

I liked playing this game in i got to the part where have to go down to the underground Temple i was enjoying mtself intill i got in a battle with a monster That Completely SPAMMED Sizzle 8 times for 30-40 damage and quickly wiped my party. Then the Quest before this a NPC told me go one place to the NE where the Tower was Visable to the NW. Maybe it's asking to much if you do a remake at least they could have cleaned the game up before putting it out there. Dislike

dude graphics shouldn't matter with any game, what matters is if the game is good or not. and graphics matter even less when it comes to RPGs. btw this game is old. it should have old graphics.

He is litteraly cracking the game off. All verdicts nowadays on these pure jrpgs are low because it is a dying race. But i think many JRPG fans give these titles much higher ratings. Come one, what do we retro role player gamers prefer over a classic storyline and thought-out turn based tactics?

Personally, I thought the Dragon Quest/Warrior series are well designed. To not follow along with the previous games in the series would invite even more criticism from avid fans. The music and graphics are not amazing, but that is also not meant to be a draw to the game. Yes, the game is monotonous, aren't all video games? Dragon Quest has always provided games with reliable similarity, yet are still enjoyable to play. This latest installment stays true to this and I for one enjoyed playing it.

This review bored the life out of me.
He rips on the graphics, even though they're well animated in battle and quite competent for a DS game. He rips on the music for no other reason than the game being long. He rips on the gameplay, really only citing the game is turned based, "super traditional" and a JRPG to prove himself.
I'm not saying the game appeals to everyone, but this review seems to be from someone who decided to dislike the game before even starting to play it. Dislike.
