  • What must we do to reach the Glory Land (while alive on Earth)? Listen to music?

  • You want to sing tenor, sing it like Dr. Ralph!

  • Never knew Carter played guitar like Lester Flatt.

  • two people saw the devil and ate his c**k and 157 people have a life

  • These guys are sooo good!

    Whatever became of GOOD music?

The acoustics are bad, the engineering is rudimentary, the recording sucks....

But the music and message is PRICELESS !!

Sorry Justin Bieber, you ve been outdone

  • The Harmony in this song, and the harmony that, Don Reno & Red smiley had, along with the harmony of Ralph & Carter Stanley, together was just amazing.

  • These people need to be christened as saints.

  • slick :)

  • What a great video !

  • A lot of talent right there boys and girls!!!!!

  • Fine song ...

Toutefois je prefère la version de Bill Monroe disponible sur l'album " Road of life ( issued in 1974)...

  • wow, can"t get any better.

  • Great song but to much distortion.

  • Ralph's best band included Keith Whitley--I saw them in Delaware in 1978. This age is gone, and we'll never get it back.

  • @AmBotanischenGarten Pray we do Brother...Pray we do! We're having an ole fashioned tent meeting in Kankakee,IL. this week starting Wednesday night June 15th. until Sunday at Perry Farm. Hope to see souls saved for His Kingdom.

  • I feel so sad that after us oldies there will never be anything this wonderful to listen to..what will happen to this kind of music after they're gone and us that post this kind of music....so sad....

  • Sir(s): All Nations are apparently "Sought After" and "Called As" to Be, or To Become likened Unto, "the Glory Land." Thank you. Et Merci beaucoups. --Attributed, J. D., SATX 78202 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (=U. S. A.)

  • Class ++++++

  • damn ! can someone load it up in good sound quality ? please! it woul be marvellous!

  • @buchananstreet There is another one up on YouTube. That version is much better.

  • If my church played this I'd be 10 min early each week.

  • @GoWulfpack Hey brother our Church of God up in Hayes,

VA started Sunday services with this kind of playing/singing

when we were there and the place was packed full.

A new pastor came in and started using "contemporary

music". Most everybody LEFT. THE OLD HYMNS ARE REAL!

  • @4freespeech Amen to leaving, this type of I know best by church pastors is far to common. My family left a church under similer circumstances. I think the old gospel music is the best.

  • bluegrass is the best!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this old bluegrass music...thank you so much for sharing it!! I held my cell phone to the speakers of my laptop to let mother listen to these songs. she had a blast! thank you so m uch for blessing us w/this priceless treasure

  • Love it...great music!!

  • Thank you so much for sharing..

  • I wonder why people frown when I show this kind of music around Church. I wish people would still have the passion and love for this kind of music. Our world is changing, however we can always go back to this footage and admire the blessing that these songwriters and musicians are and always will be.- Christopher Ramos

    San Diego, CA

  • @chrisramos1992 Maybe they don't have the same spirit of kinship, with Anglo Saxons, that you have, Chris.

  • Carter had a great voice

  • The Stanley Bros version here is great. I'd also like to put in a plug for the version performed by JE Mainer & His Mountaineers, on JE's 1962 LP "Run Mountain" (Arhoolie) .. where JE performs all his old hits of the 1930s, & more, in his one-&-only-ultra-authentic, unique style, only this time with his adult children in the band + a few of his old-time musician buddies. Great harmonies - both here & there. Wonderful posting !!

  • Born and raised on the Stanley's, Monroe's, Hinson's, and the Goodman's gospel style. In my village we still sing these old hymns that I love. However, i start noticing a switch to more contemporary writers. Which is good and full of soul in it's own right. But, I'll stick to what borne me through much darkness.

  • yeah man carter is ringing them

    bass notes.wish there was more

    videos with carter and ralph.

  • This is a national treasure. Wonderful. I particularly love the way Reno is playing the mandolin part...on the banjo. His banjo solo is essentially a mandolin solo, that is, he's playing more of a mandolin part than a typical banjo solo. Is there any chance of re-posting this with the audio cleaned up a bit?

  • @bfrank531 Don Reno was considered "THE BANJO PLAYER" by banjo players..You can buy this ...Reno And Smiley DVD...it is a great..I have it on VHS!..

  • Super talent. Thanks for the pick information. I always wondered how it was done. Wayne

  • carter had a thumb pick . and index finger pick its down and down then up stroke with the first finger pick. , when you played runs and bass note you pause play the run and start your picking hope that helps

  • This video is great, thanks for posting this!

Wayne- carter played with a thumb pick, which he used to hammer out the bass notes while he strummed the high notes with his fingers.

  • @Mendon87 He played in the same style as Lester Flatt..That is why they had those HUGE PICK GUARDS..They would wreck a guitar around the sound hole...

  • BEST vid on youtube if ya ask me!

  • @Rcksaltnnails Well, we don't ask you :D

  • @bigbabies Didn't! hehe

  • So good to have this back! Saints be Praised and Thank You!

  • THIS IS whats its all about. Praisin.. by shoutin and singin! Are you serious..... We ALL should be happy, tickled, joyed beyond words that we have this awaiting us. How can you NOT sing songs like this? Joyous, wonderfully cheerful tunes...Wonderful, WODNERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have nothing against the sad songs of worship and praise, but I tell ya, when I am rejoicing I wanna get up and be joyful and happy!

  • How many fingers is the guitar player using. Wayne

  • Wonderful to have this back on YouTube! Thank you so much for reloading!!!

"Over in the gloryland" by the Stanley Brothers was my very first catchy tune at all. I remember my mother and me singing along with this song way back in '73, when I was just four years old. Aint it cool how music can make you think of a special time in your life and suddenly you start to be happy?

  • I love this music too. Like you I was born in 69 and got to know it in the mid seventies over here in Germany. Some of my most wonderful memories are with Bluegrass Music. We still play it and always will.
