Would your life be any different if this prostetic arm was controlled via wrist buttons (that could be programable by mirroring your other hand?) instead of impulses?
@rme1188 If it had buttons, I would have to use my other hand to use the prosthesis which would still render me one-handed so I think that misses the point.
This looks bloody amazing!! If this question dos not seem weird but is it weird being able to rotate your hand more then 360 degrees? I hope you get great joy out of it. =)
oh i thought those hands had the same functionalities as real fingers... that you could really move them independently. I guess that's the next challenge in prosthetics :p
@Jonasv20 I hope they get to be on par with "real" or "natural" hands. This is the research that is worth, what is the price for a hand? which price would you put to your hands? I still don't know what is LHC good for, for instance.
Few questions. What kind of connection does it use for your computer and is the interface program used very large? I was wondering if it would be possible to perhaps put the program in a portable device. Also, how much gripping power does the prosthesis have (like a pound limitation and psi? Sorry if this is too technical, I am just curious.
@InfectiousShroomKid The connection to the computer is wireless via bluetooth. The control software is a few megabytes and afaik TouchBionics is already working on a version for handheld devices. The grip force in power grip mode (all fingers moving) is 10.2kg (100N) without pulsing and 13.9kg (136N) with pulsing.
man this combined with that neural impulse technology for computer gaming and such we are well on are way to Deus Ex styled augmentations hell yeah man
@MeGoRAWRZ Prices vary a lot between countries. In Switzerland, the entire prosthesis (hand, wrist rotator, custom socket, electrodes, battery etc) is around 60000 CHF. Of that, the share of the i-Limb hand is around 35000 CHF. This technology is very expensive and unfortunately most insurances don't cover it (yet).
I'm intrigued, can you move the hand in ways aside from the assigned ones you showed in the video? And also, in comparison to your normal hand, how different does it feel in terms of mobility and movement? Does it work the same sort of way moving your regular hand, where you just do it and it happens, or is it very deliberate thinking and movement each time you want to move the iLimb?
@rot0001 The hand's built-in pressure sensors make it grasp objects adaptively (see my other vids) so it looks as if it moves differently. Also there's 16 different modes to choose from. It feels very different in comparison with the normal hand: It is slower and gives no tactile feedback. But I am now at a point of proceduralization where the hand moves when I imagine it to move, i.e., I do not have to consciously think about flexing certain muscles in the residual limb. See my Paxman-vid.
@hexmeohdear dude... there's a slight difference between replacing a *missing* limb with a prosthesis and replacing an *existing and healthy* limb with a prosthesis.
@myowelt Excuse me sir but Adam Jensen never asked for his prosthesis. It was total "accident" and still most of the people hated him because he become more than a human...and yes i'm gaming nerd sorry :D
@myowelt good example, now you need to improve the actual thing by working on the prosthesis with your one real hand. You need to make it such that it does not cause gangrene, such that it lets you type as quickly as I can type, etc. Also, if you ever need Linux, is there a version for Linux or will you create that yourself?
how much did you paid for it? cuz in africa alot of ppl fall vitcims of landmines and i want to know how easy or difficult would be for thoose victims to acquire one of thoose arms.
@fbxcore The internal battery is -afaik- a 7.4v 1300mAh LiOn. On an average day, I get about 12 - 14h of battery life. I charge it overnight with a wall plug.
@NameWilliam Human Body augumentation ? yes... there is already some sort of drama cuz one guy wich was a great sportsman, he lsot his legs in a car accident, now he is using titan-carbon-something wich allows him to continue running... he already beats up world record in ruining ... twice.
As Technology continues ill give it a crap if somone use Augumented body part likes this hand or even an eye jsut to have normal life.
- but if somone manages to use it in military - ill opose it myself.
@NameWilliam sure it was in news, saddly in my home-language - u wont understun a thing and im not familair with BBC or CNN sites to search it, anyway that guy is called Oscar Pistorius. Lots about him in Wikipedia, Google and maybe youtube... its kinda fascinating that guy without his own legs can actually kick ass, and scarry in same time... cuz he ends up beign better than any healthy sportsman within his own natural legs. immaginate his legs to be a military use... Mine-traps ? not aganist.
Hola, me gustaria saber los costos de estos mecanismos, yo perdi tres dedos de mi mano izquierda, los dedos menique, anular y medio, gracias por su ayuda!
The color scheme on the ilimb reminds me a lot of Cyborg from teen titans, I look at it and expect it to fire a sonic cannon. Its pretty cool. sooner or later they may develop one in the near future, that could respond to the higher brain function.
@555russe I flex the muscle that would angle the wrist of my left hand if I had one. Angling the wrist produces an electrical signal on the skin that is picked up by the electrodes in the socket of the prosthesis. Angling the wrist outwards produces a signal on the outer side of the arm, angling it inwards on the inner side. Thus, there are two "channels": One for opening, one for closing (the red and the blue lines in the diagrams).
@jfrizzlle Also, Luke's was cut off by Darth Vader, his father. This guy was born without his lower arm. Though I guess those can be related, as they were both connected to parentage. Also, Luke was a Jedi. This guy is a doctor.
@suzah100 how can you make a comment like that about the I Limb Pulse, for us amputees who wear them, the arm is wonderful, many many thanks to touch bionics for creating such a wonderful device out of regular electrodes that normally only have the function to pen and close a hand, like otto bocks garbage C clamp which i wore for 5 years, then now i have an i limb pulse, for them to think of using the electrodes to have triggers for us to be able to do many things with the hand , fat pig!!!!!!!
