Do you know that yesterday an islander born in Malvinas, son of an islander who fought in the conflict of 1982, became an Argentine citizen? He was born in the islands in 1968 and he applied for the argentine nationality since he is an argentine citizen like all islanders. One day we will celebrate all together.
the Malvinas aren't a nation and have no right to self-determination; should Muslim areas of Bradford be allowed to join Pakistan if they wish? The Malvinas were seized by force by Britain in 1833 and the colonists who live there have no right whatsover to 'opt out' of Argentinian jurisdiction. The UK's stance is hypocritical when you consider the population of Diego Garcia, who were forcibly deported from the island by the British government. Not much respect for self determination there!
@kepuysac they were British before 1833. The Argentines invaded and placed a Penal colony there which was disbanded by British troops. The Argentine civies were allowed to stay, only the Argentine forces were thrown out. Look up real history and not the bullshit you're spoon fed.
I wore the same pair for several years and used dubbing on mine but they still got soaked and I still got terrible bloody foot sores that only didnt hurt cos i was so damn bloody cold, wet and knackered.

Hong Kong was a 200 year old treaty signed for and agreed with china! the UK kept the promise of the treaty by handing it back (by then Hong Kong was the worlds 3rd largest financial sector - so China are grateful for what Hong Kong became!) - In fact, China have hardlky changed a thing in HK as it makes them so much money! The Falklands are different - its the Islanders home to the 9th generation, they are self governing and self ruling and under the protection of the British they are free!!!
58 pattern is all they had in 1982, although the SAS/SBS and royal marines did have access to American ALICE Webbing, i don't understand why he's wearing it though, and the bergens and 58 Pattern webbing are really comfortable, he's just a sissy
Yeah, i heard they redesigned the standard backpack because it was crap (according to my uncles!) and the bergen was a hit because of its comfort. I cant obviously vouch for combat experiences but i own a bergen and wouldn't swap it for anything! Although, the Russian 'Berkut' Rucksack looks decent...
he is a moaning sissy, he hasnt even got a helmet, or a rifle, many soldiers had to carry a rifle plus an anti tank weapon ( which was a heavy mother trucker ) or a GPMG which was also heavy,
Good point mate! I bet the FN was a heavy beast to carry plus all the ammo. Not to mention, like you said, the jimpy or AT. Don't envy any Falklands vet for that alone!
the FN isnt as heavy as you might think, but after many Kilometres i bet it was a right heavy bitch, My father Volunteered for the Falklands but they turned him down
Did you know america supplied amphibious APC's, helmets and other equipment to argentina in the assualt on the falklands? They are shown in the film and i have probably not noticed a lot of other things!
yep, Aircraft ( F4 Phantom Fighters ), Amtrack ambhibious APC, Armalites (M16) M3 Grease Guns, they also had french weapons ( Exorcet Missile ) and Panhard armoured cars, they had german weapons ( G3A3 and MP5 Silenced ) they also had Belgian weapons ( Full Auto FN FAL ), they had many different pieces of equipment from many different countries
Actually, the aircraft were A-4 Skyhawks (the Argentines never flew the F-4, although the RAF and RN did). Their air force had 46 A-4B/C in service, and the navy some 16 A-4Qs. Also, the amtracs were LVTP-7s, similar to those operated by the USMC at the time. The Argentines had Israeli Dagger fighter-bombers (34), and British Canberra bombers (6), along with 2 Type 42 destroyers, of the same class, ironically, as the HMS Sheffield.
The Argentines did not have F4 Phantoms, but the smaller light attack aircraft the A4 Skyhawk, a totally different plane! (Also it's spelled exocet, while i'm at it)
yeah, that's what i meant. I just wanted to point out to someone that argentina used a lot of american weapons. But you're right, america had treaties with britain and argentina at the time so didnt want to get involved
Yes, spain may have done but there British now. I'm there on deployment for the next three months go on have a crack at it i'm gessing that you won't be able to take it therfore its ours so stop wineing and for gods sake call them the falklands not las malvinas.
you're a british soldier? How grand! hopefully, them argentines won't try anything rash, lest they get one hell of a surprise. I've heard they've set up plenty of British bases so as to make sure they'll be no surprise invasions in the future. Falklands belongs to the British, it always has and it always will. God save the Queen!
Even when Spain restored Port Egmont to the brit in 1771 to avoid a war, Spain never gave up sovereignty over the islands as Argentina is doing today.
Port Egmont is in West Malvinas but in 1833 the brits claimed both islands as theirs.
Port Egmont was a clandestine militery post not a civil settlemnet and Spain found it when researching the island.
you said " economically viable " that would have happend either way eventually.
And neither did Britain ever relinquish sovereignty and the Spanish settlement was never more than a military outpost. Both sides, claimed both islands. There was nothing clandestine about Port Egmont and in fact it was the British who first discovered and challenged the other settlement. Spain never did anything other than maintain a small garrison at Puerto Soledad, it never attempted economic exploitation.
And Spain at no point transferred sovereignty to Argentina, you may have pretensions about what you "inherited" from Spain but thats all they are. You gave up any claim with the Treaty of Settlement in 1850 when Britain and Argentina settled all differences. You claim is legally and morally weak. Bullying such a small territory, who clearly express their chosen path is simply wrong. Time you guys realised it.
toot.. I don't know what history are you reading lately but the Malvinas was part of the Spanish empire for 400 years long before in 1690 John Strong neamed it falkland the French named the island les Malouines, Malvinas in spanish, france handle over to spain after they paid for the expenditure and acknowlegded them as spain territoy.
For your information spain never name the island before because spain separate the american colonies by zones, Malvinas was part of the viceroyalty of Peru.
Oh you're not going to try and claim the Falklands on the basis of the Treaty of Torsedillas or the papal bull are you. Well the papal bull is just that, utter bull, the most corrupt pope in existence carving up the planet between Spain and Portugal. It utter nonsense, and the fact you've even brought it up merely shows how desperately poor the Argentine case is.
It seems the International Treaties are not worth for you. Sure it is more practical to have a huge military base with thousands of soldiers and long range armament to support your "ideals".
Gentlemen - those Islands, whether you call them Falklands or Malvinas, are populated by British citizens. The islands where unpopulated prior to their colonialization by Spanish Argentina or Britain. The fact is that like New York was once New Amsterdam, the enduring settlers are British and thus they are the indigenous people of the falklands- they are British Islands because we look at the people not geography, particularly when Argentina itself is but a colonial country
they aren't indigenous - the people who were originally there are. like in america - the native americans or 'indians' are indigenous as they were there before british and irish, etc. people went there.
The Falkland Islands were UNINHIABITED before the arrival of SPANISH and then BRITISH colonisation. At no point did they have american indian natives there an certainly not Argentinian colonization. To say that they are Argentinian islands is absurd because the ONLY colonization was undertook by British people following a handover by the United States Navy after they'd destroyed a Spanish fort (not Agrentine...)that had attacked the USS Constitution. Argentinia NEVER had control of the islands
Hawaii is nearer the US than the Falkland Islands are to the UK. The Falklands Islands are just scraps of Britain's Imperialist history. I am ashamed of that oil-fuelled war and of the pain it caused, just like I am ashamed of Iraq. War is not romantic, people died and still do - are your proud of that?
It's hardly a question of distance, distance is nothing, particularly in this modern age. British citizens that dwell on the Falklands are culturally closer to the 'metropole', and frankly, I see no reason why they should be abandoned as much a any other part of the UK. And unfortunately a violent attack can only be countered with violence.
damn English, it wanted that the day in which arrived they go away of my islands (Argentine ground) by the good ones or by the bad ones! that we lost the war, but 8 sunk boats and 24 damaged do not forget their 1050 died compatriots and its 154 destroyed airships I glorify to all heroes that they gave the life by the mother country and to all the veterans military who even live The Argentine Falklands by always!
I don't give a damn; the Falklands War killed and abused too many people - I can't condone either side - the UK was wrong to do what they did, Argentina was wrong to do what they did - too many people were hurt in the name of... what?
what the uk did was wrong??, defendind her land??? if Hawaii was invaded i think the usa would attack and one one would question. how did the uk do anything wrong in that war, and in was in the name of freedom for the falkland islanders, who are british and proud to be so.
the Uk went wrong by doing it. because of that war, of that tiny place, grown men have had broken lives - they have horrific burns, mental conditions. they are broken men. where's the freedom in that? can we be proud of that? that war was never for freedom, just oil.
In the name of what? I'll tell you what. In the name of Freedom and Democracy. I was in that war. Like 99% of my fellow serviceman we were proud to be there and risking our lives for the rights of the people. If we do not stand up to bullies and our people then we become slaves. If we'd stood up to Hitler in 1938 perhaps millions of lives would have been saved. Sometimes you have to fight and meet aggression with aggression.
I've seen documentaries on the falklands both from Argentina and from Britain. The one from Argentina claimed that the British shelled Port Stanley and killed several civilians while the British documentary claimed that the Argentinians would gather up civilians and put them inside of barnhouses with padlocked doors as make shift prisons. Seeing as you were there what's your honest account of what happened and did this kind of stuff actually happen or is it just propaganda???
I served in the Flagship, HMS HERMES, during the war and then a year later I served for 6 months in Port Stanley. At no time did I hear of either of those claims and would consider them propoganda. Any Naval Gun Fire Support (NGS) from sea and air attacks were directed at the airfield area, which is quite a distance from the civilian houses in Port Stanley. The naval guns are very accurate and it is unlikely that any shells would accidentally fall in Port Stanley.
Geographically the falklands belongs to Argentine, but the people who lives there are britsh descendent...geography makes history or the history makes geography? it doesn't matter...WE ARE IN 21th CENTURY
Geography has nothing to do this. The islands were uninhabited when they were first discovered, by the British, we had the first territorial claim and, despite what anyone else wants to say about treaty's and deals or papal edicts granting land to whomever, thats what counts. We found it and, after a period where it was insignificant to us, we decided we wanted it back. Simple as that.
Why do you say 'geographically' the Falklands belong to Argentina? In the past the territorial limit was 3 nautical miles from the coast. This was increased to 12nm in the 20th century. The economic zone/limit was only put at 200nm in the last part of the 20th century. By then the Falklands had been settled by the British for a long time. So what is your 'geographic' claim to South Georgia which Argentina also invaded?
Duck You really got no idea where the Malvinas are look at a world map Argentina is at 400 miles from Malvinas and england is at 6000 mile o more from it, your country took the island by force in 1833 since then we claiming it so you should think again and go to your goddamn island up the close to europa.
The British reclaimed the Islands in 1833 after an attack and eviction by Spain on the British settlement at Port Egmont in 1771. After 1833 it was the British settlers who made the islands economically viable. The invasion of the Falklands was motivated by Gen.Galtieri & his Junta's attempt to distract the Argentine people from the failures of their government. The fact that the bona fide inhabitants of the Falklands wanted to remain British were ignored.
It's funny how words work for us you're the invadors of our territory the Malvinian want to remain controlled by the brits and the Junta used the Malvinas retake for political reasons and Margaret Thatcher won the re-election even though her first term was a disaster, old those soldiers that died in Malvinas in our mind are heroes but in the eye are just dead people and the Malvina are Argentinians and not your fuckland.
It is sad that you have to resort to foul language.
ALL the soldiers, sailors & airmen in the Falklands War were heroes. But the way the Argentine generals treated the conscript soldiers was shameful. They did not want to be there fighting the British & were happy when it was over.
There is a memorial to the Argentine dead in the Falklands, but when representatives of Argentina were invited to attend a memorial service for the Argentinians who died in the war they refused to attend.
In the late '80s I clearly remember veterans begging for change on buses in Buenos Aires. The Argentine government treated them worse than shit. Every time I hear some sanctimonious twit talking about their "heroes", I think of those young men and the people walking by avoiding their eyes.
The Falklands remain British because that is the choice of the people who live there, its time Argentina had the moral courage to respect them.
Yes I remember too 80s, 90s and I remember other chosen to wake up every morning and going to work, the adversity of life bring the best in ones and the worst in others.
The Malvinas remain brit because the people choose so, oh please give me a break I heard that many times before, we all know why.
England can't afford to have them Malvinas Islands always are going to depend on the continent, they always were they always will be, in time everything is going to fall in place.
Just to correct you, its Falklands, has been since 1690. Malvinas is a contrived name, and even as recently as pre-WWII it was Las Islas Falkland in Argentina. And I'm not sorry if you've heard that before, Argentina might once have stood a chance of convincing them different but the invasion of 1982 and your confrontational attitude since has guranteed that ain't gonna change. The Falklands economy is booming and Argentina's is headed down the toilet again, we'll see.
You seem to be ignoring the fact he was a rower for the Oxford University Boat Race Team three years running - those rowers - Cambridge and Oxford, are physical machines - capable of things and containing strength; mentally also that we could never accomplish and they have to have great minds to gain entry to those Universities.
I did the battle field tour in 1991 when I did my tour of the Falklands. Nice walking country side.

I don't give a damn; the Falklands War killed and abused too many people - I can't condone either side - the UK was wrong to do what they did, Argentina was wrong to do what they did - too many people were hurt in the name of... what?
wildehewlett 4 years ago
what the uk did was wrong??, defendind her land??? if Hawaii was invaded i think the usa would attack and one one would question. how did the uk do anything wrong in that war, and in was in the name of freedom for the falkland islanders, who are british and proud to be so.
lydiahhh 4 years ago 3
the Uk went wrong by doing it. because of that war, of that tiny place, grown men have had broken lives - they have horrific burns, mental conditions. they are broken men. where's the freedom in that? can we be proud of that? that war was never for freedom, just oil.

Seeing as you were there what's your honest account of what happened and did this kind of stuff actually happen or is it just propaganda???
alexalva27 3 years ago
I served in the Flagship, HMS HERMES, during the war and then a year later I served for 6 months in Port Stanley. At no time did I hear of either of those claims and would consider them propoganda. Any Naval Gun Fire Support (NGS) from sea and air attacks were directed at the airfield area, which is quite a distance from the civilian houses in Port Stanley. The naval guns are very accurate and it is unlikely that any shells would accidentally fall in Port Stanley.

Falklands - British. The people - British. Does it matter how far away?
JohnFerns 4 years ago 8
Geographically the falklands belongs to Argentine, but the people who lives there are britsh descendent...geography makes history or the history makes geography? it doesn't matter...WE ARE IN 21th CENTURY
Greetings from Argentine.
diablillo299 4 years ago
Geography has nothing to do this. The islands were uninhabited when they were first discovered, by the British, we had the first territorial claim and, despite what anyone else wants to say about treaty's and deals or papal edicts granting land to whomever, thats what counts. We found it and, after a period where it was insignificant to us, we decided we wanted it back. Simple as that.
WEAJonesy 4 years ago
Why do you say 'geographically' the Falklands belong to Argentina? In the past the territorial limit was 3 nautical miles from the coast. This was increased to 12nm in the 20th century. The economic zone/limit was only put at 200nm in the last part of the 20th century. By then the Falklands had been settled by the British for a long time. So what is your 'geographic' claim to South Georgia which Argentina also invaded?
Atts51 3 years ago 2
Duck You really got no idea where the Malvinas are look at a world map Argentina is at 400 miles from Malvinas and england is at 6000 mile o more from it, your country took the island by force in 1833 since then we claiming it so you should think again and go to your goddamn island up the close to europa.
LasxMalvinasxArg 4 years ago

Las Malvinas son Argentinas.
LasxMalvinasxArg 3 years ago

The Falklands remain British because that is the choice of the people who live there, its time Argentina had the moral courage to respect them.
tootiredtobeoriginal 3 years ago
Yes I remember too 80s, 90s and I remember other chosen to wake up every morning and going to work, the adversity of life bring the best in ones and the worst in others.
The Malvinas remain brit because the people choose so, oh please give me a break I heard that many times before, we all know why.
England can't afford to have them Malvinas Islands always are going to depend on the continent, they always were they always will be, in time everything is going to fall in place.
LasxMalvinasxArg 3 years ago
