@Denton13173 I'm trying out for my third year this year (and hopefully third year being accepted) for Iowa All-State. This is my FAVORITE piece. Gloria is murder. I'm an Alto 2 and that fugue section at the beginning and how high the whole thing is, is killing me! Haha Good luck to you and your group at audition time! :)

@kailyruth Sadly my school is too large to send every one wanting to try out. I was cut in our schools first round of auditions. I am a bass and my favorite song is Barefoot. Simply beautiful. Im from waukee was a freshie beat me out. Needless to say i was enraged! The runs in gloria are what got me. I took a meausre out for a breath and i believe my directors assumed i was lost.

@Denton13173 I'm from Davenport Central, and we don't have enough people trying out! We need more. The melismas in the alto part aren't nearly as bad as the bass part! Barefoot is...very simple. I like it, but it's really very simple to the ear and I wish they would have picked something a little harder, but that's just my opinion! I think the best way to avoid taking a measure out for a breath is to make smaller breaks in the phrases and to take one big gut breath at the beginning!

@kailyruth Alas i have lung and heart problems so I'm always short in breath. Bare foot is simple yet gorgeous. Gloria is by-far the most difficult for a bass. Maybe ill come out to DC for all-state. You have an amazing show choir do you not?

@Denton13173 Ahh. That would make more sense! My choir director likes to joke that I have "The Iron Lung"! Check out: Domine Ad Adjuvandum Me by Martini. Try the NMMEA All State Choir. I had the alto solo in the middle my Junior year. Gloria is by-far the most difficult for any part! I think All-State is in Ames in November. Some time.. Haha I like to think that we do! Yeah, this is definitely one of my favorite songs we are doing for Iowa All-State. When i was at Wartburg and we did the final taping of this song..it just sounded awesome with every singing together.

Yup! I was just at the Wartburg camp. There was also a basketball camp, and one time in the supper line some basketball girl was saying "they're just CHOIR GEEKS!"

I have never heard this Mass before, until I heard used it as backing music on the TV the other night. I am more familiar with the Bach masses. I'm afraid a lifetime may not be enough to familiarise onself with all the great works. This is a wonderful version.
