Just got my case of mre's in the mail today and I was surprised the omelet was in the case. I tried it tonite and I don't think it was that bad at all. But Like he said it is not great by any means. Mine did not come with tortilla shells but came with the verde. Plus my heater broke half way through the heating process so I ate it warm. Iam sure it would be better hot.

When you "can" in a retort pouch to make an MRE you have to heat the product under pressure (ie can at higher temp than boiling) to insure sterilization of the food. If you know anything about cooking in general, or eggs specifically, you'll know that temps that high will murder eggs and leave 'em in a shallow grave. Safe to eat, but you need a cast iron stomach to keep it down.

I'm in the Army Reserves and we CAN pick and choose and there's a SHITLOAD of Veggie Vomletes left over. I can eat the omlete in a pinch, but I eat it for the high protein content. The whole meal comes with a package of freeze dried granola with blueberries and milk. It's the same stuff Mountain House puts out, just in a military MRE packaging. It's really good and you can eat that instead of the vomlete. It's also easier to open ur entre by turning it sideways and cut it open longways.

Hah, my sister's boyfriend brought over the veggie omlete MRE as a food challenge, I ate it, was pretty good actually, then I tried some with the salsa verde, was even better!

He was surprised I was able to eat it, and I posted that I ate one on facebook, and all my marine buddies were like ewwww and oh gross!

I can't wait to try all the others when I enter my training. :)
