  • @marcuciMr yes it was written by jimmy web,he did 2 albums with Harris Mac Auther paark a concept record about a man leaving his wife then gettiing back with her and another racord "The yard went on forever", aan obsure concept album, which bombed...sshame ssomee good tracks on it,Harris's brother was his manager, great actor..see the movie "This sporting life".....

  • Wasn't it written by Jimmy Web ?

  • This all fit on a standard 7-inch, 45-rpm record? Unbelievable. For this song, Micro-groove technology must have been developed, or at least perfected.

  • Regarding Hey Jude, in an NME interview in 1968, Richard Harris said, "I see the Beatles are following us now with long records they've just done a 7 minute single. Actually it's a 3 minute record with a 4 minute fade."

Indeed it was, but the BBC's newly-started Radio One played it constantly, whereas Macarthur Park was played by only a few of its DJs: Tony Blackburn, Alan Freeman, Barry Mason and David Symonds, yet it still got to No. 4. With fairer treatment it could have topped the charts.

  • Just Great! I listened this here in Finland when it appeared. Just Great!

  • I'm actually surprised that this 7:30 long song fit onto one side of a 7" record!

  • Hard song for the singer; I can't deal this with the wrong hand, because audiense waits for an unforgettable song. I almost cry when I choose this to listen... After all... wondering why...

  • Most of the time it doesn't. In this case it was dirt knocking the needle out of the groove.

  • Beautiful song definitely, i still have the 45 single record. Brilliant.

  • Not many know that Richard Harris could sing(he's the old wizard in Harry Potter who died),thanks to show nice song, I knew it from when I was little, good lyrics and good orchestra a classic!I think it's one of the longest songs together with paradise by the dashboard light of Meatloaf.

  • I bit offtopic, but there are some old rock songs that easily surpass it, time-wise. Sweet Smoke comes to mind, and Thick as a brick uncut.

This is irrelevant to this song. It was before my time, so I view it as a fresh discovery. it truly is a great find.

  • what do u use to wash ur vinyl's

  • Dish detergent and water.

  • Not to be condemning you (As that's what I Use) But how does cleaning a record stop it from getting stuck? I have a 45 of "I'm Free" by the Who and the b side has a place where it gets stuck.
