I remember paying $50 for front row tix for Journey at Nassau Coliseum back in the 80's. Back then, that was a ton of money. But it was well worth it. What a great concert!! Too bad Steve Perry has slipped out of the limelight.

steve perry and neil schon r soooooo dynamic. what a great combination. its really ashame that steve is no longer in the band. its not the same with out him
I wasn't a big fan until my wife introduced me to them many years ago. When she passed away last year, listening to Steve Perry and the band always reminds me of the great times my wife and I had together. Lovin Touchin was one of her favorite songs...I've worn out a lot of Journey CD's over the last 12 months...
Yeah, without trying to get his voice, I don't think I would go see Journey, that's what makes him so gooood!!!! Still I will pay anything to see him again!!!!
@tysonjohns You and ME both!! He can park his shoes under my bed ANYTIME!! @NoSteveNoPoint What made you the authority on SP's personal life! SP never did drugs, especially cocaine. Didn't even smoke pot. Said all that was bad for the voice. Being the professional he was, he stuck to only what was healthy for his voice and career. Avoided drugs, alcohol, and groupies.
@punkchickkool Wake Up MORON! Have you ever SEEN anyone on coke? If so, Watch " 1981 LIVE IN HOUSTON" concert. The Jaw grinding, the teeth clinching, ETC! LOL I'm Perry's biggest fan, so I'm not dissing him. They ALL did coke! Steve was on drugs BAD when Herbie Herbert first learned of him in 1973. ( read the 2001 interview of Herbie Herbert ( their Manager) Again, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know this.
@NoSteveNoPoint Wake up MORON yourself. No, it doesn't take a 'rocket scientist' to know this (what would a 'rocket scientist' know about drug use anyway!). It may take someone who works with addictions though, and that be me. Perry is known for his high energy on stage, not to be mistaken for cocaine use. If high energy constitutes cocaine use, then I guess Arnel is even a bigger user of it. Most know Herbie is a pissed-off liar. Only the misinformed & gullible pay any attention to HH at all.
@punkchickkool Believe what you want, some people just don't WANT to know the truth! Do YOU know Perry?? LMAO! And JAW GRINDING is not high energy you idiot, it's COCAINE! Oh but I guess everyone that knows Steve is lying, right?? DUHH
@NoSteveNoPoint Better than you do, that's for sure. You can bet pretty much everything HH spews forth about Perry is a lie. Pissed cuz he could never control him, as he could the others. Thought Perry would be easy, but wasn't so. SP had a mind of his own, that couldn't be controlled or bought.
@NoSteveNoPoint YOU must be EVERYONE then. You, making up shit? Surely not! Not you! But then, some people just like to spout off about anything. Gossiping about someone is not a wise thing to do. To say such things about someone who has carefully guarded their health and professionalism is not smart. I would only state what you absolutely know. Which obviously is not the case here.
@punkchickkool Are you really this dumb or is it an ACT? Look up Journeys RAISED ON RADIO interview from 1986 and tell me they ALL aren't drunk?? LMAO You're so naive. And if he took such GOOD care of his voice, then why did he lose it at 34?? The "Oh Sherie" Steve and the "Open Arms" Steve are TWO different voices. Oh but YOU know so much about Steve that I'm SURE you have another reason for his voice going from a CRYSTAL CLEAR COUNTER TENOR, to a RASPY, SCRATCHY TENOR! Again! DUHHHH
@NoSteveNoPoint At 62, Steve still has his voice, never did loose it. Steve has many different voices - it is called singing in different octaves, which entirely changes not just the range, but the tonality. SP is a 5-octave singer. DUHHH. This adds greatly to his versatility, which most are aware of. The huskier range is part of his appeal to many. Are YOU really this dumb, or is it an ACT?
@punkchickkool Hey Moron?? I"M a singer, I'm a vocal instructor. Steve voice CHANGED, it's not called versatility. If that were the case, he could go back and sing like he did before his voice got raspy. HE CAN'T. ANY vocals from " Street Talk" on foreward was raspy. WISE UP. ALL tenors lose range as they age, but Steve's started going at 33, WAY too young for AGE to be the factor. Believe what you want. Steve had the best voice in the history of MUSIC, sadly, ALL GOOD THINGS MUST END
@NoSteveNoPoint Oh, you're a singer AND vocal instructor! That explains it. Was wondering how you seemed to know so much! Do you have YouTube videos posted? We would love to hear you sing! You have always sounded like the consummate professional! BTW, I never said SP's voice did not change. It is obvious his voice, in all octaves, became raspier. Women LOVE this! Vocal attrition was obvious with the later sounds. It happens to many. Please, if you are such a fan of SP, don't disparage him.
@punkchickkool You don't even know what an OCTAVE is you MORON! I simply told the reason his voice got raspy. It wasn't Perry TRYING to be sexy. DUHH. It was VOCAL DAMAGE, and yes even with the damage he could still sing. 75% of great singing is in the BRAIN, not the vocal chords, so even after he lost his clean HIGH TENOR, he could still sing ON KEY and with soulfulness ( that you women love) Now stop arguing something you know nothing about.
@NoSteveNoPoint Perry never had to TRY to be sexy, he just IS. whatever he does. It must chap your ass knowing you will never be anything close, nothing but a low class, low life trailer trash MORON that you have shown yourself to be, continually on these boards as well as on Arnel's boards. If you are so smart about music, please educate us uninformed just what you think an octave is. After all, you are the "vocal instructor". Yah right. Like anyone believes you are a 'professional' anything.
@NoSteveNoPoint We are so completely in awe now at your awesomeness. Let's consider all your areas of vast expertise that are so impressing us. Hmmm. Oh yes, expert on cocaine, drug usage, alcoholic behavior, voice, music, vocal coaching, rocket science, delusional behavior, and now the brain. Oh yes, expert also on Steve Perry. You are amazing!
@PsiBetaRoux He did not quit touring do to a non-functional voice. His voice still functions fine. His reasons for quitting the band and staying out of the limelight are purely personal.
@Virginiagardener actually Steve got a problem with his hip and the others in the band decided to go on without him then the drummer left the group because he thought a Journey without Steve Perry is doomed to fail. I sure miss his beautiful voice
This is a band that once played to over 60,000 screaming, adoring fans in sold out stadiums ... hence the term ARENA BAND -- they helped define the term! Venues with 20,000 seats were far too small for a band so huge! Not nowadays of course ... no way!
oh how i love steve perry he's the only singer that belongs with journey, arnel what ever may sound like him a little but it'snot steve. please come back don't stop believing.
Amazing voice. one of the most recognizable and unique voices in music (along with getty lee, ozzy and robert plant) but somehow the most duplicated and replaced singer - and each new singer sounded so similar... Great recording - Thanks for the post.
@jonpaulevans I agree one of the most recognizable, but Journey keeps trying to replace him with sound alike singers, but none of them can cut it, none of them can sing like Steve, he is truly one of a kind and cannot be replaced.
@jonpaulevans he is also credited as one of the songwriters on almost every Journey song that the replacement singers are trying to duplicate ......but can't
@gh9448 Hey "spell-checker" you notice the person who uploaded this video spelled "Perry" as p-i-e-r-r-y...Hmmm - must not be a real fan to make a mistake like that.
This is one of my favorite Journey songs and this live version is EVERYTHING. I feel like Journey CD's don't really do his voice justice. Live, you just feel everything. Perfection.
Me too!!! I was 16 years old! Plus, Loverboy to open the show!?!? To this day still my best concert and trust me when I say this;I go to a lot of shows....check out my clips of when I went to see them recently here in the Tampa are with Cheap Trick and Heart!

I am also a Steve Perry fan. Use to have poster on
my bedroom wall back in the 80's. I think maybe one
of the reasons he does not sing anymore, is because
a lot of his songs were in high notes. As you get older
you cannot hit those high notes anymore. If you ever
noticed Elton John sing 'Benny and the Jets'. He can
no longer hit those high notes. I'm sure everyone would
love to hear Steve Perry sing again anyway.

Which obviously is not the case here.
punkchickkool 6 months ago
Again! DUHHHH
NoSteveNoPoint 6 months ago
@NoSteveNoPoint At 62, Steve still has his voice, never did loose it. Steve has many different voices - it is called singing in different octaves, which entirely changes not just the range, but the tonality. SP is a 5-octave singer. DUHHH. This adds greatly to his versatility, which most are aware of. The huskier range is part of his appeal to many. Are YOU really this dumb, or is it an ACT?
punkchickkool 6 months ago
@punkchickkool Hey Moron?? I"M a singer, I'm a vocal instructor. Steve voice CHANGED, it's not called versatility. If that were the case, he could go back and sing like he did before his voice got raspy. HE CAN'T. ANY vocals from " Street Talk" on foreward was raspy. WISE UP. ALL tenors lose range as they age, but Steve's started going at 33, WAY too young for AGE to be the factor. Believe what you want. Steve had the best voice in the history of MUSIC, sadly, ALL GOOD THINGS MUST END
NoSteveNoPoint 6 months ago
@NoSteveNoPoint Oh, you're a singer AND vocal instructor! That explains it. Was wondering how you seemed to know so much! Do you have YouTube videos posted? We would love to hear you sing! You have always sounded like the consummate professional! BTW, I never said SP's voice did not change. It is obvious his voice, in all octaves, became raspier. Women LOVE this! Vocal attrition was obvious with the later sounds. It happens to many. Please, if you are such a fan of SP, don't disparage him.
punkchickkool 6 months ago
@punkchickkool You don't even know what an OCTAVE is you MORON! I simply told the reason his voice got raspy. It wasn't Perry TRYING to be sexy. DUHH. It was VOCAL DAMAGE, and yes even with the damage he could still sing. 75% of great singing is in the BRAIN, not the vocal chords, so even after he lost his clean HIGH TENOR, he could still sing ON KEY and with soulfulness ( that you women love) Now stop arguing something you know nothing about.
NoSteveNoPoint 6 months ago
@NoSteveNoPoint Perry never had to TRY to be sexy, he just IS. whatever he does. It must chap your ass knowing you will never be anything close, nothing but a low class, low life trailer trash MORON that you have shown yourself to be, continually on these boards as well as on Arnel's boards. If you are so smart about music, please educate us uninformed just what you think an octave is. After all, you are the "vocal instructor". Yah right. Like anyone believes you are a 'professional' anything.
punkchickkool 6 months ago
@punkchickkool SEEK HELP MORON! You're obviously DELUSIONAL
NoSteveNoPoint 6 months ago
@NoSteveNoPoint Your gig is up. Perhaps you should give up your delusion. It would be healthier. Steve prefers ladies.
punkchickkool 6 months ago
@punkchickkool The only DELUSION is in your MORONIC brain you Dumb ass!
NoSteveNoPoint 6 months ago
@NoSteveNoPoint We are so completely in awe now at your awesomeness. Let's consider all your areas of vast expertise that are so impressing us. Hmmm. Oh yes, expert on cocaine, drug usage, alcoholic behavior, voice, music, vocal coaching, rocket science, delusional behavior, and now the brain. Oh yes, expert also on Steve Perry. You are amazing!
punkchickkool 6 months ago
@punkchickkool Who is WE?? LMAO, you mean YOU! DUMBASS
NoSteveNoPoint 6 months ago
@PsiBetaRoux He did not quit touring do to a non-functional voice. His voice still functions fine. His reasons for quitting the band and staying out of the limelight are purely personal.
punkchickkool 6 months ago
@Virginiagardener actually Steve got a problem with his hip and the others in the band decided to go on without him then the drummer left the group because he thought a Journey without Steve Perry is doomed to fail. I sure miss his beautiful voice
darthgabriel97 7 months ago

@jonpaulevans you forgot Rob Halford man
Metalstryke 1 year ago
@jonpaulevans I agree one of the most recognizable, but Journey keeps trying to replace him with sound alike singers, but none of them can cut it, none of them can sing like Steve, he is truly one of a kind and cannot be replaced.
stinkwitch 1 year ago
@jonpaulevans he is also credited as one of the songwriters on almost every Journey song that the replacement singers are trying to duplicate ......but can't

@gh9448 I like rush a lot. But you've clearly proven to be a true, huge fan by spelling his name correctly.
jonpaulevans 1 year ago
@gh9448 Hey "spell-checker" you notice the person who uploaded this video spelled "Perry" as p-i-e-r-r-y...Hmmm - must not be a real fan to make a mistake like that.
jonpaulevans 1 year ago
@jonpaulevans aaaaand Freddie Mercury. Can't forget him.
This is one of my favorite Journey songs and this live version is EVERYTHING. I feel like Journey CD's don't really do his voice justice. Live, you just feel everything. Perfection.
awilderbj 1 year ago 3
@awilderbj It's a hard call Freddie to me is the best, but Steve is a close second if not joint first :) Definately the two best vocalists ever :)

@jonpaulevans No one can beat Steve though, imitation is the best form of flattery though eh.
