Tom Waits - Austin City Limits 1978 ... I was there. I saw him live. Steven Good got us the tickets just in time for Steven's twenty something birthday. Jeez, we all were so young then.
Thanks for uploading this impressive video. I love Tom Waits. The thing is my english is not perfect. Would someone be so friendly and write everything down what he sais from part 1 and 2 ? That would be amazing. I hope there is someone out there who would do it. My email is : s-t-e-a-m @ web . de
Jack Kerouac was far too shy to be a performer, he instead rendered his whole soul into his writings which went on to inspire guy's such as Tom Waits.......
If there's ever a Napster like backlash, I will gladly participate in some sort of membership consideration. I'm wondering if there are any clips from Tom's appearence on VHS storytellers. The man can certainly tell a story.
In response to the guy who wants Waits off the net: I disagree. I'm all for artists being unmolested in terms of their art, but, fuck, how else am I going to get to actually see Waits perform?
I can't remember the last time he was in Toronto, and even if he showed up, I probably couldn't get tickets either because they'll be sold out in minutes, or I just won't be able to afford them. So I'm all for videos being uploaded, especially of his old stuff.
Agree, no luddite preaching please, I flew from East Cast to San Francisco just to see him play 5 songs, was worth every cent, and I would buy this Austin City Limits DVD in a second if ACL people ever get their heads out of their asses and start issuing DVDs of great concerts they had
you are a HYPOCRITE!!! How do you intend to kill the internet and promote live art... by using the internet and it's services? YOu've watched hundreds of videos by your profile. How about embrace a technology that would allow people to see a great performance that would otherwise be BURIED by time and obscurity.
Why tom waits? I mean, of all people, why is it SUCH an atrocity us to be enjoying TOM WAITS on the internet? why not any other artist?
Aren't you missing the point?: We're STILL HIS FANS! Just because we got it off the net, doesn't mean we're bad people. This is the only way I can enjoy his performances! Cut us a fucking break!
and yeah, Long live art, humanity and tom waits! (Regardless of your opinion of the internet!)
ive been a tom waits fan for years now. the songs always seem to inspire me to get some lyrics together and put them on paper. must put em to music. WoW
i haven't read any kerouac so i couldn't disagree or agree with that statement. But i do think absolutely that waits is the greatest musical (or overall performance-) artist alive.
Jack Kerouac < Tom Waits. Tom's a total artist. He does everything right: the lyrics, the music, the vids/performances... the ambience... He can cheer you up or trash you, make you see in black & white only - he's the modern Orpheus, true bard and one of he very few living artists with so much class.
The trumpet player is the god of the horn. Mr. Miles Davis.

Somebody, please clip these two parts together into one single song. The pause ruins the flow of this awesome song.
