People suing for asinine reasons is not as frequent as tort reforming propagandists would like you to believe. If there is any group that is too litigious it is massive corporations and their corporate lawyers. There are certain things that citizens should have redress for damages caused by companies or corporations. The only reason tort reform is such a popular issue is because it's another attack plan to lower costs and increase profits for the people who really run the country.
Amazed people are trying to make this a 'democrat' issue... our ENTIRE POLITICAL STRUCTURE sold out to special interest groups like 'trial lawyers' ages ago. Wake up you partisan idiots... you're as much a part of the problem as congress and their special interest buddies are.
You DO have a point, the entire system is rotten to the core. BUT, that does NOT excuse the Democratic Party's fealty to the Trial Bar, nor address the destructive effect this has on the Medical System.
I am a practicing physician. I have had one MP suit in my 18 year career (much better than the 1:2.5 years average for my specialty). Still that suit took over 2 years of my life, cost me three weeks of work and my defense company >$125K to defend. And it was a fraudulent claim.
That's outrageous. He's saying: it's not in the bill because Congress is too lazy to fight for it. Forget the fact that it would decrease health care costs.
No No, not too lazy, Too greedy! The plain and simple truth Dean is speaking of is that they (both parties) receive massive amounts of cash from the trial lawyer lobby. That is what is outrageous!
Are you telling me that when I write "trial lawyers are on Democrats side" that I mean 100% of all lawyers are Democrats? Are you that ridiculous?
As with teachers & journalists, most trial lawyers & their associations donate to, vote for, & back Democrats. Why? I can't say for sure, but I can say that Liberals are more litigious than most people because they want to take things from others, they want to use laws for social engineering, & their moral code comes from law instead of religion.
I'm not a huge Howard Dean fan, but I really admire him for speaking the truth on that issue. I respectfully disagree with the president's comments that defensive medicine only contributes a small part to healthcare expenditure, but had still wondered that even if he thought it was contributing at all, why he wanted to avoid any mention of it in his recommendations for reform. This supports my suspicion of the loud silence on tort reform.
Wow... did he just say that? I'm not sure whether to stand up and clap because a Democrat told the truth or if I should be angry that they could care less about "making enemies" with the 250 million or so who don't want this! Why are they so scared of making enemies with the trial lawyers, but no the American person (person as in individual)?
They are scared because it's the trial lawyers who keep shoveling money at them when campaign time comes around. If you tick them off, they cut off a major revenue stream.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you... more.
These politicians lost all understanding of what it means to be a statesman decades ago...
There's also the little fact that most lawmakers are themselves lawyers.

Trail lawyers like John Edwards?
Dean finally admitted that the DNC is in the hip pockets of the trial lawyers.

--Actually trial lawyers are on Democrats side. Get informed. And both parties have lobbyists after them.

Informed? Are you trying to tell me that lawyers aren't lobbying for the RNC????
