We all have such large holes inside of us...unanswered questions, and we go to great lengths not to talk about them, or even to try and fill up the holes with meaningless words or acts, but it never works. That's the sadness. We need to confront what it is we're missing, and have faith that what can fill up the emptiness inside of us is within our grasp.
My girlfriend, the love of my life, and i sitting in our rent-controlled New York apartment reading, not talking, yearning for each other but, never reaching out. I cry every time I hear this. I really do Sharon.
@Billysrose71 ... Exquisitely done, and to be able to take such a beautiful and meaningful song and "dress it up" is a wonderful talent. i've subscribed to your channel Mr (Ms) Billysrose and I wish You and Yours the Best of the new Decade and many more good years after ... Respectfully, Daniel Carroll, Sunset Beach, CA
First of all thank you for the kudos on the imagery. Sadly, I had not been to a single S&G concert, so I can not answer this for you. I agree this song is both sad and beautiful at the same time. The lyrics are so deep and profound and a lot of marriages are like this.
No words are good enough to express the way I feel listening to that song! S&G have written the best lyrics I 've ever heard, not only in this song but in so many others too...
So true Billsrose71! The images you matched with the song are well-chosen. It must have taken a long time to put it together. Now hopefully lots of people will be able to hear this poignant song.
I wasn't trying to convey a message of love or anything otherwise. I was trying to just do a slide show of scenic pictures. I love the song and the tune. I agree with you about the meaning. I can also see it as possibly being about a marriage falling apart. Two people who had been together a while falling out of love, going their seperate ways. It's sad either way.
this song is about UNREQUITED love and although I applaud the time and effort it took to prepare this video it totally misses the point of the song. this song is not about people in love, but about NOT IN LOVE with one another. the images of the song are metaphors for people out of love. it is immensely sad and hopeless but highly poetic and delicate nonetheless.
Definitely my all time favorite by Simon & Garfunkel.......Beautiful poetic words and too Emily Dickinson has always my favorite poet. No artist could make a record like this today. A peice of music to treasure!
but it was a little too intellectual to hit the top 10. Brilliant, but heavy. If they made videos back then, Liz Taylor & Richard Burton would likely be in this one!
One of the most touching and beautiful songs out of Paul Simon's book, together with "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Overs" and "Old Friends". The first time it stunned me, the second time I nearly cried.
Don't get angry but the video imagery is truly poor.
gorgeous tune and voices. over-written lyrics. simon wrote much better songs before this and even more brilliant ones afterwards.
he went on to understand pure simplicity and tact. and to add his ironies and post-modernist touches in songs like 'only living boy' and 'me and julio' and best of all 'hearts and bones'.
Thank you! I had seen in an interview somewhere that S&G said that this was their fave song they'd ever written and it took so long for them to write it, but boy could those boys write! It's a gorgeous melody and the lyrics blow me away!
I can't believe it took me so long to find their music. This is a beautiful song.
