I've followed Journey since 1981 when they released Escape. I'm a big Steve Perry fan and would have loved to see Journey reunite with him when Steve Augeri left and Jeff Scott Soto was fired. But I've heard the new CD, saw the concert DVD and agree that Arnel Pineda is the future of the franchise!

Well, it's all about ego unfortunately. When Journey released Trial by Fire in 1996, they could not go on tour to support the album because of Perry's hip ailment. Perry did not want surgery but instead wanted rest and therapy. It did not work. By early 1998, the rest of the band (Schon, Cain and Valory) wanted to go on and tour so they hired Steve Augeri on vocals and their former bandmate Deen Castonovo on drums (also gone was Steve Smith).

Steve truly is unparalleled no question about it.This is what most of Steve Perry's fans didn't know.Arnel is a big fan of Steve.A huge influence of his singing career that's why he likes to sing Steve's song.He claimed in many of his interviews(Fil)that he doesn't get offended when being compared to Steve to the point of being scrutinized because he himself want Steve's autograph when given a chance.Arnel is a very good guy. You don't see any act of arrogance when he guests in many Fil shows.

Deen Castronovo played with Jonathan Cain, Neal Schon and John Waite in Bad English in 1989 after Journey disbanded. He joined Journey in 1998 after drummer Steve Smith was let go. I just saw the Revelation Concert DVD. I never really paid attention to Deen's drumming, but he's outstanding (and he can sing the hell out of a song-see his version of "Mother Father" on the DVD. Incredible.
