I am 58 and I have enough savings to live fruggley until I can collect SSI. Thats the good news. The bad news is that the life I saved for will not happen. It is a good thing that I missed those expensive vacations, I didn't go out to eat very often and it, no new cars, no nice houses etc... I sent out over 1000 resumes for engineering jobs with not one call. I then decided o go for any job. They ask how much I made at my last job then they tell me I made too much and would not be happy. Wow!!!
I am a Sr. Manufacturing Project Engineer. I have been llaid off since Oct. 2002. The last 7 years of my career I watched as all my peers were laid off and fired. The major world wide corp. that we worked for move all their product to Mexico and S.E. Asia. The reason I was there longer was do to the need to move the product. After all those years of not taking vacations do to the work load and 50 to 60 plus hrs a week I lost my job. The recruiters told me it takes a job to get a job.
