  • when I was young I never considered Stray Cats as a great band but now I just think Setzer is a fantastic wonderful player...respect!

  • Good God!

  • Badassery.

  • well, he's using a tube echo..so that 'doubles' the sound...sounds like two guitar players palying at the same time. he does quite a few 'educational' vids on playin.

  • i like your video! by my son, Max.

  • Fookin awesome!

    Thanks for posting

  • Wow, what a treat!

Has anyone ever noticed that his eyes look like McCartneys?

Thanks for the post... off to watch more!

  • My God were any of us ever that young?

  • Wish I could make my Gretsch talk like that!

  • i think so, too.

  • filete este wn

    la cancion es clasica...

  • I just wonder how the hell can he get such a full warm sound with tons of sustain using a clean channel... he sounds just like if there was an overdrive...

  • es el amo!!

    Gracias Brian por tu rock&roll

  • Yeah it's Brian alright :), damn he play style is so.... Original, no wonder many people likes him :)

  • His hair is awesome!

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!

  • Best way to describe a Gretsch guitar: "twangy". Sounds great.

  • か・・・かっこええ!!

  • bueno la neta no

  • algun dia are eso

  • eeyyy, nice doo slick. grease those licks nice and smooth!

  • helz ya daddyio

  • I'd like to own just ONE of those old Fender amps he uses LOL On second thought, I'd like to have'em ALL LOL great vid...thanks for posting 5*****

    ROCK ON...

    SPLITT

  • I admire his speed of switching between his pick, and using his fingers, it's not that easy!

  • what i want to know is how he curls his hair into the middle of his head, like in the Stray Cat Strut video when he sings "Gettin my dinner from a garbage can" i mean how does he do that?

  • is it me, or did anyone catch this...thats the same gutiar he used on La Bamaba?

  • He does have a fetish for the Gretsch 6120,buti doubt that this one is the same as he used on the La bamba movie. the knobs are diffrent. I had to check the La Bamba vid again, to see if he played his (now retired) "Stray Cats"6120, but he didn't.

  • second thoughts just play it to use on the main bass line type riff it sounds cool ,,its great tune

  • drop the E string a whole tone to D for that oppening twangy stuff then avoid it or try and tune it back up to E ;)

  • The parts where he switches to finger picking is badass.

  • i love his crazy hair!!

  • when i sung this with my jazz band i had that hair. it was realllllly hard to get (i have thick, curly brown hair)...it involved a lot of hairspray

  • its all about cut and grease..

  • i think it naturally grew like this on his head ;D ^^ ... god thought:"hmm, let's not forget about that rockabilly stuff some years ago." so he made brian ^^

  • actually this should have been an answer the boybandmassacre's "i love his crazy hair!! " ... dunno why it's here ...

  • Haha what a great comment you wrote here;)...

Ye it is the best job God has ever done.. Creating Brian;)

  • ...and before that a tone driver of some kind...

  • the cordmaster :-)

    awesome.

  • Take it easy guys, Ricardus is right, he definitely "steps" on a wah pedal at 3:50, he's also using the Bigsby. Nevertheless, it's an amazing video. He's effortless.

  • Go Brian!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brian is great, make me feel like living in the mid 50ties. I love the early Sun records Elvis did. Brian reproduce this sound perfect. I love the younger Brian because his style is more raw and powerful compared to the recordings in 2004 for example. Age matter of course. But most important: Brians musik have a soul, cause he can speak emotional with the guitar. This is the signature of a real master.

  • Setzer is BRILLIANT- BUT.....here after the 1st solo (or 2nd) ? whatever the fuck he`s playin` ain`t ROCKABILLY.....( I mean the solo`s obviously)

  • dont hassle the talent...

  • did anyone else notice he's in drop D? I never noticed him playin in drop D. maybe he just did it for playing the song solo, add some bass. makes for a nice low end walking riff. cool video.

  • A hundred albums, and you still can't tell the difference between a wah pedal and a phaser?

  • Most certainly using a wah in this song.

  • Yeah, thanks Roger, I own 4 electric guitars, two of which have vibrato arms/tremolo bars, I know the difference. I'm also an audio engineer and have been involved in the production of over one hundred albums and CD's. I know a wah when I hear one. Best Regards.

  • My mistake - you are right!

  • Hardchord666 - sorry to say but he's not using a wah pedal anywhere in this song.

  • Ummmm..... then what explains that sound between 3:50 and 4:00??

  • Ricardus - you are just making yourself look silly now. Brian is using a Bigsby vibrato arm on his Gretsch to change the pitch of the strings up and down. Wah is a pedal on the floor like a car gas pedal that applies a movable narrow band pass filter to the signal. Have a look at Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Chile Live at Woodstock - you can see him working it.

  • I think its a wah with phaser, while using the vibrato arm. A wah with phaser.

  • Just a wah.

  • this guy can make riffs but that solo just sounded soo made up and never use a wah in rockabilly.a good song but the guitar solos ruined it in my opinion

  • lol, you all are freaking out about a person that can play the guitar. so what? lots of people can play but why worship this guy? sure he's good, but you're taking it too far."study the dedication and contribution of Setzer...then you may speak. We may even pay attention." .....honestly?

  • I think it can be put this way: Brian Setzer helped reinvent Rockabilly in the 80s. He is a very underrated player in the mainstream field. This is a guy who was blowing jazz teachers' minds at 15.

  • Ahh Funk? If you are a TEACHER, you should really learn how to spell the word first before you preach to us. Also, form your sentences correctly - I'll think you'll find you missed an 'I' somewhere? 5/10 stay behind, see me,correct your work, study the dedication and contribution of Setzer...then you may speak. We may even pay attention.

  • And UKViking that was just immature. There wasn't even a valid reason for saying that from what I could tell.

  • You know, I have an appreciation for Van Halen, Vai, Buckethead, Lifeson et. al., but this style of playing, in particular the way Setzer has MASTERED this unique instrument, gives me a whole new appreciation for what it takes to be a true guitar virtuoso. Can I get an AMEN on that people?

  • Holy fucking shit. If I could play like that, I don't think I would ever stop.

  • This guy is just so good! I'm not really into Rockabilly but this is so cool!

  • you said it

  • I know some of you are going to think I sound like a complete asshole...but PLEASE don't mention guitar hero and Brian Setzer in the same breath...Music and musicians have already suffered enough...

I'm a highschool teaher/professional musician and if hear of one more kid who spends time playing guitar hero instead of learning a real instrument, I'm going to scream! IT'S A !@#$ING VIDEO GAME!!!

    Maybe we need another flood...

  • FunkCowboy, I understand you, but let me tell you I have musician friends, people who plays blues, and they have great fun playing Guitar Hero. As you say, it's a videogame, and thats all. Videogames are done by artists too. I know that because I worked on that.

The great thing is I can not play guitar as my friends, and they have no idea of drawing as me, but we can meet all together in a middle field and have fun.

Oh, and Brian Setzer is a genius! (to not be a complete spammer, hehe)

  • guitar hero isn't art it is a fucking game og match the buttons to the notes being played by real artists now fuck off

  • Artists as musicians, as people who creates illustrations or writters? all those people is createing games aswell, and they have talent. Learn to separate PLAYING games than CREATING games, then learn to think, but I guess it's too late for you.

I can enjoy music, games, books, movies, comics, animation, and lyrics. I guess you enjoy spamming the internet when you find someone who not thinks like you. Just remember, thats a neverending task, because you just do NOT think at all.

    Now Fuck off.

  • lol no

  • Thanks for your reply...I appreciate the art. (Warning: I'm about to sound a little pretentious...) BUT, if you really are concerned with art, then why wouldn't you paint something, draw something, or create something that in some way contributes to humanity? Why would you waste your talents on creating a game meant to do nothing more than amuse people???

Your "gift" can inspire people, create meaning, change lives etc...and you've wasted it on a mindless video game???

  • Now who would spend time enjoying themselves? I mean really, what a waste of time.... No, for real though, all sarcasm set aside, if you've watched tv, played a computer game, or watched a video on youtube, than you have spent time entertaining yourself. Is guitar hero wasteful? Yes. Is guitar hero more wasteful than any other form of entertainment. No.

  • What about me then? I got extremely good at guitar hero- I ranked 198th place over EVERYONE who had hosted their scores online for expert mode. Yet I'm actually a drummer. Guitar hero is still fun to me (obviously), but it's also a fun game for those who aren't really musically inclined.

I hate all the "Go play a real instrument!" hate that guitar hero gets- Imagine if that rule applied to a game like Grand Theft Auto?

"Just go waste everyone in that building!"

They're video games. Get over it.

  • I think it's very funny that you've grouped yourself (a drummer) with those that aren't very musically inclined..lol.

But seriously, I earn part of my living by working with teenagers. Do you have any idea how many teenagers admit to being addicted to useless video games? In my opinion, video games not only are fruitless, but prevent real/healthy socializing. We (our society) already spend far too much time simply amusing ourselves with electronic gadgets. There's no excuse. DO SOMETHING!

  • I didn't group myself with those not musically- I said

"Guitar hero is still fun to me, BUT it's also a fun game for those who aren't really musically inclined."

And I know what you're saying, but really most people don't actually get addicted to video games to where it consumes their lives. Sure, they may play them a lot, but USUALLY a person will put down the controller to hang out with a friend.

  • musically inclined*

  • "I'm a highschool teaher/professional musician and if hear of one more kid who spends time playing guitar hero instead of learning a real instrument, I'm going to scream! IT'S A !@#$ING VIDEO GAME!!!"

Thank you for writing that. I agree. I'm surprised that so many here actually admit to using that game. You would think that they would be embarrassed.

  • He's so good at such a young age...I can't get over it...Every time I listen to this guy play, I think at some point, "How'd he do that bit???".

This is the first time I've heard him use a wah!?!?

Listen to those chords (augmented, diminished, 9ths and flat 9ths)...there aren't many guitar players who know their way around that kind of theory and can still rock...So good!

  • :P like me... but im 15

  • love the sound of that guitar!!! but what a price too :-(. Its gonna take me some time to collect enough money for that one.

  • you know some body who can do more ?? that guy is the king of the guitard

  • Awesome, just awesome.

    The mans a legend

  • Brian Setzer es la chingoneria

  • Right so, by my estimate, his guitar is tuned to drop D. Seems to be the best way to play this version of Rock This Town.

  • Anybody know how he gets that dirty sound? is it just his tube amp?

  • brian is such a 50's dude BUT HE IS FREAKIN RAD

  • great as usual, he is the best in this gender.

  • Gender? u meen gerne

  • i meant genre, thanx

  • Just Awesome

  • Brilliant!

  • harking back to the 80`s here Goooo! Brian

  • Blasphemy! He holds a Gibson at the start! ;)

Brian is still, on my top 3 guitarist's list along with Buck Dharma and Tony Iommi!

Rockabilly Rules! Seeing him and Stray Cats on their farewell tour the 30th of August in Denmark!

PS: Gibsons are great guitars aswell, i play an SG ;)

  • Have you listened to Tommy Emmanuel?

  • 2 different things, as coca-cola and wine!

  • My grandma knows him personaly! She used be good friends with him before he became famous. no joke

  • Rock N Roll!!!

  • You really rock in town, Brian!

  • "replay".. "replay".. "replay"..

  • Jeje Brian Setzer pede hacer lo que sea con la guitarra, es el mejor

  • I would like to know how old is he...

    I love this music.

  • how bout wikipedia? @ mybcrichguitar

  • He was born in 1959, so he is about 49 years old.

  • It doesn't get much better than that IMO.

  • Everyone should listen Brian Setzer at least from time to time

  • how do you figure?

is it cause he's really down to earth and doesn't brag about his talent and acts like he's just like you or me?

or is it cause he's a gentle dude and keepin' the legacy of classic rock greats alive?

or is it cause he's amazing at guitar?

cause yeah those deffinately are things that make him a dickhead

    ... oh wait i think you're a dick head

    anyone agree?

  • Hahaha. Nice!

  • Brian Setzer makes ya want to pile ya hair up high, get some tatts, an old coupe and rock your little ass off. The best!!!!

  • brian. setzer. kicks. ASS.

  • Such an underrated guitar player.

  • It is because he wanted a BAND, not a solo act. It shows that he is NOT an arrogant dickhead, like some people think. He is way talented and a nice guy to boot.

  • absolute badass

  • this is an awesome song

this guy is super good at the guitar

  • Love his hair..

  • i absolutely loved when he went into the wahwah

he was wowin' me already then he totally broke it down shook the whole piece up

i think that all great artists go into something totally outa control and awesome when they really get into their piece

it's like when marty mcfly in back to the future gets really into johnny b. goode and everybody stops playing cause he's freaking them out

  • When is this from? he looks so young

  • Brian is just dangerous.

  • Ahh! Did he really have to use that pedal effect at 3:50???

  • does it matter? he still rocks, ya nerd!

  • It doesn't fit with what he's playing.

  • Maybe, but at least he is'nt afraid to try something different, he is still the best! Give credit where credit is due man!

  • Oh of course. Setzer is my favorite guitar player, but I just didn't dig that effect. Im not bashing his playing at all.

  • Nice to hear that Bruce, he is ace, and a very versatile player. No hard feelings!

  • I had no problem with that little 1% of the song! It rocked just like the rest of the tune!

  • yes youre right....a wahwah-pedal doesn't really fit to rockabilly music..

  • This dude bleeds tone and technique. A lot of what he does, especially note content, doesn't necessarily meet what rockabilly is. He has elevated the genre and pushed its boundaries. You can't expect that he isn't going to do a few very unorthodox things. He rocks, you listened to this video because you like what he does. Let it go.

  • i did not say that i don't like it. but rockabilly is bass drum and this great jazz guitars and maybe some trompets

  • and his hair is still amazing...

  • I've had the pleasure of meeting this incredible dude 3 times over the years...ah it's great to live in Santa Monica

  • Ahhh I love that great Gretsch sound!

  • Brian you rocked ! And always will .

  • i'll agree... but les paul speeded up his recordings... by a lot!

  • Without Les Paul(still living) there would be no Brian Setzer or Rev. Horton Heat.

  • Seriously: There are what? --10, maybe 20 dudes in the world that can wail like that?!...

    Viva Setzer!

  • --NEWSFLASH--

You heard it here first, fans!

--With some practice that little guy might just turn out to be pretty good some day! Don't give up Brian; you definitely show promise!

  • Gotta love that great Gretsch sound!

  • DAYUM.....David Spade could play Brian Setzer. He looks like him. BTW.......This is cool.

  • Thanks for uploading, it's helped me learn it properly.

You aint far off of Brian Setzer yourself StrayMouse keep rocking!

  • BRILLIANT! GENIOUS!

  • he is just awsome, i cant get enough of him.

  • It doesn't get any cooler than this.

  • gotta admitt thats damn cool!!

  • I like how he went drop D on it because he knew he wouldn't have a bass player to back him up. And I think this is the first time I've seen him use wah. Great video!

  • i love how he stays on time through out the whole song with out any backing.

  • perfect tone

    amazing musician

  • gretsch is a very good guitar and a lot of artists of different styles use it but ive never seen anyone playing a gretsch like him... elite!

  • back drunk???:P

  • he has the coolest tone, didnt know he used a wah!

  • man this guy is a freakin gun

think of doing this piece for me VCE music guitar piece.

    Long Live Stray Cats

  • BRAVO !!!!!

  • What a gorgeous guitar. Looks like it was made with tiger maple.

  • DAMN. He's fucking good.

  • stray cats a living legend!

  • Brian is awesome. He makes me want to learn how to play guitar.

  • He makes me want to quit guitar.

  • man did they break up? if they did that sucks

  • yeah... he fired the bass and drummer... now its just him: stray cat (removed the s for savings)

  • was that recently? I saw him with the whole group doing a tour with ZZ Top and The Pretenders just last August

  • Haha, where does that put Slayer? X-X-X-XL Heavy Metal?

  • I seriously hope you don't think this is heavy metal? :P

Correction: ****** Rockabilly at it's best!

    Setzer > God

  • brian gave guitar lessons to metal players already signed back in the '80's...this is a subdued brian compared to his earlier recordings...in the early 80's albums with the cats he smoked the world

  • The BIG CLASS!!!!!!!!!

  • Brian Setzer must be on Top 10 of the best guitarits ever.

  • no. I also can do this so I should be in your top ten too :D

  • just u and about 100 other guitar players could mimc this,he wrote thiswhen u could erits this good than make that kind of reply

  • Great, Post something, I'd love to see it if you got mad skills. Do you also have nunchuk or bowhunting skills?

  • Great guitar man!

  • damn. im a metal guitarist but this guy has skill!

  • Don't make mistake 6120 are not similar to 512x.

Setzer's got real 59' model too. But anyway 6120/512x both good guitar with different price and spec. I've got both.

  • It's sad to think Gretsch guitars are made in China, or Japan for the most expensive ones... But I don't think it's the case for his.

  • on the headstock of mine it says

    "MADE IN KOREA"

its still beautiful and plays wonderfully

  • ALL original gretsch yr:1959 md:6120

    are made in america

  • yeah go brian you effin' rock!!

  • i love this video, but i'll admit when he goes "huuh" at the end i always crack up.

  • Love Brian ang his 59' thanks to post that!

  • ...don't like the wahwah with rockabilly better for Hendrix.
