No one can say Giresun is Pontos. Because Giresun did not established by Greek people or Turkish people. Greek people and Turkish people settled down there almost in the same time. Good that you accept they were also greeks (rums) in Giresun till 1922.

Original name of Giresun is kerassus/kerassounda.

But remember that only rums that did not converted to islam did left Turkey (only christians had to leave following the Traite of Lausanne).The islamic "rums" did stay there and finally mixed with other turkish populations. But some are still speaking the original language which is antique hellenic dialect (romeyka).

Giresun is probably the cutest city on the Black Sea coast. I have many friends from there. Lemme quickly say sth about Yarbay Topal Osman Aga. He is one of the myriad heroes of our Independence War. Not a slaughterer. Simple and plain.

He wasn't put to death penalty - he was killed in a conspiracy which targeted Mustafa Kemal's life. But surely he had many foes who also wandered around Mustafa Kemal.
