just lovely-could be the theme song for all adoptive moms of kids with Reactive Attachment Disorder-I will do what your own mother didn't do...all the pain, all the violence, unhappiness...all we can do is mother...lovely, Sinead.
@TelecasterLPGTop you do the best you can, sometimes love is not enough, but you try... I know I have with the 4 children I have adopted... you pray for all the others to somehow find love in an often loveless world
Lovely, Sinead, just lovely. I keep playing this song and never get tired of it. Fair play to you yet again. I'm so proud to be Irish when I listen to you.
Sinead pronounces mother as "mudder". Real dublin accent, even though she's from a posh-paddy town called Glenageary. But it isa lovely song. I hope people who have lost a mother recently - or years and years ago - listen to t his song. They do need it, honestly.
I am a gay adoptive dad. Our first son was born prematurely and suffering from many drug-exposure related problems, and I would play this song over and over as I rocked him gently during the quiet moments when all we could do was hope. Each tear I shed over him was a prayer for healing light. This song was such a wonderful support. And by God's grace, our son is just fine and a happy 5 year old who is the light of our lives and of all who know him.
I dont do crying coz im a guy and guys dont do that kind of thing - but this song brought tears to my eyes... beautiful song... very beautiful and gentle song
I had a hard time with my mother cos she did not have a mother for her. the lyrics are beautifyful and if Sinead gives somebody a sense of self care that is the song!!!
This may sound a little Gay. But I was at my Brothers place last week. Not to sure if I was going to survive. I was not too sure I even wanted too. I was in a lot of pain, but I got up for a long walk Just before it Snowed around 3.AM. and played this tune...I Froze my ass off..But I liked this song. I Love your music Sinead. It got me home. Thankyou
I always love her performances , this was my very frist time to ear this awesome performance whith those extreme words , made me realize some things to keep me going on . ☆☆☆☆☆ALL☆STARS☆☆☆☆☆
I heard this song last night on GEMS website and I instantly felt touched, it made me sit back and really think and for some reason I am feeling a more natural impulse towards motherhood being that I am carrying my first child.....I love it!!!
One of my all-time favorite songs ...she may have made some mistakes that hurt her popularity....but when you listen to the lyrics and vulnerability in this song....it's like a lullabye for any one who needs to feel loved.
@bidlakbks yes it is thats so well said this my sound weak but ive got a freind whos doing this for me right now asa former soldier and the life iwas delt this is alien to me and now i know can say all those things i should have said so long ago so they will leave me and not haunt me anymore i hope someone like me has this luck thanks to a dear friend i now feel loved bless her x
The version w/o Mary Blige is from Sinead O'Connor's "Gospel Oak" CD which was produced in June 1997. The album includes five other songs as well that you can hear bites of on Amazon. I bought a perfectly working used copy at Amazon for around 4 bucks which included shipping.
Where did you find the original version? I also prefer it to the one with Mary J., though I do like Mary J.'s other tunes. Just prefer the simple sound of this version.
I love this song,, I am a proud grandmother of my grandson , I am raising him now ,he has gone through so much , he is only 7 mths , at 3 weeks old his father passed away, and his mother has chosen to walk away, but he has me and he always will,,he has been in hospital for 2 mths ,but he is getting stronger everyday ,, I love him so much
It's about God's love: For when you need me I will do What your own mother didn't do Which is to mother you All the pain that you have known All the violence in your soul All the 'wrong' things you have done I will take from you when I come All mistakes made in distress All your unhappiness I will take away with my kiss, yes I will give you tenderness For child I am so glad I've found you Although my arms have always been around you Sweet bird although you did not see me I saw you
Saved me from me, and reminded me the importance of my mother, even though she was gone from this planet...it reminded me of her love so powerfully.......thanks Sinead!
It's so beautiful! Giving hope, love and comfort...
Perfect music too. Reminds me to Enya's songs. I just love Irish artists (Enya, Sinead, U2, The Corrs...).
Somehow Irish music and way of thinking is quite close to the Hungarian's, I mean folk music, rythm, themes... and troubled history... I think we are brothers and sisters somehow. In soul at least, for sure. : )
wow. that song just gets to me. My mother is as perfect as humanly possibly so Ive always felt especially sad for those who didn't have a good mother. I actually got choked up after watching this.
I'm an american who had first heard this song on vacation (holiday) in london.I heard this being played at Tower Records in Picadilly Sq.The first time I heard it I bought the CD single...Over the last ten years, this is still one of my all-time favorite songs.P.S.also give "In My Arms"by Plumb a try .
my therapist played this for me and it blew me away. My own mother did not not does not mother me. I have a long life need for this. This song is so healing
