what is it with people catogrising tunes?Bukem especially used to play a mix of d'n'b and jungle..never heard anyone complain about that..get with the program people and just enjoy it
i was there too, from 92 onwards.the scene changed so quickly along with all the different terms that were used.ive got hundreds of records from back then.all bought on the strengh of the tunes, not which genre they were.so stop being fucking hipsters and enjoy the music
@bobbafet2008 jungle's what i called it back in the day ,so to me that's what it still is,ragga is only one particular style of jungle & D&B normally has less complex breaks but it matters to me not.
@wanker391 so did you ever hear Hype, Andy C, Ron, Brockie and the crew ever play this style of music?? I was there & I didnt. Andy C played DnB early on in the day but then digressed into the more commercial aspect sounding Jungle. This is was and always will be Drum & Bass. Respect Photek.
@bobbafet2008 I was never really that into the ragga stuff, jungle techno & ambient jungle was/is more my bag, i prefered hype before 94 for example when i heard him play @ obsession-innovation 93 , along with the fucking awsome ratty set. You say respect photek, then just enjoy the fucking tune & stop bleetin about genre!
'ambient jungle'?? hahahaha NOONE EVER used that term EVER in 93-95. you was jungle or you was Drum and Bass. Thats a term invented by the media or boffin students. Again, stop reading wikipedia mate. The scene had moved on along with technology and a lot of people were trying different things with new tech. Oh... and I'll BLEET about what I like if I disagree, thats what this is about MATE. :) Anyway... bring back Ratty... I miss him!!
@deezezet no it isnt. It is NOT derived from Ragga Dance Hall music, which is where Jungle takes its influences from. This is D&B. And what that guy says about less complex breaks... try telling the to DJ Crystl. LMAO at you 'experts. I was there when this all started, so maybe people should respect someones view who was actually there and not based on what they 'think' they know from what they have read on Wikipedia & the like.
hmm .. i still don't understand, why you're so sure about that. just because jungle takes it influences from ragga dance hall music, doesn't mean, that this tune isn't jungle. (btw. what about uk hardcore as influence?) anyway, i would say, that in the history of development of this "music"-styles there AREN'T any sharp / clear-cut boundaries, because one style follows from one or more existing / current styles, isn't it? so the boundaries are flowing.
for example "l double & younghead - new style" from 1996 - anyone will rate this track as jungle. and its style isn't SO far away from the style of "the sentinel - heavy vibes". but ok, maybe you're right and this style is closer to dnb. it's ok to me.
ps: i never said, i would be an expert, hehe. you were there, so probably YOU are. ;)
Amen to this!
