  • what is the name of intro song?

  • Mate, where is the Deluxe Big Muff?

  • The 76 !

  • Nice collection!!! do you collect ac30 too? ;)

I have a sovtek russian green,a russian black, and an american from late '70s....with switch tone...and....with a lot of electric problems.

    I love the green one!!!

The american is ok for siamese dream's songs

P.S.try to use more tone and less gain

  • what do you think about the modern big muff?

  • you can never have enough muff

  • which big muff do you think is the best

  • I like the Russian one and the Rams Head. G

  • @blondegraemey I prefer the Sovtek one myself too, kinda thin but not lacking in punch. For some reason it reminds me of Delftware.

  • @Desmaad Or, more likely, Gzhel.

  • Hi G. Your vid is a great help. I've an NYC Muff from new in '07 & have been disappointed with the tone as I was trying to get the comfortably numb sound. After watching loads of vids on youtube and reading pages of pages of modding tips - lots of conflicting advice abounds, I decided to get in 4 NOS 2n5233's by national semiconductor. WOW what a difference. Thinner tone, not to the liking of metal merchants etc. but closer to the Ram's Head muff than any of the other muffs on your video. Thanks

  • your girlfriend has my favourite muff

  • your girlfriend has my favourite muff

  • i love the way you say big muff

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Graemey what do you think of the new muff with tone wicker? I own one just curious to see what you think of it.

  • Sorry, I have not tried one yet. G

  • @TheSWAFF the new one with the tone wicker is fucking sweet.

  • check out my big muff vs fuzz face shootout

  • they dont make stuff like they used to

  • Man, I cant remember the last time I saw that much muff in one place!

  • @FreddyFrenchToneFX redlight district

  • 66666 Views !!!! ;)

  • i do

  • whats the best pedal for sustain and as well as breakup

  • number 2 fer shure! are all the settings the same on each pedal?

  • this dude digs the muff.. ;)

  • airbag at the end

  • Nice Demo., it gives a great impression how this differents muffs sounds! great job blondegreamey! Its very interesting. I like the big muff very much and i'm very interesting about the history!

    @clickswitchh: youre comments sucks! bleh.

  • If you want to sell you'r civil war, I can pay 400$

  • sorry but i have no idea what you say in the beginning of the vid... great vid and great pedals though!

  • Thanks man. Oh yeah, by the way, your playing is fine. I like your last response, It's actually pretty funny. Cheers mate.

  • Thanks for that. Tell you what, you can have them all for free. They are wasted on me. G

  • @blondegraemey seriosly ? you need my adress ?

  • No, you need mine. Come over in the next hour and they are yours.

  • @blondegraemey dude...ignore that one dude. You play good. Nice muffs by the way

  • Haha, no worries. Glad you like the video. G

  • @clickswitchh i bet you cant play

  • @clickswitchh You sir, have declined from the rank of "Square" down to the rank of "Lame"

  • @clickswitchh daft troll got trolled by the victim of a daft trollin'

  • i bought a big muff pi, it was just noise. i was really dissapointed because it sounded nothing like the youtube reviews i had watched :(

  • was that a touch of radiohead in there?

  • I like the Big Muff Pi Version 3 the best. It is a transistor version that came after the Rams Head with a little more beef. You should get one.. I should too. ;)

  • The 73 sounds the most dynamic.

  • does john frusicante use a big muff for the solo of dani california?

  • is there a notch on the little big muffs switch?

  • What is the name on the song played in the intro?

  • big moof

  • AIRBAG!!!! :O

  • wow, so many ac30's und all these old big muffs.....do you sell some of these things? :)

  • they all sound great through these big headphones :)

  • I had the 73 & 76 big muff in the 70s. They were my first pedals i owned as a teen. Always enjoyed the tone i got out of them.

  • i think that first op-amp version sounds cool.

  • I don't mean to offend anyone, but I'd call this video a Muff Dive. Really cool. I got a double Muff and I love it.

  • haha...i bet you thought no one would catch the radiohead tease at the end didn't ya? great vid, thx, just got a big muff pi today. can't wait to try it out in front of my jcm900

  • very cool, thanks. that '73 is in amazing cosmetic shape for being so old...what do you make of the current "litle big muff"?

  • I couldn't say, I've never played a new one yet. G

  • @blondegraemey Can i buy one of those from you for about a hundred bucks?

  • Hi, sorry they are not for sale.G

  • i've heard girls love guys who can tell the differences between several vintage big muffs...

  • I hated the big muff , only because there were not too many other options back in my jamming days so I was kinda stuck with it and a fender bandmaster head thru a home made cab. I also used the lbpt-1 just to try and get some real overdrive, but it still sucked....lol( now everybody wants one)

  • @HackerGuitarist me too i had one from the 70's and it sounded horrid in a good way i bought it for 15 bucks used (big money then! ) wish i still had it lol

  • I had put a tone bypass switch in my Little Big Muff Pi pedal, but it had broke. So I have to by a new 3 way switch and some plaster or something that will hide the hole where the switch was.

  • What is the specific name for the 1992 version?

  • @BFS1234567 I think it's called "Civil War" or "Red Army" model of Big Muff. It's the same Big Muff used by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd in 1993-1994.

  • However... what I do dislike about most of these "comparisons" is that we never get to hear a "before and after" sound before the stomp button is hit, with the same amp settings, so as to get a REAL comparison!

  • I just ADORE how he pronounces that.... "Big Moof." Cracks me up every time!

  • I love that growling fuzz tone! I just cant seem to keep my bottom end as tight as you do.

  • I like the '76 version best.

  • nice bit of airbag at the end there :)

  • Very cool demo. Which one did you get first and which muff is your favorite? Whats next for your muff collection? My dad knows very little about guitars...much less pedals, but he really enjoyed your watkins copycat demo.

  • My 1st ever fuzz was a Little Big Muff. Sound wise, I like the russian one. G

  • @blondegraemey I got the russian one, it sounds great! THe only problem i have is that the battery doesn't last too long

  • like most pedals were do you step on the big muff to chnge sound?

    and connect it?

  • big muffs sound great with an EQ pedal after them, you can slightly roll the bass off and add a little mids to get awesome bbw muff tone! Where did you get RED panasonic batteries? they are blue here in the states

  • I like teh intro song. What song is it?

  • "Big Muff"

    Decidedly sexual in nature.

  • the second one slays 'em all

  • Is the Big Muff Pi USA good to be used as lead sound combined to another distortion pedal'

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not sure where else to post this, but I'm sure some tech geek can answer for me. In White Stripes songs, does Jack White play with the Big Muff on the whole time, or is this what he turns on for solos? I'm trying to get a Jack White sound, and I'm using an Epiphone SG remake, an Epiphone Valve Jr., and a Digitech RP 250. I'm more concerned with making the chorus parts sound crunchier than the solos. Do I need a new pedal, a new amp, or both?

  • @foofighter1337

he mostly uses an overdriven twin, but kicks on the

big muff sometimes, you can kind of

tell when he does, like in 'hypnotize' in the

    bridge part.

  • Comment removed

  • @foofighter1337 I've been in your position before. Look it up on google. It worked for me after awhile. Just look up "Jack White gear" or "setup" or "pedalboard"

  • @mikolene97 Yeah, I'm familiar with what gear he uses, but I'm trying to determine if that crunchy sound in tracks like "Fell in Love With a Girl" and "Hypnotize" comes mostly from the amp or from the pedals.

  • @foofighter1337 Hmmm I'll do some research for you. Gimme some time and I'll try and check out what kids of amps he has and what not.

  • My sister got a muff so I rub my fingers on my sister's muff while she is sleeping.

  • i got mine used $40 bucks. its awesome

  • Billy Corgan used a 1978 Op-Amp. so imagine a cross between the second and third one.

  • Yeah, he had a great tone......listen to Siamese Dream.....

  • the second one sounds awesome. the little big muff, not so much its either brittle or its muddy as hell. i dont see the point of it

  • the sounded one sounded greaT i think, im gonna get a muff one of these days^^

  • In 1980, my buddy played a Big Muff while I chose the DOD overdrive.

  • that 1980 big muff sounds awesome, get someone to look at the noise on that maybe (fresh soldering? i dunno, im not an electrician) and itd be awesome

  • Brings back old memories !!

    Thanks !

  • good Catherine sound on the 2nd one.

  • just so you guys know, if you want the vintage muff sound, but you don't wanna pay a crap load of money, build your own clone (BYOC) makes triange and rams head muff clones and they sound almost exactly the same for a little more than an NYC muff. You have to build it, but it's SUPER EASY and comes with a free practice kit

or you could shell out an extra $30 for a pre-built one

  • i dont understand your accent :-D but great video

  • wicked review of all the different muffs man, thanks a bunch, cheers!

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks!!! I have been looking for a decent head-to-head BM versions comparison for ages!

  • I actually got exactly the same little big muff as the one he uses the first! The one from 78.

  • This may be just me, but can anyone else hear something flanging? like a really subtle, slow flange.

  • could be the signal oscellating

  • possibly him changing the tone knob on the guitar.

  • I think that the USSR one sounds the least like a big muff, If you judge by what they're supposed to sound like, that being the rams head and triangle.

  • Cheers mate. Good post.

  • Awesome man!!!! 5 stars, I am a big fan of Big Muff PI, because that sound is great.

  • is the big muff a fuzz pedal or just distortion pedal??????

  • What's in a name? It's a fuzzy distortion.

  • ok thanks and what pedal do you recommend for me that will provide me with pure fuzzyness without the distortion that also has the option to change from bright to warm and etc..

  • I couldn't say. Sounds like you are after something quite specific so you will have to try a few different things. G

  • Im looking fort the same thing and i think the double muff is good sounding from the u tube vids.

  • yeah, which big muff is that? I remember my friend having a brand new big muff unit somewhere in 2003 and it was a totally apocalyptic fuzz pedal. you got pingy sounds insted of muted distortion when palm muting - dunno how to explain it better. he sold it shortly and doesn't remember. came in a big military-like wooden box with green army letters and it was full of hay. truly retro :)

    anyone knows?

  • Was the Russian Big Muff

  • @vazkilzan check out blackout effector's twosome. Its the most versatile fuzz around, so im sure you could milk what you want from it.

  • @vazkilzan turn your amp all the way up and use a tube screamer or an overdrive pedal with the drive turn all the way down...that should be pretty fuzzy

  • Electro-Harmonix themselves tend to describe it more as a "Distortion/Sustainer" than a Fuzz pedal. It's very much it's own thing, and I love my NYC reissue. I'd kill for a vintage Triangle or Ram's Head Muff though.

  • @vazkilzan Fuzz

  • Damn, that 1980 model was noisy.

    Great demo! (as always)

  • Well, this is hell of a collection! i'm waiting for my first muff right now (the black russian, recently discontinued) - can't wait :-)

anyway... alot of nice sounds! take care

  • At the end he should have turned them ALL on. Now that would have been the biggest Muff of all!

Also, the shoot out was not really fair because he did not move any of the knobs on the earliest "lion's head" (which I own) to show it's various tone colors.

  • Love the "Big Muff"! I bought mine brand new in 1980 and it was beat up over the years (I drove away with the Muff on the roof of a car one time and it still worked!) Long Live the Big Muff!

  • the 92 big muff sounds fantastic..

  • Wow, they're all a lot brighter and better than my NYC muff. NYC muff still kicks ass though

  • in the song abc.... to the jackson five used fuzz? what fuzz?

  • I don't know but it sound like an old Tonebender or Maestro Fuzztone. I could be wrong though...

  • my big muff sounds nothing like these, mine sounds like a Bass overdrive on guitar

  • you are probably using a reissue NYC muff. in my opinion they don't even approach the sound of vintage muffs or clones

  • yea im using the reissue NYC,it sounnds cool but it aint what i need,so i bought a russian muff

  • My Reissue one sounds like the 1979 one with the tone bypass switch on. It's supposed to sound bassy.

  • I See Muff (4:38)

  • IC (integrated circuit) muff

  • Thanks, I did actually want to know what an ic muff was - but - it was a joke...

  • i love muff

  • the little big muff with the yellow lettering sounds like monkey shit

  • My least favorite too.

  • I like his earring.

  • these sound quite noisy..for pedals that are not too high gain!!!.....hmmm...

don't see what the fuzz is about..ha ha...

  • WHATS THE SONG IN BEGINNInG

  • Im jelous of this guys gear but I dont get why everyones got such a boner over the white rams head muff, I used to take tone too seriously aswell, then i realized that whoevers hearing it 90% of the time doesnt even know what a big muff is....

  • what counts is the people who do

  • Stock Muffs sound awesome and all, but the mods you can do to these mothefuckers are just outright astounding.

  • The 79 muff sounds dark and muddy. It is not as clear as the first two in the video.

  • for me, thats a good thing! You can get more clarity out of these with a strat. I just use a les paul. I think thats why you think that the pedal sounds bad

  • 5:46 WANT

  • I like the tone from the 76' Big Muff the best.

  • Do you know where I can find the last one that you demo. You called it a Sovtek Big Muff transistor version. It looks like it says Big Muff - II on it. I can't find one anywhere that looks like that. Any advice?

  • This version of the Sovtek BM is no longer made. It would be ebay all the way if you want to find one. G

  • I think I like the IC best and the sovtek second best. Thanks for the video.

  • and nice radiohead cameo at the end

  • rams head-best distortion of all time

  • i dont really consider the Big Muff a fuzz at all,it sounds more like a Bass distortion, well thru my amp it does...

  • How come my Little Big Muff doesn't sound anywhere that sharp...especially on chords. That Ram's head is incredible. That's the sweetest distortion I've ever ever heard. It must be your amp choice also...you're playing thru an AC-30, jah? Very good job. Are there any Ram's heads left in the known universe? Even that second one you played would do me.

  • i picked up a rams head off ebay bout a year ago, it sounds soooo nice. bought it i think for 2 or 300 hundred bucks

  • I think mine sounds better than the one in the demo also

  • Yeah, Im playing through an AC30. You can pick-up Rams head's on ebay but they are costly. I bought this one in broken condition and fixed it myself. G

  • no way $300!!!!!!!

i got one for free today

    omg

  • Where do you live?

  • It's a Manchester Accent I think Northern England anyway - Your American arnt you ? ;)

  • Yes i'm american...but what I want to know where he lives so I can get some of his pedals...basically joking but, still...I WAANT THEM lol

  • Haha - I knew it - It must sound completly alien to you because usually English actors that get hollywood jobs have to loose their regional accents to get work. I wasnt American Bashing... god knows you've had enough of that the last few years. Personally I cant stand the muff's - borrowerd one before - to much noise in the signal for me - Im a Boss addict.

  • Haha, it's a Geordie accent. Like, from around Newcastle.

  • Shushhhhhhhhhhhhh, yeah that's what I meant ;) (hey It was closer then the other guy was!)

    Give us a Brun!

  • What version use Billy Corgan in Siames dreams (cherub rock etc.?

  • billy corgan used green sovtek muffs if i remember correctly

    google it ;)

  • i have a normal russian one that i modded to the green sovtek specs, and did the cream dreamer mod, exact BC tone.

  • was that expensive? sounds like something i'd want to do.

  • Billy Corgan used a vintage USA op-amp version to record Siamese Dream, not a Russian one.

  • I really like the 73' Big Muff and the Little big muff. Awesome stuff, as always!

  • Excellent demo! I like your intro song a lot, is there any way that I can get to it?

  • Sorry man, it's not available anywhere. G

  • sounds great, your a grate guitarist
