Im rolling balls right now but this shit is so inspiring man i would love to one day be able to lay down the tracks i hear in my head and make them sound great
anything is possible if you put the time to work, and some money to buy the equipment necessary.. Jakwob is a dubstep god, started in his room like many others.
At the moment i am getting into glitch and IDM styled composing. I was wondering if i use a beat production center (akai xr20) and record the drum kit, sounds, etc into my composition, could I sell and publisize the sounds in my musical piece?. Im not sure if copyright comes into equation if i record physical synths, beats , and sounds externally that I have. BTW i use Reason Record.
check out kid at @0:12. that kid has a pacifier, someone rubbing his head, and is getting a light show. AND at a Jakwob concert. you gotta know he is rolling his nutsack off.
This is one awesome vid! I have a very obscure question, just in case anyone knows... What patch is he using in the NN19? It says "Orchestral_Pad L" but that doesn't say much. Anyone? :)
@Subwarriorcrew I've tried. As he says himself a sample. I know obviously reason uses samples but I assumed from that that it was his own/got it himself.
@Subwarriorcrew Okay, I've just replicated that sound with the OrchStringsPad, just copy the dials from his one and then change his LFO wave to a backwards SawTooth ie the line up then the slope down (if you're looking from left to right like any normal person otherwise you're just odd)
Can anyone tell me what mixer he's using in his studio room? I'm trying to figure out how to make an outboard mixer work with Reason/Record, and I want to know if it's something special that he's using specifically for the software, or if theirs a way to make any mixer work with the software!
Fantastic and inspirational. Guess that answers the question "Can you produce professional tracks with Reason/Record?". What I love is Jakwob has done a great bass on the Malstrom, Dave Spoon works with the Subtractor. The NN19 makes an appearance here too. So much there, so much that I haven't yet tapped into.....

@hellisbreakingloops You are going strait to number one!!! I can't wait to buy all your 650 triple platinum albums! First thing you should buy, is an island in the shape of your head.
@danxl5 Only if the island is shaped like my skull. And opens up to reveal an evil lair/cave. Where I can reject my commercial success and compose epic lofi black metal. So yes, make that 666 triple platinum albums.
@danxl5 I wouldn't sweat it. Once I release my combinator all you need is to set the knobs to 11, run white noise through it, and then every financial market in the world will crash because of the unprecedented amount of commerce generated by the single.
@hellisbreakingloops You could also pull a Deadmau5 and just churn out track after track that are all the same? So that every other producer can not possibly have any chance of getting tracks to the club market. Then you also just need to name them things for 4chan or after 8bit video games and you are set.
@PBowyer123 There's all sorts of free tutorial videos on youtube to get you started. The ASK Video Reason Tutorial DVD is a great place to start if you want to spend a few bucks. Reason is a great program to learn because everything in it is modeled after hardware - learn how to use Reason and you won't feel lost in a studio.
@TSDREX Your opinion is garbage who the fuck are you? You're talking as if you're someone important in the music scene. Any sound created in Massive can be replicated in reason, soo what the fuck are talking about?
@marcuelcajon i am Tom who are you? im not someone importaint, im just saying Jakwob is shit, and for all dubstep producers should use another software that allows VST's, i would love you to make same bassline as Datsik on reason lmao.. Reason is great to use, but not so great for dubstep trust me ;P
@TSDREX It's actually not that hard to make a Datsik style bass in reason tbh, as long as you know what you're doing, Thor is the master of crazy bass. It's only about automation on eq's and filters.
I have reason 5 and Record i have been using reason way back with 2.5 its crazy its not easy to learn how to do you in reason that is a path you must learn all by yourself but its easy to create music in it the thing he said about his presets is real thats the power of reason you can make your own presets with routing and sound processing you see its the power of your creativity that reason opens up for you but you must learn that part on your own its the beast hands down
@t3ChN0fR3444k I've updated the description with the song titles. The beginning is "Here with Me." The drop at 0:55 is Scare the Snare. He then demos the strings from "Here with Me" and it plays out for the rest of the vid.
This is brilliantly done. Even with little interest in music production, it's still captivating to watch and a great insight for any Jakwob fan. Visually accomplished too, of course!
I can't wait to see if they're updating Record to 2.0 this May, as they normally announce updates in that month with availability in August or September. Hope they add some more powerful audio editing features, like quantising and pitch adjust to each individual track. It would turn an already great program into a must-have item!
@BeatSneaker Not to bust your bubble, but probably not. I have no inside information, but thinking about business practices and update/bug fix cycles, I can't see them releasing another update for at least another year. R/R seems to update every 18 mos. or so. Also, quantization on individual tracks...you can already do that.( I think? What do you mean?)
@btdub73 I was talking about the ability to quantise audio tracks in Record similar to Flex Time in Logic (and other apps) as well as pitch shifting audio clips and tracks, which it can't do without using Neptune. Record might be on a different update cycle to Reason, as v1.5 came out after only 11 months, so we may still see v2.0 this year. You're right about Reason though, as I'm sure we won't see Reason 6 until possibly the middle of next year.
@BeatSneaker Ahhhhh, I see what you mean...audio (not MIDI) quantization. Well, no, it for sure doesn't do that...not to be snarky, but I've always been a little wary of it. I would think that you could get a better performance instead of spending a ton of time "fixing" a performance that isn't up to snuff. I totally dig Record though, and I use it all the time...never open Reason standalone anymore.
respect.
