Wow, this videos are great... yeah, youtube should promote them and there should be chanals with several translations... I'm an Austrian and I haven't learnd most of the words you need in physics yet, because I'm only 15 years old...
hey wait, Thomson did not know the mass of the electron, he knew the mass - charge ratio. It was millikan's oil drop experiment which discovered the mass of the electron
i have watched this own video of jj thomson first on this site,,,thanks a lot youtube,,,hope to get these types of videos,,,like of e.goldstein, rutherford,,neils bohr

TO ALL PEOPLE WHO ARE READING THIS : DOSE THE ELECTRICITY OF BRAIN CAN BE HACKED VIA SOME TECHNOLOGY? Can ANY Microwaves or ELF Waves Manipulate the Electricity of the brain?
the answer is "Yes" You need to ask the right questions. 1st Find out what electricity is made of and its uses. Microwaves can carry frequences... I know I missed spelled the word, but that the least important on the subject
idk i would think if it has waves you could find a freqency and control it by certain rythme or flow of electricity current , but im only 14 lol , sounds interesting
ok can anyone answer this question for me, since I am not a typical science know it al. How can they just shoot electrons only thru any experiment, when I thought electrons are part of the atom, and atoms can not be torn apart into seperate particles? Do we have the technology now to suck away just the electrons from the atom and shoot them thru a beam like this experiment is suggesting.
Electrons orbit the atom, and can be shot out of orbit by something as simple as light (photons, the photoelectric effect). We have technology incredible enough to create anti matter in laboratories, controlling the flow of electrons isn't very hard.
Good for you. If you want something that will really get the juices flowing, try a search for ''A Universe From Nothing' by Lawrence Krauss, AAI 2009'. Its an hours worth of lecture, but utterly utterley fascinating. If you like this, you will love Lawrence's talk. Let me know if you watch it, it gave me a real buzz!
I agree, it wasn't the best idea was it. I suspect they carved it up to increase the viewing figures, given that they would have 15 titles instead of 1 for people to search for.
Your the typical teenager: it sounds interesting but, since it's something i HAVE to learn (and probably because your friends think it's stupid), you just simply come here to critic - if it can be classified as such... - and make a complete fool of yourself.
Actually, with this experiment, Thompson was able to determine the charge/mass ratio of the electron. Later, Millikan measured the electron charge with his oil dropplets experiment, and therefore the mass of the electron was determined. At least, that's what I learned. Great video anyways :)
It is VERY likely that electrons are made of a complex orangment of smaller particles and those particles are made of smaller ones and so on and so on for at least several levels.
THAT HELPED SO MUCH! THANKS!
